Instead of reading Business Weak and the so-called journalist shilling for the left, maybe he ought to read the commentary of a Harvard economist...who knows more than Mssr. Pressman.
Total BS. He totally ignores the changes in 1995. The Burning Down the House video (click here) blows this out of the water. Pay special attention at the 1:20 mark where the video hits the CRA stuff.

This is an email sent by a community organizer in 1993 regading NCNB and red lining. I lived in Charlotte during this time and there was a good bit of attention being focused on NCNB and their supposed red lining.
The regulation grew to monstrous proportions during the Clinton administration, obsessed as it was with multiculturalism. Amendments to the CRA in the mid-1990s dramatically raised the amount of home loans to otherwise unqualified low-income borrowers.
The revisions also allowed for the first time the securitization of CRA-regulated loans containing subprime mortgages. The changes came as radical housing rights groups led by ACORN lobbied for such loans.

Also Penny Pritzer, Obamas Campaign Finance chair, pioneered securitization of loans in her failed bank.
Tell your liberal buddy to shove THIS down his own throat.
Then tell him that the original CRA of 1977 was probably a pretty good thing. But in 1995, provisions signed into law by Clinton enforced lending quotas by banks to high risk borrowers...and that was the beginning of the end that we're all dealing with currently.
Your liberal buddy's head will probably explode when he reads the notes (linked above). They don't like hearing it.
There are also some good notes that are Clinton specific linked at http://www.rc4systems.net... up at the top of the page.

It's plain that the current financial crisis is worsening in spite of--or perhaps because of--the Treasury rescue plan.
The strains in financial markets are becoming more, rather than less, severe in spite of the nuclear option of a $700 billion package: Interbank spreads are widening and are at a level never seen before; credit spreads are widening to new peaks; short-term Treasury yields are going back to near-zero levels as there is flight to safety; credit default swap (CDS) spreads for financial institutions are rising to extreme levels as the ban on shorting of financial stock has moved the pressures on financial firms to the CDS market; and stock markets around the world have reacted very negatively to this rescue package...
Read it all, dammit.

You and me both. I've been telling my friends that in November, I'm voting for Sarah, not for McCain. He seems to want to hand the election to Obama, and I can't understand it.
The problem of Barack Obamas relationship with Bill Ayers will not go away. Ayers and his wife, Bernardine Dohrn were terrorists for the notorious Weather Underground during the turbulent 1960s, turning fugitive when a bomb designed to kill army officers in New Jersey accidentally exploded in a New York townhouse. Prior to that, Ayers and his cohorts succeeded in bombing the Pentagon.
This isnt just about mortgages
Its about all kinds of securitized debt, packaged and sold to the highest bidder, who had no idea what secured that debt EXCEPT the implict guarantee of US Government backing
So now the loans are being called and Uncle Sam is caught with His shorts down
The foreign investors finally figured out we were wildly borrowing their money to pay them back on their debts, and have said NO MORE
The Ponzi scheme is unraveling
and US Congressional heroes like Frank Schumer Dodd who are trying to save Main Street are the same lying weasel arsonists who, over the past 2 decades, gave their well-connected cronies matches and gasoline to set the fire

As Ace puts it, "More of this. More of this. Nothing but this for the next 32 days. The election hangs on this single issue. The public believes Republicans caused this disaster, and we'll lose based on that misperception. The Democrats actually caused it -- but Republicans, beginning at the top off the ticket, are inexplicably shy about saying so. MORE OF THIS. MORE OF THIS."

Why McCain is wimping out on Fannie Mae and the CRA. The Islamist elephant in the room no politicians will admit
How can Hussein promise 95% of the people tax reduction when only 70% pay tax?Facts, and truth, don't matter to Democrats and the media, except in the service of power.
To this crowd, tax cuts to the rich are expenditures, expenditures to the poor are tax cuts, government spending programs are investments, and private investments are lost revenue.
Cooperating with warmongering dictators is being peaceful, standing up to them is being belligerent. Trapping kids in disfunctional schools is supporting education, and giving them money for better private schooling is undermining education. Treating minorities differently is equality, treating everyone the same is bigotry. Wishing success for the troops is imperialistic, wishing them failure is patriotic.
Sorry for ranting. I could fill a page with these. Modern Democrats positions aren't just unfactual, they are anti-factual.

