Obama on video campaigning for Marxist "cousin" Raila Odinga, Kenya's "Agent of Change"

Obama on video campaigning for Marxist “cousin” Raila Odinga, Kenya’s “Agent of Change”:
"When Raila Odinga lost the presidential election last week (12/27/2007) to Mwai Kibaki, he claimed the vote was rigged, whereupon his tribal followers went on murderous rampages such as in the town of Eldoret, where on New Years Day dozens of people were burned to death in a church set on fire. Throughout Kenya, hundreds of people have been politically murdered in the last few days."

This, gentle readers, is a 263-page piece of political circus that actually explicitly refutes itself on its single most key page!

UPDATE (Fri Oct 10 @ 11:25 p.m. CST): Gov. Palin's office and the McCain-Palin campaign have each put out press releases making some of the same points I've made in this post. And Gov. Palin's lawyer has issued a five-page response to the Branchflower report which notes, among other things, that "[e]very prior reported Ethics Act violation involved financial motives and financial 'potential gain, or the avoidance of a potential loss.' ... Here, there is no accusation, no finding and no facts that money or financial gain to the governor was involved in the decision to replace Monegan."

Even the Anchorage Daily News is misrepresenting the meaning of this report: I just received an email update from it in which it claims that "Today Alaska legislators found Palin did abuse her power in the 'Troopergate' controversy." That's absolutely false — the Alaska Legislature is not in session, and all that happened today was that the 12-member Legislative Council that received the Branchflower Report voted unanimously to release its first volume (the 263-page .pdf file linked above) to the public. Several more volumes and hundreds more pages prepared by Branchflower still remain confidential — suggesting that Branchflower's selective quotations in the report may well have been "cherry-picked" or taken out of context — but the governor's office has itself posted quite a few more documents pertaining to the investigation on the internet, confirming Gov. Palin's repeated statements that she has nothing to hide in this entire matter.

Barone: “The Coming Obama Thugocracy”

Well, as least someone in the MSM gets what’s actually at stake in this election:

Once upon a time, liberals prided themselves, with considerable reason, as the staunchest defenders of free speech. Union organizers in the 1930s and 1940s made the case that they should have access to employees to speak freely to them, and union leaders like George Meany and Walter Reuther were ardent defenders of the First Amendment.

Today’s liberals seem to be taking their marching orders from other quarters. Specifically, from the college and university campuses where administrators, armed with speech codes, have for years been disciplining and subjecting to sensitivity training any students who dare to utter thoughts that liberals find offensive. The campuses that used to pride themselves as zones of free expression are now the least free part of our society.

Obama supporters who found the campuses congenial and Obama himself, who has chosen to live all his adult life in university communities, seem to find it entirely natural to suppress speech that they don’t like and seem utterly oblivious to claims that this violates the letter and spirit of the First Amendment. In this campaign, we have seen the coming of the Obama thugocracy, suppressing free speech, and we may see its flourishing in the four or eight years ahead.

Most Americans have little idea how far the average academic would go to stamp out political speech they disagree with these days. If you like to think for yourself, Obama and his mob are no friends of yours, no matter what they say.

Breaking - Clintons file RICO charges against Obama for voter fraud...

http://community.marketwatch.com/groups/us-politics/topics/clintons-file-rico-suit-against

If everything rumored here is true, it looks like David Axelrod, Howard Dean, Donna Brazile, Obama himself, and possibly even Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid were all involved, together, in massive RICO violations, and thus federal fraud, if the DNC and party leadership knew what the Obama campaign and ACORN were up to and allowed it to proceed. Knowledge of federal crimes being committed makes all parties accessories to those crimes — and part of the conspiracy to defraud the public.

TOP OBAMA CAMPAIGN FINANCIER WORKING WITH STATE SPONSORS OF TERRORISM TO UNDERMINE U.S.

SOWELL: The real Obama

Associations are very different from alliances. Allies are not just people who happen to be where you are or to be doing the same things you do. You choose allies deliberately for a reason. The kind of allies you choose says something about you.

NO JUSTICE, NO PEACE? So we've had nearly 8 years of lefty assassination fantasies about George W. Bush, and Bill Ayers' bombing campaign is explained away as a consequence of him having just felt so strongly about social justice, but a few people yell things at McCain rallies and suddenly it's a sign that anger is out of control in American politics? It's nice of McCain to try to tamp that down, and James Taranto sounds a proper cautionary note -- but, please, can we also note the staggering level of hypocrisy here? (And that's before we get to the Obama campaign's thuggish tactics aimed at silencing critics.)

The Angry Left has gotten away with all sorts of beyond-the-pale behavior throughout the Bush Administration. The double standards involved -- particularly on the part of the press -- are what are feeding this anger. (Indeed, as Ann Althouse and John Leo have noted, the reporting on this very issue is dubious). So while asking for McCain supporters to chill a bit, can we also ask the press to start doing its job rather than openly shilling for a Democratic victory? Self-control is for everybody, if it's for anybody. . . .

UPDATE: Well, here's an opportunity to see how they do.

