At the request of members, I am restarting those "Tales from the Dark UnderBelly Of the Beast"-- the stories and issues that the press and media either ignore, won't even talk about, or will mention once and forevermore claim "it's old news..."
Naturally, some will be stories which interest me, or things I think we all need to be aware of.
I am experimenting with a minor change in presentation- when I can, I will cut to
-GoogleNewsBeta--
with a keyword or two and see what kind of links to "mainstream" stories I can find in contrast to what we see here and on other sites.
May I remind you of a couple of points to bear in mind?
Each link usually has many other links within- follow them all to get "the rest of the story."
Don't forget the "open multiple browsers" trick with control-n -- this allows you to hold your place with one, and use the others to follow links, run searches, etc.
Rather than go back and rehash old links, I'll give you links to the original posts here:
-DUBOB 10- the *best of* the Dark Underbelly Series--
-DUBOB 9-- even *more* tales from the Dark Underbelly of the Beast..... --

It is illegal to offer someone anything of importance or value in return for a vote, or running or not running for office.
Dick Morris was on with Sean Hannity tonight to discuss the Joe Sestak bribe scandal. Morris noted that if the Obama Administration offered Sestak a position in government in order to keep him from running for US Senator, this would be an impeachable offense.

It is the ultimate fantasy of the narcissist. And weve got whole generations of them, in control of our media and our government, all intent on remaking America.

Hillary asks China to spank North Korea? Pretty, pretty please! Do it for Obama!!
There is at least a 40% chance that the biggest danger to the Chinese was they might split a gut laughing at that. The torpedo (not) heard around the world may have been fired by the Chinese navy.
Think about it. China has been investing in super-quiet submarines. We know that, because of at least one embarassing incident where a Chines sub surfaced inside the defensive perimeter around a US aircraft carrier. North Korea is desperate for money, and undoubtedly sells torpedoes on the black market.
So the Chinese buy some North Korean torpedoes through deniable channels, pop them in a stealthy submarine, and take a gentle motor across the Yellow Sea. Then they wait off the west coast of North Korea until a suitable target comes along.
The Chinese get to answer a very important question Is Obama really the spineless incompetent he appears to be, or is he playing a deep game? And by pretending to be North Koreans attacking South Koreans, the Chinese answer this question at very low risk to themselves. Link to this Comment

Alabama Does It Again
Just when you thought Alabama politics could not get any better, along comes Rick Barber, Republican candidate for the Congress in Alabamas Second District.
He gets it.
Theres still hope for America As long as we have Alabama:
H/t Mizz Jodee
One woman, in every generation, to stand against the thugs, bullies, and all who want to do this nation harm.
One woman, with courage, conviction, and strength to every day take down the Left, beat them at their own game, and rally behind others the Left is attacking.
Sarah Heath Palin
the Slayer
is throwing her Facebook Ninja Stars again
this time at those attacking Nikki Haley in South Carolina.
Behold the might of a Momma Grizzly roaring back at the Left.
Now, can you ever in your lives imagine Romney, Pawlenty, Daniels, or anyone else in the cucumbers-and-mayonnaise-guild being as forceful or effective as this?
*************************************************************
UPDATE: When you read this latest Ninja Throwing Star, you can clearly see why we like Palin so much, on a personal as well as policy level.
First off, she talks like us.
She does not mince words and goes for the throat, which we love.
She really hammers the idiotic media, and she takes the fight right to the Left.
She does NOT play the usual Republican game of sitting around quietly, twiddling thumbs, and ignoring all this so they can take the high road.
The Left and the media, together, long ago taught Republicans to be battered housewives that take punch after punch without complaint, forever afraid to stand up and fight back because they DESPERATELY yearn for media love and affection, and have been told that will never come if they ever dont take the high road and speak up.
Well, Palins in the kitchen now, folks, and shes cooking with gas. When the media hits her or someone she supports, Palin grabs the nearest skillet and she starts whacking those responsible upside the head. This is Pioneer Feminism, and sign us up for as much of it as we can possibly get.
Republicans should have been behaving like this for the last 30 years.

Hillbuzz:
There are still Republicans and these psedo-intellectual types saying that Palin should not have defended Rand Paul. For example, some blogger named Dan Riehl, stated that Palin was playing the victim card by attacking MSM bias.
I wish we could banish the mealy-mouthed, dying-to-be-accepted-by-the-LSM mentality in Republican ranks. It is what sunk the McCain campaign, and its alive and well at the RNC and the NRSC. Mitch McConnell and Mitt Romney (even George Bush) are the poster boys for this.