As much as we like to think otherwise, human behavior is fairly predictable, and sometimes ironically so. Muslims reacting to depictions of violence within the Muslim world (during the

This time around, it's been Obama supporters responding to my SFGate column on Palin Derangement Syndrome with, well, Palin Derangement Syndrome.
The avalanche of e-mails I received (not to mention the 913 comments at SFGate) was evidence of the collective nervous breakdown that has met Sarah Palin's arrival on the political scene. It was all there: the condescension, elitisim, sexism, paranoia, personal attacks, and irrational hatred.
As a female conservative, I got a taste of the onslaught Palin has endured. And as with Palin, all sorts of false and ridiculous assumptions come with the territory. But as a certain Southern gentleman I know puts it, "A hit dog will holler. "
Other readers confirmed the backlash I suspected was brewing among Democrats and independents, all disgusted with the campaign of personal destruction Obama's supporters (including the obsessed media) have been heaping on Palin. To hear many of them tell it, particuarly self-described Hillary Democrats (or PUMAS), the McCain/Palin ticket will be getting their votes.

What toddler needs a padded bra?
An About Face After Being Saved by a Gun Owner
http://www.geoffmetcalf.com/reborn_20001012.htmlI am one of those people who you loathe. One of those invisible people who come into your living room without asking your permission. One of those people who follow you while you shop, and make it harder for you to make legal purchases. One of those people who try and tell you how to raise your children, as if you dont know how. One of those who gives ratings to stations that promote our demise as a free nation. I am your enemy. Or at least I was.
I followed it all, all of the propaganda, all of the hoopla. Believed it too. Believed that leaving my house was more dangerous than being in a war. At any given moment one of you evil gun owners would open fire on me. I saw the NRA stickers, the Gun owners of America stickers on the cars that passed, and I thought you were all fools. I did everything in my power financially to try and help more laws pass that would prevent you from owning guns. I wholeheartedly believed that only the Police, and Military should have guns. Every time I heard of a gang shooting, or other criminal act committed with a gun, I honestly believed that if we could curtail the legal sale of guns, we could make a difference.
Boy was I wrong.
I have children, three actually, and to me the only thing more important than raising them properly, was seeing that they arent hurt in anyway. I wanted to ban guns, save my children, save all children. No child should have to be part of any kind of death, especially the kind that involves being shot. I gave money to all of the anti gun organizations I could think of, went to the Million Mom March, even looked at Rosie when she spoke, and actually admire her. Brought the kids as well, and even yelled some not so nice things to those other marchers. Im sure some of you know who I refer to.
I was on my way back from the march, on my way back to Connecticut, when I stopped off of the highway at a rest stop by one of those McDonalds they have off I-95. By this time I had dropped off two of my kids with their father, and only had my little one with me. I went into the restroom with her, and on my way out noticed two men hanging out by my car. There were only two other cars in the lot at the time that were anywhere near my vehicle. I immediately felt threatened by their demeanor, but continued on to my car.
The smaller of the two approached me with a knife as I was about to open the door to put my child in her car seat. He yelled at me to get in the back of the car, they were taking me for a little ride. I obviously told them to just take my keys, they could have the car, but they insisted I get in the back. I then heard a man yelling something I dont quite recall, and saw him running towards me with a gun in his hand. The two men vanished into their car, and sped away. I stood there frozen in time, and by the time the gentleman with the gun got to me I just broke down and cried.
To make a long story short, you were all right, and Im sorry. This man with a gun saved me, and I just keep thinking if I had gotten my wish and guns were banned, there is no telling where Id be, and what wouldve happened to my daughter. The only regret I have is not getting the mans phone number who saved my life. I thanked him over and over again, and told him that he saved me, but he calmly said to me something Id never forget. He said Thats what people like me are here for Ms., and Im happy to have been able to help.
Thats what people like me are here for, those words keep on running through my head everyday. Maybe this gentleman by some chance is part of your group, and will read my message. If he does I would just like to say something to him, and to everyone else reading this note.
Thank you for saving my life, and to the rest of you thank you for fighting for this mans right to protect me and my child. Tell him for me that I will no longer be part of the group who invades his home, and tries to tell him how to store his guns. Tell him I will never be part of any group who tries to make it impossible for him to buy his tool he used to save me. And tell him I will never again tell him how to raise his children properly, because obviously I was oblivious to the fact that responsible people such as him know how to raise their children better than I do.
I did rectify that situation the other day; I bought a shotgun for home protection, and am in the process of getting my concealed permit. Next time I will be ready to defend myself, or others for that matter. Some of my friends think Im crazy, but they try their best to understand. I just tell them that as soon as their childs life is put in jeopardy by some criminal with a weapon that they will understand, but until then dont tell me how to live my life. Ive lost some friends, but surprisingly most of them understand. If not for this man I could very easily have been killed or raped, and my child couldve been taken from me, so once more I need to say thanks for saving me, and with all sincerity to the rest of you, forgive me, for I have sinned.