Plus, days of rage. Posted by Kate at 12:11 AM | Comments (9)

ACORN, Media & the Angry Right

We’re watching the press out-and-out lie in its reportage. We’re watching YouTube censor what may negatively impact their man. Networks will sell 1/2 chunks of airtime to the Obama campaign, but will not run an ad by his critics. Ann Althouse notes that basic accurate transcription appears to be beyond the press’ capability.

No wonder the GOP rank-and-file are edgy, and angry. They know what “free speech” is. They’ve been gritting their teeth and respecting the first amendment for the last 8 years, watching the opposition say outrageous, hateful, incite-ful things with impunity. They’ve watched and tolerated it because it is the right of every American to say what they want, and that right is paramount. The rank-and-file (for all they’re derided as “nazis”) tend to respect that.

The GOP base is watching the left declare, “free speech for me, but not for thee,” and now, they are getting pissed off.

My Li’l Bro Thom and I were discussing the strange events of the last week, with GOP crowds expressing their anger, and members of the press - who one would think appreciate the first amendment more than anyone else - calling for censure-ship. I’m not entirely sure if Mary Mitchell means “censured”, there, or “censored.” To censure is to “officially rebuke,” and to censor is to completely shut down. I suspect Mitchell - who famously wrote just last month, “Sarah Palin makes me sick. I hate that she was able to steal Barack Obama’s mojo just by showing up wearing rimless glasses and a skirt…” would like to see both.

Imagine that. A mojo so fragile it can be stolen by rimless glasses and a skirt.

Anyway, so Thom, who is still susceptible to media spin once in a while - remember, he’s center-left - was beginning to buy the “oh, no, the GOP crowds are out of control; they’re all a bunch of hot-heads calling for blood,” narrative that the press - feeling unloved - has latched on to this week, quite ignoring the fact that things are pretty ugly in the Canada elections, too, which surely has nothing to do with McCain/Palin.

I reminded him that a few random stupid idiots are no more representative of the GOP than are random idiots on the left - who broadcast the sound of gunfire when discussing the American President - representative of Democrats as a whole.

I agree with him that the GOP does not help itself when the crowds get unruly. These are pictures and soundbites the press will gobble up and spin, and the GOP - who has watched the press control the national narrative for 8 years - should know that.

But I also understand that the folks attending these McCain/Palin are finding some release after 8 years of frustration, watching the press spin any good news badly (think back to all of the times you read articles approximating the following: “Unemployment is 4.6% and the economy grew by 3% last quarter, but experts warn…” Or, “Experts expressed surprised at the good economic numbers…” Good news from Iraq has been embargoed; if the press could not report on American deaths and a gloomy outlook, they preferred not to write at all about the efforts of our troops - can you name a single Medal of Honor winner out of Iraq or Afghanistan? There have been stunning stories of real heroism coming out of these war fronts - mostly about young men and women from “heartland” America, but they’ve been all-but-ignored, rather than celebrated, because America was not supposed to feel good about any of it. And the fact that our shores have been safe for 7 years? Well, if the president had a D after his name, that might be laudable, but he doesn’t, so cares?

Now, the GOP is trying to shed some light on the clear and important connection between Barack Obama and the corrupt ACORN - whose activities are on the verge of discrediting the election in 11, or perhaps as many as 14 states - and even Thom notices that their effort is “seen mostly as ‘another right wing attempt to smear Obama.’” Because you know, when the truth is uncomfortable, it becomes a “smear.”

Well, of course it is being “seen as a smear” by the press and the Democrats. Just like protesters carrying pictures of a beheaded Dubya, or Keith Olbermann’s screaming are seen as acceptable expressions of free speech (which they are) while GOP anger is seen as “scary” and “inciteful” - which it is not.

Obama himself admits his links to ACORN:

“Even before I was an elected official, when I ran Project Vote voter registration drives in Illinois, Acorn was smack dab in the middle of it, and we appreciate your work.”

The ACORN disgrace is not being “covered” right now. It’s being “spun.” The press - whose charge it is to report on events without prejudice - cannot bring itself to seriously look at the fact that ACORN has utterly corrupted voter registration in some states - in Pennsylvania, a former State Supreme Court Justice says she is “not confident we can get a fair election” in the state come November.”

I don’t know about you, but I find that pretty chilling. There is some indication that we’ve come to an end of our long and admirable history of peaceful transitions, decided by the electorate of the nation. What is happening, state-by-state in this election (and has been happening more and more each election cycle) is the gradual dissolution that right which we hold most dear: our right to self-determination. And it is happening, “from the inside,” as we see in Ohio, which - as I write this - has just received permission from the sixth circuit court of appeals to make voter fraud easier, instead of more difficult. There goes Ohio.

The press cannot bring itself to “call for censure” of Jennifer Brunner, the Secretary of State of Ohio who openly tried to disqualify many GOP absentee ballots on shifty grounds, and apparently enables voter fraud.

Judge George C. Smith of the U.S. District Court in Columbus said, “It is hard to imagine a public interest more compelling than safeguarding the legitimacy of the election of the president of the United States.”

Brunner, btw, is being advised by ACORN. Mary Mitchell is not calling for her “censure.”