Just an observation but as our current effete and blundering socialist president tanks our economy, insults our friends and allies, and bows and cowers before Islam and our other foreign enemies, its amazing to see the American Resistance to anti-exceptionalism coalesce around a valkyrie brigade of tough-as-nails, take-no-prisoners, get-it-done, God-Bless-America, moms and other awesome women.
Sarah Palin, our nations greatest hope, Momma Grizzly in Chief.
Michele Bachmann, who should be our next Speaker of the House.
Liz Cheney, firebrand and truthteller.
Jan Brewer, the most courageous member of the GOP, standing up to Liberalism and protecting her people the way no man before her had the guts to do.
Nikki Haley, who should be the next Governor of South Carolina.
Abigail Adams, Dolley Madison, Mercy Otis Warren, and Betsy Ross would be very proud indeed.
When America needs it most, the ladies are answering that clarion call.
Meanwhile, Mitt Romney, Tim Pawlenty, John Thune, Jon Hunstman, Mitch Daniels, and the other wimpy men the Lamestream Media keeps trying to foist upon us as the 2012 GOP nominee are gathered at a lacy-tableclothed table, sipping lukewarm tea and eating soggy cucumbers-and-mayonnaise sandwiches discussing ways they could bend over more flexibly and serve as further appeasement to this president and the insane things hes hellbent on doing to our nation.

Sarah Palin Defends Nikki Haley Against S.C. Bloggers Affair Claim
http://www.politicsdaily.com/2010/05/24/sarah-palin-defends-nikki-haley-against-s-c-bloggers-affair-cl/
Just another way of lying when Nikki Haley is ahead of the polls.
"Well, whaddaya know? Palin wrote. South Carolinas conservative candidate, Nikki Haley, recently zipped to the front of the line in her states race for governor; and lo and behold, now accusations of an affair surface."
This is really bizarre.
Three agents of The Religion of Peace were apprehended breaking into Heinz Field in Pittsburgh. They claim they were looking for a lost wallet.
The catch: no games have been played in Heinz Field since December.
Its now May.
The stadium has a customer service/guest affairs/security/lost-and-found department thats probably open every weekday during business hours. These Muslims could have contacted someone about a lost wallet at any time. Without having to break into the stadium to look for it themselves.
The Pittsburgh Post Gazette reports those apprehended as:
(1) Shazad Hosi Mehta (28) Elmhurst, IL
(2) Adil A. Minocherhomjee (22) La Jolla, CA
(3) Neville Noshir Medhora (27) Austin, TX
As noted in the HotAir piece linked above, its just so strange three men from states so far apart would converge upon Heinz Field early one weekend morning, climb a fence, sneak into the stadium
FOR WHAT?
What were they up to?
Are Muslims doing this at other stadiums across the country too?
Weve always been surprised, actually, that The Religion of Peace has never attempted to take out a major sporting event, Tom Clancy-style.

Be polite.
Be professional.
Have a plan to kill everyone you meet.
That said, too many people walk around completely oblivious to their surroundings and the people on the street. So, when something happens, they are caught completely unaware and have to immediately from Condition White to Condition Red; usually, with bad, sad results.
You need to be aware of what is going on around you at all times Condition Green. If you see something hinky, you move up to Condition Orange on the extreme alert and ready to react if need be. From there, if the need arises, you move to Condition Red weapon out and ready to stop the threat.
We are going to start seeing more attacks in places like malls, department stores, arenas, etc. Any place there are a lot of targets. Mumbai was NOT a one-off, people. There are people out there who hate us just because were not them and they want to kill us. Thats not paranoid just realistic.

So, America- how many times does this race-hustling pimp have to bitch-slap you before you wake up to what you have put in office?
Maybe 15 years ago, Id have had an ounce of sympathy. When these good folks invaded my home area en masse and turned it into a border town, neighbors from hell that have harrassed us for almost 3 years straight, and one of these fine fellows tried to murder a cop with a knife across the street from my home (for which the newspapers didnt bother to cover), Ive had just about enough. Deport them all, either by force, or by their own accord. What part of illegal is so hard to comprehend ?
Send in the Klowns:
Gun Rights: Not happy with interfering in our internal affairs by savaging Arizona's new immigration law, the president of Mexico wants to shred our Second Amendment too. And the mayor of Chicago wants to help.
There stood Mexican President Felipe Calderon before Congress, blaming America for the violence on his side of the border and, among other things, the guns that fuel the Mexican drug war that has claimed more than 23,000 Mexican lives since he took office in 2006. Rather than taking responsibility himself, he shoved the blame on America.
It would all stop, he implied, if America would reinstate a ban on semiautomatic weapons. The violence in Mexico, he said, "coincides, at least, with the lifting of the assault weapons ban in 2004."
He repeated the canard that in the past three years Mexican authorities have seized some 75,000 weapons, more than 80% of them traceable to the United States. Rubbish on both counts.
First, Mexico sends only about one-third of its confiscated weapons to the U.S. for tracing. Of that third, many can't be traced at all due to efforts to remove registration markings.