Do Facts Matter?Townhall.com ^ | October 3, 2008 | Thomas Sowell
Posted on Saturday, October 04, 2008 7:36:12 AM by Kaslin
Abraham Lincoln said, "You can fool all the people some of the time and some of the people all the time, but you can't fool all the people all the time."
Unfortunately, the future of this country, as well as the fate of the Western world, depends on how many people can be fooled on election day, just a few weeks from now.
Right now, the polls indicate that a whole lot of the people are being fooled a whole lot of the time.
The current financial bailout crisis has propelled Barack Obama back into a substantial lead over John McCain-- which is astonishing in view of which man and which party has had the most to do with bringing on this crisis.
It raises the question: Do facts matter? Or is Obama's rhetoric and the media's spin enough to make facts irrelevant?
Fact Number One: It was liberal Democrats, led by Senator Christopher Dodd and Congressman Barney Frank, who for years-- including the present year-- denied that Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac were taking big risks that could lead to a financial crisis.
It was Senator Dodd, Congressman Frank and other liberal Democrats who for years refused requests from the Bush administration to set up an agency to regulate Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.
It was liberal Democrats, again led by Dodd and Frank, who for years pushed for Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac to go even further in promoting subprime mortgage loans, which are at the heart of today's financial crisis.
Alan Greenspan warned them four years ago. So did the Chairman of the Council of Economic Advisers to the President. So did Bush's Secretary of the Treasury, five years ago.
Yet, today, what are we hearing? That it was the Bush administration "right-wing ideology" of "de-regulation" that set the stage for the financial crisis. Do facts matter?
We also hear that it is the free market that is to blame. But the facts show that it was the government that pressured financial institutions in general to lend to subprime borrowers, with such things as the Community Reinvestment Act and, later, threats of legal action by then Attorney General Janet Reno if the feds did not like the statistics on who was getting loans and who wasn't.
Is that the free market? Or do facts not matter?
Then there is the question of being against the "greed" of CEOs and for "the people." Franklin Raines made $90 million while he was head of Fannie Mae and mismanaging that institution into crisis.
Who in Congress defended Franklin Raines? Liberal Democrats, including Maxine Waters and the Congressional Black Caucus, at least one of whom referred to the "lynching" of Raines, as if it was racist to hold him to the same standard as white CEOs.
Even after he was deposed as head of Fannie Mae, Franklin Raines was consulted this year by the Obama campaign for his advice on housing!
The Washington Post criticized the McCain campaign for calling Raines an adviser to Obama, even though that fact was reported in the Washington Post itself on July 16th. The technicality and the spin here is that Raines is not officially listed as an adviser. But someone who advises is an adviser, whether or not his name appears on a letterhead.
The tie between Barack Obama and Franklin Raines is not all one-way. Obama has been the second-largest recipient of Fannie Mae's financial contributions, right after Senator Christopher Dodd.
But ties between Obama and Raines? Not if you read the mainstream media.
Facts don't matter much politically if they are not reported.
The media alone are not alone in keeping the facts from the public. Republicans, for reasons unknown, don't seem to know what it is to counter-attack. They deserve to lose.
But the country does not deserve to be put in the hands of a glib and cocky know-it-all, who has accomplished absolutely nothing beyond the advancement of his own career with rhetoric, and who has for years allied himself with a succession of people who have openly expressed their hatred of America.