Depend on it, if Brunner were a Republican, and if she were trying to insist on voter identification, and if a court were upholding her, you would know her name; the press would be calling for her head. Somehow, in the twisted logic of this diabolically disoriented age, asking people to prove their identity before they vote is a “suppressive” and “intimidating” thing.

The “scary” crowds at those GOP rallies are watching the fully untrustworthy press ignore or down-play activities that can shake the very foundation of our democratic freedoms; if the press is “afraid,” they should think about why the crowds are angry. As Rick Moran suggests, they should think about their culpability in the increasing ugliness we’re seeing on both sides. They should - perhaps - assuage the concerns of the right just a little, just a tad, by acting like real journalists instead of advocates and condemning thuggish electoral behavior, rather than ho-humming it.

But perhaps the press is too far gone in their hunger for the November Trifecta: the White House, the Congress, and (quickly) the SCOTUS all in the hands of the left. Not in the hands of normal, rational Democrats, mind you; in the hands of the speech-suppressing, infanticide-supporting, tax-raising, government-growing, no-drilling, no nuclear power far left, who - apparently - are disinterested in creating all those new jobs.

The GOP rank-and-file is watching the privileged and elite, rather comfortable and oh-so-sophisticated, “what is an outlet shop?” press - which does not even try to hide its disdain for middle America - do everything it can to advance an agenda that half the country is convinced will not serve it. They’re watching this same press - purportedly filled with smart, open-minded people - dismiss the reasoned reservations of half the nation over a spectacularly untried and ill-defined man of dubious association as either “ignorant” or “racist.”

The crowds know they are neither “ignorant” or “racist.” They know that you can tell a lot about a man by looking at his friends. They also know that the things they dislike in Barack Obama are the very things they disliked about the caucasian Al Gore and John Kerry: the philosophy of government solutions over marketplace, the elitist disdain for their own values, and the sense that too much power consolidated in one party and enabled by the complicit press is simply bad for the country.

The press tried to steamroller the American public into voting their man both in 2000, and again in 2004, but they were hobbled by Democrat candidates who were stiff and unlikeable. They finally have a candidate who is likable and they can’t believe that these stubborn people on the right are not falling in line and falling in love - as though the right might actually - gasp - have been voting its principles all this time.

But they’re determined to win, and so yes, they’re sacrificing their credibility to do so, because they know that if they get the November Trifecta, credibility won’t matter any more:

…with an Obama victory and a Democrat sweep, the press will - within a year or so - once again be “the only game in town.” And with no reason to do so, they will not even pay the barest lip-service to opposition opinion. Hell, they barely do, now. They will become the monolithic monopoly which acts as the trumpet for the Glorious Government of the People’s Republic of America - or, if you like, Pravda West.

Expect to see little actual reportage, but a lot of spin, about ACORN in the coming weeks. They’ll “spin” rather than report other stories as well. There is no way that - coming this close - the press is going is going to let this election slip through its fingers.

Quite honestly, I don’t know if either of these men is up to the challenges facing the next occupant of the White House. That’s enough doubt to carry going into this election. We should not have to also worry about whether the vote count in each state has been corrupted.

Meanwhile, AJ is looking at questions connected to Obama and Rezko that clearly won’t be answered before the election, and which the press will ignore, while they publish these bizarre polls. More here on Rezko and how he could hurt Obama if the press cared enough.

McCain on Fannie 2006

Quite a letter. Wonder what might have happened if McCain and the other GOP senators who signed this letter urging immediate action re Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac and hoping to formulate a policy to avoid economic catastrophe, had been worked with?

Sen. John McCain’s 2006 demand for regulatory action on Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac could have prevented current financial crisis, as HUMAN EVENTS learned from the letter shown in full text below.

McCain’s letter — signed by nineteen other senators — said that it was “…vitally important that Congress take the necessary steps to ensure that [Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac]…operate in a safe and sound manner.[and]..More importantly, Congress must ensure that the American taxpayer is protected in the event that either…should fail.”

Sen. Obama did not sign the letter, nor did any other Democrat.

I also believe McCain will win handily. Here are my reasons:

1) “Polls” that show Obama ahead tell a different story when internals are studied.

2) Hillary and Bill don’t want Obama to win, since she wants to run again in 2012

3) “Hussein” being Obama’s middle name is still news to most people.

4) A picture of Obama dressed as a Muslim (there are at least three) is still worth 1000 words (3000 in this case). Man your email station! Post bills!

5) The PUMAs who know the hows and whys of Hillary getting cheated, will vote Palin, and will pull others. Check out http://www.hillaryclintonforum.net/discussion/showthread.php?t=33711&page=3 and http://democrats-against-obama.org

6) “Bitter ... [Gun Clingers]”, will vote McCain

7) The Palins ARE America and the conservative base. America and the conservative base will vote accordingly.

8) The NRA has “8 figures” of ads to unload in “swing” states

9) At one point, Obama was only 5 points up in New York! New York!

10) The Democrats were talking about Democratic consultants freaking out over Obama mis-managing his campaign before they settled into poll alteration.

11) The Enemedia is already spreading the meme that if Obama loses, it “is racism”. They see the tea leaves ...