The democrats in Congress finally jumped into action. The tax-and-spend liberals decided the best thing they could do to help out in the Gulf after the disastrous oil spill was to quadruple the gas tax.
What a complete stunner.
Here comes higher gas prices for everyone thanks once again to democrats.
The AP reported:
Responding to the massive BP oil spill, Congress is getting ready to quadrupleto 32 cents a barrela tax on oil used to help finance cleanups. The increase would raise nearly $11 billion over the next decade.
The tax is levied on oil produced in the U.S. or imported from foreign countries. The revenue goes to a fund managed by the Coast Guard to help pay to clean up spills in waterways, such as the Gulf of Mexico.
The tax increase is part of a larger bill that has grown into a nearly $200 billion grab bag of unfinished business that lawmakers hope to complete before Memorial Day. The key provisions are a one-year extension of about 50 popular tax breaks that expired at the end of last year, and expanded unemployment benefits, including subsidies for health insurance, through the end of the year.
The House could vote on the bill as early as Tuesday. Senate leaders hope to complete work on it before Congress goes on a weeklong break next week.
Lawmakers want to increase the current 8-cent-a-barrel tax on oil to make sure there is enough money available to respond to oil spills. At least 6 million gallons of crude have spewed into the Gulf of Mexico since a drilling rig exploded April 20 off the Louisiana coast.
President Barack Obama and congressional leaders have said they expect BP to foot the bill for the cleanup.
Taxpayers will not pick up the tab, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., said Monday.
BP executives told Congress last week they would pay all legitimate claims for damages. But the government needs upfront money to respond to spills, as well as money to pay for cleanups when the responsible party is unable to pay, or is unknown. Money spent from the fund can later be recovered from the company responsible for the spill.

19 I honestly believe that Obama has already given up on any hope of a second term. As a matter of fact, I think there never was a hope of that. From the start, Obama has been only a Manchurian Candidate on a kamakazi mission to destroy capitalism beyond the point of no return.
At what point do even blacks start to become embarrassed that he is their ambassador to greatness as a people? This oil spill is clearly his Katrina and its only getting worse. Even the MSM is turning on him.

A survey in February by the BBC found that only 26 percent of Britons believed that climate change is happening and is now established as largely manmade, down from 41 percent in November 2009. A poll conducted for the German magazine Der Spiegel found that 42 percent of Germans feared global warming, down from 62 percent four years earlier.

Legitimacy has shifted to the side of the climate skeptics, and that is a big, big problem, Ben Stewart, a spokesman for Greenpeace, said at the meeting of environmentalists here. This is happening in the context of overwhelming scientific agreement that climate change is real and a threat. But the poll figures are going through the floor.

Former top federal prosecutor Andrew C. McCarthy has been one of Americas bravest and most stalwart warriors against Islamic jihad. Hes battled them in court. Hes exposed them here at home and around the globe.
His new book, The Grand Jihad: How Islam and the Left Sabotage America, is out today, and I urge you all to get a copy and then share it with all your friends and family. If you care about the survival of our country, McCarthys work is must-read. He thoroughly demonstrates how our external Muslim enemies join with out internal Alinskyite enemies to destroy all we hold dear.
You can follow him on Twitter here.
His latest piece at NRO asks trenchantly as always: How long can a people remain a People when its leaders side with its foes? McCarthy writes:
A number of years ago, at some risk to myself and my family, I prosecuted savage jihadists who had made themselves enemies of the United States. I was lauded for doing so by the Clinton administration. Though I disagreed with that administration philosophically, and particularly with its conception of international terrorism as a crime problem, I praised the much-needed overhaul by which it put teeth in our counterterrorism laws. Our disagreement was over the best way to protect the country, not over the imperative that the country be protected. Our debate was the traditional Right-Left debate.
Moreover, as a New York lawyer who made no secret of having conservative views, I was a decided minority, even among my fellow prosecutors. But that only mattered in the occasional, friendly joust over a beer. Day to day, our politics had nothing to do with how we went about our jobs. At the office, I had friends across the ideological spectrum. Most of them were from the political left, but we liked and respected one another. The bond we shared, the sense that we were doing something good for the nation we all loved, was stronger than any ideological divisions.
Why does that matter now? Because, for the first time in our history, we have a president who would be much more comfortable sitting in a room with Bill Ayers than sitting in a room with me. We have a governing class that is too often comfortable with anti-American radicals, with rogue and dysfunctional governments that blame America for their problems, and with Muslim Brotherhood ideologues who abhor individual liberty, capitalism, freedom of conscience, and, in general, Western enlightenment. To this president and his government, I am the problem.
Bullseye.