IT'S NOT BECAUSE HE'S BLACKTHE AUDACITY OF TRUTH ABOUT BARACK HUSSEIN OBAMA ^ | 4 Oct 2008 | Jeff Head
Posted on Saturday, October 04, 2008 11:27:09 AM by Jeff Head
Recent main stream media and other pollsters have (again) played the "race card" (funny that the Obama campaign, the MSM, and the DNC are the only ones who seem to do this) by insinuating that the reason a fairly good number of democrats, particularly white democrats, may not support Barack Hussein Obama, is because he is black.
Apart from the assertion itself being racist, I beg to differ.
As a result of my fairly popular AUDACITY OF TRUTH and my SARAH PALIN TRUMPS OBAMA_BIDEN sites, I have spoken to many democrats via email, on forums, and some even by phone. Most of them are rather moderate, but some of them fairly staunch. A surprising number are not supporting Obama.
Why?
Not because "he is black".
Here, let me list the reasons I have been given via email and on forums such as the PUMA sites and others.
- THE WAY MANY OF THEM FEEL THAT OBAMA, THE MSM, THE DNC, AND OTHERS TREATED HILLARY. They feel that Obama, the MSM, the DNC, NOW, etc. have shown their true colors and that their commitment to women and breaking through the glass ceiling is a sham.
- OBAMA'S TIES TO WRIGHT, AYERS, & REZKO. Many of them know intrinsically that these people, with whom Obama has willfully built his political career, are not friends of this Republic...even the more socialist republic some of them want to see instituted.
- OBAMA'S STATEMENTS ABOUT HOW HE WOULD HANDLE FOREIGN AFFAIRS HAVE DEEPLY TROUBLED SOME OF THEM. Many of these people, despite their liberal leanings, like Liberman for example, want America protected from and want to defeat the abject enemies of this nation.
- JOHN MCCAIN IS VIEWED AS A MAVERICK BY THESE PEOPLE WHO WILL REACH ACROSS THE AISLE TO THEM. They feel that McCain is an acceptable alternative in their desire to defeat Obama and set up Hillary for 2012.
- SARAH PALIN ON THE TICKET. This goes back to the first reason. Even though her views are in direct opposition to their own, and even though they see the threat she poses to Hillary in 2012 if a McCain-Palin ticket is elected, there is something about her home-spun, and in the face of Obama ways that a lot of these people like, and they are committed to their ideal of breaking the so-called glass ceiling.
My experiences may not be "scientific" from a polling or demographic standpoint... but...
...we need to start sending to their Ombudsmans and editors to ask why they wont investigate Obama like they have Gov Palin.
Yep. Fascism comes to the US, and it wraps itself in an election sponsored by the Democrats. They just took all our money in the bailout.
Here is a mashup version of the
Obama Youth video from ThePeoplesCube that'll really scare you.

NOBODY TELL TED KENNEDY: Wind Farm Approved in New Jersey. "Regulators in New Jersey awarded the rights on Friday for construction of a $1 billion offshore wind farm in the southern part of the state to Garden State Offshore Energy. . . . The decision comes on the heels of decisions by Delaware and Rhode Island to allow the installation of offshore wind farms."
I don't know why anyone would object -- looking at the photo, the windmills are quite pretty.