12) The Media was calling the election for Kerry ELECTION MORNING in 2004, and Carter and Reagan polled evenly on election day! Also, http://www.InTrade.com had Kerry as an 80/20 favorite on election morning 2004. SOMEONE is trying to buffalo us!

13) McCain has only started to play the Ayers and ACORN cards. McCain has not yet played the Jeremiah Wright, Tony Rezko, Odinga, ... more at http://www.barackbook.com

14) Plenty of white Democratic voters are unimpressed with Obama, and will not vote for him. Democrats can’t energize their base!

15) Obama has only 60% of the Jewish vote, compared to the 75% Kerry got.

16) The Christian base that re-elected Bush in 2004, knows Sarah is more than a Sunday Christian, and is praying for her.

17) McCain opened 50 offices in California. It’s in play! It should be the bluest of the blue, and it is not.

18) Google “Bradley Effect”. Obama is getting poll votes he’ll never get on election day.

19) Operation Chaos resulted in an overlarge quantity of Democrat registrations that will never ever vote Democratic.

20) Polls are meant by the liberal media, to SHAPE public opinion, not report it.

Please let me know if I missed anything, or if something seems egregiously wrong.

The aforementioned is a list of reasons why the “polls” are not giving the whole story, and McCain is coasting to an easy win.

McCain also sees this easy win, which is I also a reason why McCain is being so gentle with Obama; far gentler than he was during the primaries, when he was an under-dog.

My theory given the assumption McCain knows he’s going to win, is that McCain is being gentle NOT because he’s afraid of looking like a racist, or because he is a pansy, he’s just winning, and doesn’t need to hit that hard, and is running out the clock.

He still has a country to lead after this election. Black people also think that Obama is the greatest thing ever because he speaks well, and went to Harvard Law, thus deserves to be President. The fact they’re being lied to right now with the lie that Obama is “ahead in the polls”, means they will take it particularly hard when Obama does lose.

I suspect McCain wants to ease that pain, by not calling Obama the unqualified, baby-murdering, socialist, Odinga campaigning, flake, hack that Obama is. McCain is looking ahead to being the President of, to borrow a quote from the Chinese made movie “Hero”, “our land”.

Despite the glam, black people over 30 are, in the out-of-context words of Chris Rock, “tired, tired, tired” of their gansta-rap, hip-hop culture. Black people want to think they’ve “arrived”, and they want the sign of that “arrival” to be the election of “President Obama”. They want to know their stock and culture can produce an American president. It is unfortunately, an asinine expectation, since Obama neither spent formative years here, nor visited Christian churches early in his life. Thus, also, unfortunately, for us and them, they have not produced a man of Presidential quality for 2008.

For the record, the fact that the Protestant/White church culture system here has produced so few leaders like Sarah Palin, is also pathetic. We’re not reading the Bible correctly, collectively.

For the record, Thomas Sowell, Larry Elder, Walter Williams, and Clarence Thomas would make excellent presidents.

I FIND THIS EMAIL FROM READER DONALD GATELY DEPRESSING. Click "read more" to read it.

Gately writes:

I consider myself a libertarian/conservative. Like many people of that bent, I was uncomfortable with Bush when he was nominated. But Al Gore's increasingly-erratic behavior during the 2000 election made me hope Bush won.

Once Bush won, and it became clear that the Florida democrats were trying to steal the election, I became something of a Bush loyalist. Throughout his first term, I took note of all the really horrible things that were said about him, saw that a large portion of the left would rather see Bush fail than see America succeed, and was alarmed by the complicity (and often, participation) of the MSM and mainstream Hollywood. It wasn't far into his second term that I succumbed to Bush Fatigue, due to his inability to make the case for his foreign policy to the American people, and his inability to find the veto pen. He has truly been a terrible steward of the Republican brand, and because of this, the Conservative and libertarian causes are suffering.

I'm no fan of McCain , but as I dislike Obama (and love Palin), I'll be pulling the lever for McCain in November.

This is surely small of me, but if Obama wins, I plan on giving him as much of a chance as the Democrats gave George Bush. I will gleefully forward every paranoid anti-Obama rumor that I see, along with YouTube footage of his verbal missteps. I will laugh and email heinous anti-Obama photoshop jobs, and maybe even learn photoshop myself to create some. I'll buy anti-Obama books, and maybe even a "Not My President" t-shirt. I'm sure that the mainstream bookstores won't carry them, but I'll be on the lookout for anti-Obama calendars and stuff like that. I will not wish America harm, and if the country is hurt (economically, militarily, or diplomatically) I will truly mourn. But I will also take some solace that it occurred under Obama's watch, and will find every reason to blame him personally and fan the flames.

Obama's thuggish behavior thus far in this election cycle - squashing free speech, declaring any criticism of his policies to be "racist" (a word that happily carries little weight with sensible people these days), associating with the likes of Ayers, Wright, and ACORN - suggests that I won't have to scrape for reasons to really viscerally dislike Obama and his administration. And even if he wins, his campaign's "get out the vote fraud" activities are enough to provide people like me with a large degree of "plausible deniability" as to whether he is actually legitimately the president.