A quick tear across the tabs:
Private Pay Shrinks to Historic Lows. Hey, our newest car is nine years old. Wed love to help out the automakers by buying something new, but between the taxes, the raise-freeze, increased costs and so forth, its not happening this year.
On the same subject, Ed Morrissey says that if we havent figured it out before, now is a good time to understand that were in serious trouble, since Obama has decided to double down on the very disaster he whines about inheriting.
Chilling. But dont worry, while your 401K is dying, the union pensions will be getting a bail out.

Financial Reform Bill a disaster. Who is surprised?

Confucius Classroom. California schools teaching elementary school students Chinese, with China footing the bill. The teacher says, with their support, its a lot easier. The funniest line: the schools are convinced they have enough checks and balances to keep out propaganda, you know, like the Texas schools social studies books! China-lovin Tom Friedman will be so happy his heart will come out of his chest and fall down on the floor!
Sorry. Tom Friedmans happy heart reminded me of that scene. I am sick, remember, and on cough meds. Thank you, Dong!
This Sestak story reminds me of the bungling, corrupt leadership of Joseph Hellers Catch-22. I dont think the story is going away no matter how many times the WH investigates itself and finds that it always never said it would give Sestak a job. Or at least there is no proof. Kind of like no controlling legal authority.
Go to Arlington Cemetery on Memorial Day? Not me, Im just the Commander in Chief. Obama seems profoundly bored by any aspect of the presidency that does not advance his domestic agenda. What does not bore him, inconveniences him, like the oil spill in the Gulf. This will be his second getaway since that happened, what, 35 days ago? And patriotic stuff like observing Memorial Day appears to both bore and inconvenience.
I know, its tiresome, but the thought goes round and round: just imagine if it were Bush.

With appropriate caveats:
BP contracted Schlumberger (SLB) to run the Cement Bond Log (CBL) test that was the final test on the plug that was skipped. The people testifying have been very coy about mentioning this, and youll see why.
SLB is an extremely highly regarded (and incredibly expensive) service company. They place a high standard on safety and train their workers to shut down unsafe operations.
SLB gets out to the Deepwater Horizon to run the CBL, and they find the well still kicking heavily, which it should not be that late in the operation. SLB orders the company man (BPs man on the scene that runs the operation) to dump kill fluid down the well and shut-in the well. The company man refuses. SLB in the very next sentence asks for a helo to take all SLB personel back to shore. The company man says there are no more helos scheduled for the rest of the week (translation: youre here to do a job, now do it). SLB gets on the horn to shore, calls SLBs corporate HQ, and gets a helo flown out there at SLBs expense and takes all SLB personel to shore.
6 hours later, the platform explodes.
Pick your jaw up off the floor now. No CBL was run after the pressure tests because the contractor high-tailed it out of there. If this story is true, the company man (who survived) should go to jail for 11 counts of negligent homicide.
OK...

Chime in with your theories on whats going on here, but Robert Gibbs sweats profusely whenever the media asks a question about the bribe the White House offered Joe Sestak to drop out of the Pennsylvania primary so that Arlen Specter could have won the Democrat nomination.
Gibbs flat out refuses to answer these questions. If Saturday Night Live really did its job, theyd lampoon this by having Gibbs start reading favorite family recipes instead of talking about what he was asked. Why did the White House offer Sestak that bribe?. Uh, heres Aunt Sallys pound cake recipe. First, you need some butter, then