Michelle Obama and William Ayers, now.
Let's see Barack try to duck this...if verified.
The verification is this link.....
http://chronicle.uchicago.edu/971106/justice.shtml
Bam's bombin' buddy: The Times's timely whitewash
Today's New York Times ambles onto the scene today just in time to whitewash the story of the long relationship between Barack Obama and his unrepentant terrorist ally William Ayers. The Times story by Scott Shane is "Obama and '60's bomber: A look into crossed paths." A headline more along the lines of "cooking up a crock" would have suited the story better.
The Times appropriately gives the last word on the subject to Jane Fonda's Hanoi escort, Tom Hayden. Way back when, of course, Hayden and Fonda took a camera crew to Hanoi and to the liberated regions of South Vietnam to make a propaganda film titled "Introduction to the Enemy," whose purpose was to persuade viewers that the Communists were going to create an ideal new society based on justice and equality. Hayden also traveled to Hanoi to meet with the Communist leadership on the development of the American antiwar movement that was the centerpiece of Hanoi's strategy to win the war. Today the Times calls on Hayden as a character witness to exonerate Obama's association with Ayers:
Mr. Hayden, 68, said he has known Mr. Ayers for 45 years and was on the other side of the split in the radical antiwar movement that led Mr. Ayers and others to form the Weathermen. But Mr. Hayden said he saw attempts to link Mr. Obama with bombings and radicalism as typical campaign shenanigans. If Barack Obama says hes willing to talk to foreign leaders without preconditions, Mr. Hayden said, I can imagine hed be willing to talk to Bill Ayers about schools. But I think thats about as far as their relationship goes.
To understand the extent of the whitewash performed by the Times today, turn first to
Stanley Kurtz, whom the Times somehow overlooked in favor of Hayden in its research on the story. Then check out
Stephen Green,
Tom Maguire and
Fausta Wertz.

"Just got back from the Carson event. There were about 25-30 radical Obama protestors that were basically shut down by everyone else who was shouting back at them, Sarah, Sarah, Sarah. They were a complete joke, along with their giant posters that showed a womans vagina (hand drawn). I guess they thought Palin was going to outlaw them, or something like that. She was just terrific and pounded the Obama/Biden team hardboy is she good. There were 15,000 supporters there that just loved her. I can send you photos if you want some to post. "
GAY Q&A: John McCain gives an interview to the Washington Blade.
UPDATE: Reader Laurence Sheldon emails:
Be interesting to see how somebody like Sullivan rationalizes his rabid behavior toward McCain in light of the article above.
And one wonders if the liberals are going eventually to be forced to recalibrate their assumptions about the "religious right" in the light of things like that article, and the Palin family.
At near 3-score and ten, I wonder if I will live long enough to see this all resolve. Or any of it.
They're emotionally committed to running against Elmer Gantry. It's central to their self-esteem.
If they want to get Palin on national TV they need to have her speak in states where the national media is located.
Those states are New York, California and Georgia. Speaking in Minnesota will not get as much coverage as California and a huge crowd in California leads not very knowledgeable viewers to think Palin and McCain and very popular everywhere.

It is too much for some poor women to handle. Women who were told that it was like getting their teeth pulled...(a line used on Maude) Now realize that it was actually more like killing their own precious babies.
Listen, we are under attack from within. The media has been indistinguishable from the Democrat party having thrown off any semblance of objective reporting. No negative Obama Biden stories - no investigative journalism on the deep corruption of Obama's ascent and sketchy background and terrible alliances. The massive vote fraud is unfathomable.
The Democrats want their Black president - no matter if his father was more Arab than African. No matter if he grew up on the streets of Indonesia. Nothing matters.
Do not even think of throwing up your hands and moaning "what can I do"? I don't want to hear it. This is America we are talking about. You owe to our founding fathers, to those that fought and died for the American idea, for American exceptional ism. You can do something and you should. It is your responsiblity to fight the forces of evi.
Start making calls. Anyone talking to Dem undecideds should have this info ready to go.
The campaign has organized what we call "Virtual Phone Banks" that you can access from anywhere. You simply need to log onto your computer, sign up as a member of the McCain "social conservative" coalition (Americans of Faith for McCain), pull up a list of potential supporters in a target state, and, with the use of the prepared script that will be provided, you can begin your calls. It's that simple. Click here for direct link: www.johnmccain.com/phonebank.
Please also send an email to Americansoffaith@mccain08hq.com to let us know that you are willing to serve as a McCain-Palin volunteer on our virtual phone bank. We want to make sure that John McCain and Sarah Palin know that you and other conservatives across the country are logging on the "virtual phone bank" to help.
Thank you in advance and may God bless you and your family!
There is also the group citizens for McCain.