I've seen a President that I am generally-inclined to like get crapped on for eight years, and I've seen McCain and Palin (honorable people both, despite policy differences I may have with them) get crapped on through this election season. If the Democrats think that a President Obama is going to get some sort of honeymoon from the folks who didn't vote for him, as a wise man once said: heh.

I understand where he's coming from, but . . . . Well, it makes me sad to think that this is where we are. Personally, if Obama's elected I intend to give him a chance and weigh him on his actions, not his party. But I agree that he's not likely to get much of a honeymoon -- except from the press, which has been giving him one for about a year already.

UPDATE: Reader Ben Ellington emails:

I'm sad with you, but Mr. Gately's doing nothing more than describing the new rules of engagement as far as politics are concerned. If there was anything close to an honest and unbiased media in this country, those attacks just wouldn't work. But, the mainstream media is so far to the left that it fuels talk radio on the right, and their respective audiences just aren't interested in listening to one another any more.

I'm kind of looking forward to seeing how Obama takes it.

I'm guessing badly, in the event. And another reader emails: "Much though I dislike continuing a highly charged partisan atmosphere, Donald has it right in this case. Democrats cannot and should not expect Obama to receive any sort of honeymoon from McCain voters this cycle based on their behavior, and as I've often heard you say, don't reward behavior that you don't want to encourage." Yes, the Angry Left schtick seems to have worked for the Dems, which suggests that if the GOP finds itself out of power it will emulate it.

LEFTY ASSASSINATION FANTASIES: Various people, oddly, deny that such existed. Try Death of a President by Gabriel Range, or Nicholson Baker's novel, Checkpoint, just to start.

Similar Obama assassination fantasies, should they appear, won't get this kid-glove treatment from Big Media, I suspect. "It is not the first time a novelist has chosen fiction to express their point of view about American society or politics. Upton Sinclair did it. So did John Steinbeck. Nick Baker does it with more nerve and fewer pages."

UPDATE: Here's Salon, in 2003, on a play entitled I'm Going to Kill the President, "one of the most amusing plays currently running in New York . . . a madcap farce about terrorism and apathy in John Ashcroft's America whose performance may or may not be a federal offense."

ANOTHER UPDATE: "Snipers Wanted."

Insane Rage? Look in the Mirror

You have to hand it to the mainstream media: they are utterly shameless in their effort to hand this year's election to Barack Obama. The latest MSM theme is "Republican rage." Supposedly, Republicans have become dangerously angry; the evidence is mostly that at McCain/Palin rallies, Barack Obama is sometimes booed!

Wow. How deranged can you get? Of course, John McCain gets booed at Obama rallies, too. But that's different: McCain deserves to be booed. When Republicans boo the reporters' beloved Barack, that's an entirely different phenomenon.

The reporters' favorite example of Republican Rage happened right here in Minnesota, at a McCain rally on Friday. We wrote about it here. My friend and radio partner Chad Doughty was there and posted this report. You can see for yourself the pitiful examples of "rage" that reporters tried to promote from molehill to mountain here.

For those who have observed the lunacy that has gripped the Democratic Party and liberals generally over the last seven years, the idea that we are now witnessing "Republican rage" is laughable. Michelle Malkin does a definitive job of reminding us what hate, rage and lunacy really look like. Rage has been the public face of liberalism for the last seven years.

UPDATE: Now crazed Obama supporters are throwing Molotov cocktails. Do you suppose stooges like Frank Rich and Paul Krugman will take this as a sign that Democrats are angry? No, I don't think so either.

FURTHER UPDATE: Glenn Reynolds has more examples of liberal rage.

As described by the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia. If you’re still confused about what happened, it’s a good primer. Look for the chart and the narrative as it follows the mortgage from Mr. and Mrs. Jones to their local bank, and their local bank to an investment bank and upward. And what happened.  The chart is a keeper.

Some commenters justly note that the presntation leaves out the crucial role of Fannie and Freddy in amplifying the disaster. Maybe I can find material that will complement the shortcomings of this primer. But even as is it does show the interrelatedness of the financial world and illustrate how pursuing an apparent social good like “affordable housing” can really lead to a nightmare...Read bullet | (94) Comments

"Great post; great link. It’s about to be forwarded to a bunch of folks I know.Catastrophic failures never have a single cause; they are the result of multiple errors, each of which in isolation would not be fatal."

Stanford recently had an ad-hoc panel with finance and law school faculty . Here’s the link:

http://www.gsb.stanford.edu/news/headlines/teach-inSept.html

Two interesting observations:

Jim Van Horne, one of the greatest finance professors of his generation, pointed out there have been 16 recessions in the past 200 years, and all of them were preceded by an asset price bubble. He pointed out that this is not the worst bubble, but it is a bad one. But this is the greatest amount of government intervention since the 1930s.

We vacationed on Chingoteague Island, VA this year. It’s a tiny, sleepy little place whose greatest appeal is its off-the-beaten-path nature. On a tour of the bay in a crabbing boat, we saw a huge new condo complex of hundreds of units, complete with at least 80 immaculate, new yacht-size boat slips. All the condos appear to be empty, there’s not a boat in sight in the entire private marina. For the asking price of one of the condos, you could buy almost any house on the island. Somebody is holding that bag, for sure. I’m hoping it’s not going to be us, John Q. Taxpayer. Reminds me of the dot.com crash.

The Middle Finger…

The middle finger is the first refuge of the 14 year old.

Or the maturity-challenged perpetual adolescents.

But remember, these are the people who thought spelling out the world F-U-C-K at Woodstock was, I don’t know…daring and intellectually liberating, or something.

They’re still adolescents trying to demonstrate their cool. It’s sad. Pathetic. Unsurprising.

Usual, actually. Just like all this stuff.

But as media is controlled by these children, well, they’ll excuse anything but being “uncool.”

Intolerant. Un-inclusive. Projecting. And they’ll never grow up.

These are not the liberals I grew up with. The liberals I grew up with respected the opinions of others. They welcomed dissent. They believed utterly in the Bill of Rights, particularly the first amendment; free-speech for everyone.

No, Obama, these are not the liberals I knew.

Obama as Evita!

I have been waiting for someone to put Obama to this music from Evita - I frankly thought it would have been done during his Now I Have Foreign Policy Experience World Tour (but perhaps the ‘rainbow tour’ number might have worked better?) but I’m happy to see it now, thanks to the PUMAS, who are not happy, and still not ‘coming around’ to Obama. It works beautifully. H/T

My only quibble - the use of the awful, uncomfortable-sounding Madonna, from the awful, uncomfortable film. Patti Lupone’s shrill devilry from the original broadway recording would have suited mmmwha, muy bien!

Speaking of PUMAS, has anyone else noticed that President & Sen. Clinton are incredibly, unnaturally quiet right now? This suggests two things to me - either they’ve been told by the Obama Democrat Party that if they’re not going to go out and campaign with some vigor for him they may as well stand down, or…they’ve got a little bomb to throw his way and they want to be as far away from the electoral carnage as possible. Either scenario entertains.

Palin Motorcade Stops at Farmers' Market in Marietta Before Heading to St. Clairsville

OPEN LETTER to SEN. JOHN MCCAIN!! From your frustrated supporters

BULLET... POINTS

...

· After winning his U.S. Senate seat, Obama stated that he would not run for President, citing lack of experience and the need to begin running the moment he had just become a Senator. He has precisely 143 days of work experience as a U.S. Senator under his belt and now presumes to be prepared to be President of the United States and Commander in Chief. Since when do we elect neophytes for President?

· Obama has never remained in any single job or position for any length of time to actually make a contribution. Where do his convictions lie: With those he is slated to serve, or with his own personal ambitions?

· Obama has no history of being a so-called “uniter”. His voting record reveals a pattern of digging in or not voting. He does not find common ground in order to gain consensus, unify, and get legislation passed. With no track record of doing so, how does he plan to unite this great country and a highly polarized Washington?

· Obama has not sponsored a single piece of legislation during his term as a U.S. Senator. Why should this man be President if he hasn’t even made a mark as a U.S. Senator?

· Obama has changed his position on numerous serious issues, including abortion, gun control, Iraq troop withdrawal, campaign financing, taxes, and FISA while also embracing Bush’s faith based initiatives. Why should anyone trust what he says if he changes his mind so often on substantive issues?

· Obama was the only Senator to vote “yes” on a bill that would allow babies born alive due to failed abortions to be left to die. And he did so three times (state and federal votes combined). Even passionately pro-choice Senators voted “no” on this bill. Why would anyone in their right mind condone such barbaric behavior as infanticide?

· Obama’s word cannot be trusted. In addition to his flip-flopping on issues, he has a proven propensity to go back on his word or blatantly lie. In 1996 he went back on his word to Alice Palmer. In 2004, he went back on his word to the American people that he would not run for President, by immediately running for President. If someone proves their willingness to go back on their word, how can you trust them regarding anything they say, particularly when there is so little evidence of achievement to go on and all we have is their word?

· Obama also has a history of affiliating himself with questionable characters, including convicted felons and terrorists. Once exposed, he either claims innocence or minimizes these relationships. He publicly stated he was unaware of Wright’s hateful rants, despite having embraced Wright as a father figure while sitting in the pews of his church for 20 years. While trying to prove to the American public that he was Christian (a point which is neither here nor there), Obama stated his weekly devotion to attend Sunday church services. Once Wright became a controversial issue, Obama started to back peddle regarding how often he went to church services. So which is it? Every week or rarely? And what of someone who takes on as a father figure a man who honors Farrakhan with a Lifetime Achievement Award? Surely there are countless great men and women in the black community worthy of such an honor. Is not the selection of Farrakhan a telling and important piece of information?

· When asked about his relationship with Rashid Khalidi, Obama brushed it off as one simply based on the coincidence of them both teaching at Columbia and having children who attend the same school, when in truth, he and Khalidi have scratched each others backs in mutually beneficial ways over the years. How can you trust someone who consciously minimizes a relationship with a former terrorist who was affiliated with the PLO and what do you make of someone having such associations?