Please use the first link to make calls during the day time hours on weekdays. Please use the second link to make all evening weekday calls, as well as all calls on weekends. All you need to do is click on the link or paste it into your web browser. Once the website opens, you should register your name, read the instructions, select the state in which you wish to place your calls, and select the "START" button. Before making calls, please read the script a couple of times to familiarize yourself with the material. Calls can be made between 10:00AM and 9:00PM local time of the state selected. You should read the script during the calls and fill in the boxes. We are not leaving voicemails. When a call is finished, press "NEXT" at the top of the page to move on to the next call.
You will be able to make calls in sets of 100. The system will then make you wait one hour before you can make an additional set of 100 calls.

Name: HKVKV, K VKN K V City: KHVKHVHKVHKV State: HI Employer: GH Occupation: GF
Another interesting donation is: HDUSAHFD, DAHSUDHU
He (could it be SHE?) gave $7,597.59 in July and August of this year. Works for: CZXVC Occupation: ZXVZXV
Now if this is the level of fraud being reported, what the heck is buried in the over $200 million in WALKING AROUND MONEY?

The Most Bizarre Journalistic Malpractice Yet?
It's a contender, anyway: the Associated Press claims that Sarah Palin's criticism of Barack Obama's relationship with Bill Ayers was racist!
The AP's article is an "analysis" by one Douglass K. Daniel, described as "a writer and editor with the Washington bureau of The Associated Press." It has to be read to be believed:
By claiming that Democrat Barack Obama is "palling around with terrorists" and doesn't see the U.S. like other Americans, vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin targeted key goals for a faltering campaign. And though she may have scored a political hit each time, her attack was unsubstantiated and carried a racially tinged subtext that John McCain himself may come to regret. ... Her reference to Obama's relationship with William Ayers, a member of the Vietnam-era Weather Underground, was exaggerated at best if not outright false. No evidence shows they were "pals" or even close when they worked on community boards years ago and Ayers hosted a political event for Obama early in his career. ...
Palin's words avoid repulsing voters with overt racism. But is there another subtext for creating the false image of a black presidential nominee "palling around" with terrorists while assuring a predominantly white audience that he doesn't see their America?
In a post-Sept. 11 America, terrorists are envisioned as dark-skinned radical Muslims, not the homegrown anarchists of Ayers' day 40 years ago. With Obama a relative unknown when he began his campaign, the Internet hummed with false e-mails about ties to radical Islam of a foreign-born candidate.
Whether intended or not by the McCain campaign, portraying Obama as "not like us" is another potential appeal to racism. It suggests that the Hawaiian-born Christian is, at heart, un-American.
Most troubling, however, is how allowing racism to creep into the discussion serves McCain's purpose so well. ...
John McCain occasionally looks back on decisions with regret. He has apologized for opposing a holiday to honor Martin Luther King Jr. He has apologized for refusing to call for the removal of a Confederate flag from South Carolina's Capitol.
When the 2008 campaign is over McCain might regret appeals such as Palin's perhaps more so if he wins.
When the McCain campaign ran an ad that had a white woman in it, it was denounced as racist. When it ran an ad that had an African-American man (Franklin Raines) in it, it was denounced as racist. Now the McCain campaign links Obama to a white man, the former terrorist, and still anti-American, Bill Ayers. That's racist too. I think we've exhausted just about all the possibilities. The only non-racist thing McCain can do, apparently, is concede the election.
There once was a time when the Associated Press was a respected news-gathering agency. Some years ago, it began to abandon that mission in order to transform itself into a liberal advocacy organization. That transformation is now pretty much complete.
2008 will be remembered, I think, as the year in which the collapse of traditional American media became irreversible. The AP has plenty of company.