· Obama claimed innocence about Tony Rezko while receiving large sums of money to support his campaigns and became entangled with him personally over his home and land purchase. Why should you put stock in Obama’s claims to care about Americans when he ignored so many impoverished families living in sub-standard housing in his Illinois congressional district and, to add insult to injury, was in the pocket of the slumlord of those building?

· Obama has a history of developing relationships with individuals who express through their words and actions profoundly anti-American sentiments, including Bill Ayers, a terrorist who built bombs that killed fellow Americans and who, to this day, remains unrepentant. Why should anyone have a shot at becoming the President who has affiliated himself with the likes of Bill Ayers?

· Obama routinely expresses a confused understanding of history, including his own personal history, noting that he is the product of the march on Selma, despite the fact that he was born four years prior to the march. Why would you accept a candidate who is so willing to distort facts and manipulate public perception in this way?

· Obama appears to feel he is above the fray and undeserving of scrutiny, despite applying for the job of the highest office in the country. He routinely scolds the press when they ask him a question or scolds his opponent if he feels at all attacked. How in the world will this man handle the very real and dangerous threats that exist in the world if he appears to lack the fortitude to withstand media scrutiny and attacks made by his opponent during the campaign?

· Obama claims a desire to reach as many people as possible, yet declines invitations from the McCain campaign for additional debates. Since the best way to reach the most people is on national television, why support a candidate who prefers to minimize such exposure? In addition, given his claims about energy use and energy policy, why support a candidate who prefers to jet around the country consuming enormous amounts of fuel, when he could sign up for more debates, use less fuel, and reach more people?

· Obama speaks of equal pay for equal work, yet pays his female staffers 83 cents on the dollar as compared to male staffers. In addition, among his top 5 most highly paid aids, only 1 is a woman. Among his top 20, only 7 are women. Why support a candidate who talks the talk, but appears not to walk the walk?
There is mounting evidence of voter fraud and intimidation in all caucus states during the primaries that benefited Obama’s campaign.

Is it acceptable to elect to the office of President of the United States a man who quite likely stole the election within his own, co-opting party?

· Obama is willing to sit down with leaders of enemy nations. In these dangerous times, can we afford to have an inexperienced President with no international experience and with a stated willingness to sit down with our enemies without precondition? Do you grasp the implications of what could happen with just one misstep, one misjudgment, one naïve, boneheaded choice?

Palin Attacks Obama’s ‘Appalling’ Refusal to Defend Babies Who Survive Abortion

Palin Stays on the Offensive at Huge Va. Rally

Candy and Sarah : Inspiration at Wilmington, Ohio

RACISM, RACISM, RACISM!

Throughout this campaign, we have heard the steady cries of racism ... people say that the only reason the most liberal Senator ever to run for president – a leftist Senator with a penchant for Marxist ideology – could possibly lose this election is because he is black and people are racist. As we get closer to the election, these stories have exploded into the media.

Let's go down the list of the few we got just over the weekend!

We have foreign leaders (technically a former leader) like Fidel Castro saying that the only reason million of people will not vote for Barack Obama is because of "profound racism in the United States."

In South Carolina, we have vandals spray painting "Republican means slavery" on the door of the GOP campaign headquarters. Because, to the mind of an ignorant voter with a racial chip on his shoulder, being a Republican automatically makes you a racist because you don't want Barack Obama to be president.

Please remember the idiot Whoopi Goldberg when McCain appeared on The View. She asked McCain if he were elected would she become a slave again.

Here's Time Magazine proclaiming that the John McCain and Sarah Palin are using Obama's race to make him appear "anti-American." It couldn't possibly have anything to do with his view of this country, could it?

Then we have Frank Rich in the New York Times over the weekend. Frank Rich says, "From the start, there have always been two separate but equal questions about race in this election. Is there still enough racism in America to prevent a black man from being elected president no matter what? And, will Republicans play the race card? The jury is out on the first question until Nov. 4. But we now have the unambiguous answer to the second: Yes." So there you have it. Not surprising that The New York Times publishes a column proclaiming that it is the Republicans who are playing the race card, and if Obama loses, it is because Republicans have stirred the racist pot.

Remember also other charges of racism in this campaign:
The use of the word "skinny" in referring to Obama is racist.
Using the words "community organizer" is racist.
Saying Obama – an ultra-leftist – doesn't see America the same way a conservative would is racist.
Using his middle name is racist.

Just remember my friends: This is only the beginning. When Obama becomes our (czar) President any utterance of disapproval with any proposal he floats before the congress will, of course, be racist. It is going to be a fun four years.

ACORN Vote Fraud Witness in Ohio from Fox News

Voter registration fraud under investigation (Indiana)

They don’t get them all to vote. You see it works like this: the polls close and they start counting. They come up with an estimate of how much they are short by, then they “FIND” an extra box of Ballots (now not identified because they are out of their envelopes or what ever) that a few trusted people fill out. They are “Found” 12 hrs or what ever after the polls close, and then the dims start screaming about counting every vote, only the “Found” ones are all fradulent, but because of secret ballots, you can not tell that.

Thats how its done, thats how they did it in Washington State when Gergoire stole the election. 5 People went to prison for it, but Gregoire STILL got the office. Its so frikkin wrong. Mail in Voting is a FRAUD from start to finish.