Biden's boners
I thought Joe Biden did a good job in his debate with Sarah Palin this past Thursday. He sounded articulate and knowledgeable, especially for those who might have been unaware of his liberties with the truth. He seemed to me occasionally to look on Governor Palin's performance with admiration, smiling with a professional's recognition of the job she was doing. It made me think more highly of Biden as a man.
In some respects, however, Senator Biden's performance was disturbing. Senator Biden unleashed so many errors, misstatements, stretchers, whoppers, fabrications, and the like that it was hard to keep track. Jim Geraghty has counted 24 Biden lies/errors/hallucinations.
Perhap most striking was the conviction with which Biden conveyed his whoppers. Yuval Levin aptly notes that every time Biden sounded especially confident, he was saying something that wasnt true.
Take, for example, Biden's forceful denial that Barack Obama had never committed to meet with Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. Biden's denial was of course mistaken. During the YouTube Democratic primary debate last July Obama was asked if he would meet the leaders of Iran, Syria, Venezuela, Cuba, and North Korea without precondition during his first year in office. Video of the releavnt portion of the YouTube debate shows that the picture of each country's president including Ahmadinejad was displayed on the screen to illustrate the question that Obama proceeded to answer. I would, he replied.
On Thursday night, however, Biden denied that Obama had ever said he would "sit down with Ahmadinejad." Rather, Biden seemed to assert that Obama's commitment applied only to "the theocracy." According to Biden, Obama's commitment therefore referred to the mullahs who wield the ultimate authority in Iran, not to Ahmedinejad, who is only the country's president. (Obama himself has subsequently hedged his commitment to meet with Ahmaedinejad by implying he was referring to Iran's Supreme Leader rather than to Iran's president. How would meeting with Iran's Supreme Leader be an improvement over meeting with Iran's president? We await the One's illumination.)
In August 2007 Biden attacked Obama for making the very statement to which Governor Palin referred. While Biden was challenging Obama for the Democratic nomination for president Biden said he would not support such a pledge. Would I make a blanket commitment to meet unconditionally with the leaders of each of those countries within the first year I was elected president? he said in an appearance at the National Press Club. Absolutely positively no."
Moreover, in September 2007, it was widely reported that Obama cleared up any lingering doubt on the subject, not that there ever was any such doubt. USA Today and other news outlets reported that Obama would happily meet with Ahmadinejad as president in order to protect American interests.
Considering Senator Biden's misstatements in toto together with his conviction asserting them, one begins to wonder if Biden presents something worse than an extreme case of Senatitis. I don't know. I only note that last year we commented on Biden's revisionist history in explaining how the Iraq war started to a group of fourth graders at the statehouse in Concord, New Hampshire. Biden compared the war in Iraq with the invasion of Afghanistan:
"Osama bin Laden set up camps there, and he was getting a lot of help from folks running that country called Afghanistan. And that's where he planned an attack on America to bring the World Trade Towers down and kill all those innocent Americans. We had a right to, and we should've gone, to Afghanistan to try to get bin Laden and those people who've done very bad things to America," he said. "But the president, I think, he got a little confused," he continued. "I think he thought the folks in another country, way, way far away, far from here, it's also far from Afghanistan, called Iraq. He said, 'The guy in Iraq he helped bin Laden do bad things to us,' and he didn't. He wasn't a good guy, but he didn't help. So we used that kind of as an excuse to attack Iraq."
President Bush never said that Saddam's Iraq had anything to do with the September 11 attacks. One would think that Biden knew this. At the time John Hinderaker wondered whether Joe Biden was really willing to lie to a group of schoolchildren. In the fullness of time, I think it is fair to say that we can now answer that question with some confidence.