Rush In a Hurry - October 13, 2008

Obama cites the figure of raising taxes on businesses making over $250,000. He figures voters who'll never make near that will think he's going to stick it to the rich. People ask if he's talking gross or net. Someone needs to ask Obama these questions! He's just thrown out this number. (Rush 24/7 Members: Listen Here)
» U.S. Census Bureau: Statistics About Business Size (including Small Business)
» Patterico's Pontifications: Obama's Tax Plan and Small Businesses

Pearl of Wisdom: "This 250 grand number is moot, because Obama voted twice in the 2009 budget resolution to raise taxes on anybody making $42,000 a year or more."

Barack Obama's tax "cuts" and "credits" are just a disguise for the New Deal Three.

Democrats used Mark Foley's page chats to claim a "culture of corruption" and win the House in 2006. Now it's been exposed that the Democrat who replaced Foley, Rep. Tim Mahoney (D-FL) paid $121,000 in hush money to his mistress, and gave her a sweetheart job for two years to keep her quiet. (Rush 24/7 Members: Listen Here)
» ABC: Democrat Congressman's $121,000 Payoff to Alleged Mistress

The race is tightening. Rush explains where we are in the campaign with three weeks left. McCain surged before, when he picked Sarah Palin (meaning when he went conservative) and he can surge again if he fights. (Rush 24/7 Members: Listen Here)

Pearl of Wisdom: "Senator McCain's original supporters like Bill Kristol ought to be happy with McCain's campaign. They wanted somebody nice not negative. They thought conservatism was old and needed redefining. Now that their strategy is tanking just as all of us outside the Beltway predicted, these moderate Republicans are calling on McCain to fire his campaign!" (Rush 24/7 Members: Listen Here)
» Bill Kristol in the New York Times: McCain Should Fire His Campaign

Liberals, who have spent eight years stoking hate for Bush and Republicans, wring their hands about one or two unidentified people (who could be Obama plants!) shouting at McCain rallies. Rush played some examples of hate -- real, liberal hate.

Obama says today that he never heard of the voter fraud organization ACORN, but we have audio of The Messiah in 2007 telling ACORN, "[W]e're going to be calling all of you in to help us shape the agenda ... so that you have input into the agenda for the next presidency of the United States of America." (Rush 24/7 Members: Listen Here)

Pearl of Wisdom: "You need profit to hire people, Obama, not government! A tax cut based on hiring people doesn't cover the cost. I don't even think Obama cares or even knows this. He's a socialist. He simply cannot bring himself to leave businesses alone."

On The Comments And Other Matters

Evening Update: Today our little munchkin, henceforth known as Toddler...

I am extremely busy this week and will attend to matters as I can, but I won't neglect the real commenters. I can tell who the real commenters are and who the Obama ARMY of ONE commenters are by IPs. I will pull out some of the real comments and questions to comment on in a post later.

On the debate, the best summary I read was Betsy Newmark's:
I'm with Alex Castellanos on CNN who said that we just learned that McCain wants to buy everyone a house and Obama wants to provide everyone health care. And we're a country that's broke.

We're in deep trouble.
Yes, well, the economic beatings will continue until the American population beats some sense into Congress. The president has little to do with it; Congress is the key. Congress doesn't want to deal with the real problems, so should we really be surprised that two senators are BSing us?

In the meantime, a growing number of state governments want the federal government to step in and bail THEM out. CA has already contacted the feds, and Massachusetts had to withdraw another bond offering and is next in line. New Hampshire's got a problem.... Wait until NJ encounters what is left of its tax base.

My hunch is that this is the end of big-spending state governments too, and the next step up the ladder of destruction of big-spending governments (conservative and liberal). If they have to turn to banks for loans, the effective subsidy offered via tax exemptions is gone and borrowing will be much more costly.

Think about this - with the ability of state governments to borrow impaired, and the ability of local governments to borrow impaired, what ability does Congress have to pass all these federal initiatives that require local matching efforts?

See, this is what our teeny-bopper ARMY of ONE, most the press, and our presidential candidates don't grasp - the game-changer is here, the game-changer is reality, and it doesn't matter who you elect - abruptly financial gravity has returned and will constrain all players. The rhetoric no longer matters.

It is for this reason that I think this recession will be worse than CR thinks it will be. I agree with him on a lot, but normally government spending (especially state and local) grows significantly as a proportion of GDP during downturns. This time the downturn coincides with the demographic draw-down of state resources (pensions and retiree medical benefits) and a credit crunch resulting from a bubble.

The Face Of Reality

I know that all this whatever seems excessive to many people, but this article on Iceland's situation explains why we need a whole lot of whatever:
This WaPo article gives more background and context, and explains some of the implications:
US exchanges are closed today (oops, no, they're not), but the European exchanges have so far stabilized a bit. The UK is buying into some of their largest banks to support them, and the Bank of England and the European Central Bank are going to offer banks unlimited funding in dollars.

This is genuine global crisis, with the shortage of dollars playing the part that the shortage of gold did in the run-up to the Great Depression.