The last four weeks of this election will be about whether the American people are willing to turn our economy and national security over to Barack Obama, a man with little record, questionable judgment, and ties to radical figures like unrepentant domestic terrorist William Ayers. Americans need to ask themselves if theyve ever befriended an unrepentant terrorist, or had a convicted felon help them buy their house because those arent smears, those are true facts about Barack Obama. IF YOU CRITICIZE BARACK OBAMA OVER BILL AYERS, it's because you're a racist!
Well, of course. If you criticize Barack Obama over anything, it's because you're a racist. No doubt that'll hold true if he's elected President, too, which will call for strict anti-racism laws to keep such things under control . . . .
UPDATE: A reader emails: "Douglass Daniel accuses Sarah Palin of racism for tying Barack Obama to two white guys. Who's playing a race card, Palin or Daniel? Yeah, yeah, I know, I know, AP byline, what should I expect? Or am I a racist for asking?"
CHARGES OF BARNEY FRANK CONFLICT OF INTEREST:
Unqualified home buyers were not the only ones who benefitted from Massachusetts Rep. Barney Franks efforts to deregulate Fannie Mae throughout the 1990s.
So did Franks partner, a Fannie Mae executive at the forefront of the agencys push to relax lending restrictions.
Now that Fannie Mae is at the epicenter of a financial meltdown that threatens the U.S. economy, some are raising new questions about Frank's relationship with Herb Moses, who was Fannies assistant director for product initiatives. Moses worked at the government-sponsored enterprise from 1991 to 1998, while Frank was on the House Banking Committee, which had jurisdiction over Fannie.
Both Frank and Moses assured the Wall Street Journal in 1992 that they took pains to avoid any conflicts of interest. Critics, however, remain skeptical.
Others, however, are afraid to bring it up because he's gay. Is this the "soft bigotry of low expectations?" Or is it just, you know, a case of convenient political correctness?
UPDATE: Andrew Marcus emails:
Regarding your post this morning on Barney Frank, for what it is worth, he sponsored legislation to reform Fannie/Freddy in 2007. Better late than never I guess. It passed the House and sat in committee in the Senate.
Here is the link to the resolution: http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/bdquery/z?d110:HR1427:
And here is a link to Founding Bloggers where I examine the resolution in context of Nancy Pelosis claims of ignorance regarding the whole problem.
Better late than never, but that's four years after McCain was on the issue. And is the fact that Frank acted after the conflict-of-interest had ended really exculpatory?

ATLAS BROKE THE STORY ON ILLEGAL OBAMA CONTRIBUTIONS. All of our hard work pays off. Finally, the RNC has stepped out of its self induced coma and is taking some action.
RNC to file FEC complain accusing Obama campaign of taking money from foreign nationals. Chicago Sun Times (hat tip Miira)
I have been exposing these egregious acts since July (Obama's Contributions: Foreign and Domestic) and nothing has been done, and the media has averted it eyes.
The RNC is a tough party to support. They are so lethargic.
UPDATE: Newsweak has it here - cites all my work, doesn't cite Atlas Exclusive (typical big media pigs). And the got it wrong. The Newsweek article includes statement by the Obama campaign that they returned all the money from Palestinian brothers. The records show they did not. Also, they do not point out that they sent the tee shirts to GAZA. The brothers had them and sold them.
I started my investigation back in July and came up with "donors" like this
The name: Hbkjb, jkbkj
City: Jkbjnj
Works for: Kuman Bank (doesn't exist)
Occupation: Balanon Jalalan
Amount: $1,077.23
On July 30th, I posted Obama's Anonymous Foreign Donors and Other Bizarre Illegal Activity where I found 500k donated by "not employed" people.
On July 31st: Obama's Contributors: Good Will? Loving you? UPDATE: Doo da DooDa
and the contributions from Gaza.
OBAMA LIED: "Palestinian" Campaign Contributions NEVER RETURNED OR REFUNDED
OBAMA'S CONTRIBUTIONS: I SEE FAKE PEOPLE ... OVER THE LIMIT
Obama's Foreign Donors: The media averts its eyes American Thinker
UPDATE: tc wrtes, "hussein obama's heavy hitters are now circling their wagons around the anointed one - and beginning the usual obfuscation, misinformation, misdirection campaign ..."oh, we have no idea who these donors are, where they come from...and it's only a few thousands of dollars, ...besides we tried to give the donations back...""
Yeah right.