The most glaring sign that President Obamas announcement of border funding and National Guard troops is one big, phony charade? He apparently didnt even bother to let the governor of besieged Arizona, Gov. Jan Brewer, know about it. Via Yahoo News:
The Obama administration plans to announce Tuesday that it will send as many as 1,200 National Guard troops to the U.S.-Mexico border to improve border security, an Arizona congresswoman said.
Democratic Rep. Gabrielle Giffords also said in a statement released Tuesday that President Barack Obama will request $500 million in funding for border security.
Part of Giffords district borders Mexico.
Arizona Gov. Jan Brewers spokesman said the governor hadnt been told of the move prior to her office being contacted by The Associated Press and had no immediate comment.
I called out the Bush administration and Republicans countless times when they used border security as a campaign ploy and performed Get Tough Theater only to flake out on systemic immigration enforcement reform and then drop the shamnesty shoe.
This is no different. Both political parties in Washington reek on the issue.
The only thing worse than open-borders Obama exploiting our illegal immigration woes is open-borders Johnny-come-lately John McCain continuing to do the same.
Until politicians with proven integrity and commitment to securing this country against invasion step into the leadership vacuum, Arizonas DIY policy on border security is the only trustworthy one:
Do It Yourself.

Update: GOP Sen. Jeff Sessions responds:
U.S. Senator Jeff Sessions (R-AL), Ranking Member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, issued the following statement today regarding reports that President Obama plans to request funding for 1,200 National Guard troops to be sent to the U.S.Mexico border:
The only thing that matters is whether the presidentthe Chief Executive and the top law enforcement officer of the countryis personally committed to ending illegality at the border. Announcing and taking specific steps can be helpful, but only if its part of a determined and consistent effort to fix the problem. The presidents decision to send up to 1,200 troops to the border, while helpful, will not fix the problem. Indeed, it is less than a third of the troops ordered to the border by President Bush.
Just days ago, members of President Obamas administration gave Mexican President Felipe Calderón a standing ovation as Calderón proceeded to slander the state of Arizona for its efforts to protect its citizens. President Obamas chief immigration officer, John Morton, announced that he might not enforce immigration crimes reported by Arizona officials. And, both the Attorney General and the Homeland Security Secretary have attacked the Arizona law, though they later admitted to having never actually read it.
It is critical that President Obama make border security a true priority and send a clear signal that his administration is dedicated to consistently enforcing the rule of law. Sending National Guard troops to the border can be an important step in the right direction, but it should be followed with a commitment to vigorous worksite enforcement, full cooperation with state and local law enforcement officials, strong support for completion of the border fence, and all other necessary border measures. If these policies are resolutely done, the massive current illegality will be dramatically improved.
Update: Mexico tells us how to police our border:
Regarding the Administrations decision to send 1,200 National Guard servicemen to the US Southern border, the Government of Mexico trusts that this decision will help to channel additional US resources to enhance efforts to prevent the illegal flows of weapons and bulk cash into Mexico, which provide organized crime with its firepower and its ability to corrupt.
Additionally, the Government of Mexico expects that National Guard personnel will strengthen US operations in the fight against transnational organized crime that operates on both sides of our common border and that it will not, in accordance to its legal obligations, conduct activities directly linked to the enforcement of immigration laws.

Ace of Spades nailed it.
The Obama Administration announced today that they would send 1,200 National Guard troops to the Mexican border. Ace said it was just cover for the Administration so that they could go after the Arizona immigration law. Ace was right. In fact, todays announcement was just a diversion. Barack Obama knew before todays troop announcement that his Justice Department would challenge Arizonas immigration law. His ingrained radicalism is predictable.
Tonight, a team of radical Obama Justice Department attorneys recommended that the U.S. government challenge the Arizona state immigration law.
FOX News reported:
A team of Justice Department attorneys reviewing the new immigration law in Arizona has recommended that the U.S. government challenge the state law in federal court, but the recommendation faces an uncertain future and tough scrutiny from others in the Justice Department, sources with knowledge of the process tell Fox News.
Staff attorneys within the Justice Department recently sent higher-ups the recommendation. At the same time, the Justice Departments Civil Division, which oversees the majority of immigration enforcement issues for the department, has drafted a civil complaint that would be filed in federal court in Arizona, sources said.
The draft complaint challenges the Arizona law as unconstitutional, saying it is illegal because it impedes federal law, according to the sources, who would not offer any more details about the draft complaint or the arguments made in it.
Two weeks ago, Attorney General Eric Holder told lawmakers such an issue was being considered by Justice Department lawyers reviewing the new law, which outlines and possibly broadens the authority of police to detain those suspected of being in the country illegally.
The Arizona immigration law reinforces this national immigration law that has been in effect for 70 years.

BRING BACK DDT (CONTD): More on Floridas dengue fever outbreak. Last August, an alert doctor in upstate New York realized that one of his patients, whose only recent travel had been to Key West, Fla., had dengue a mosquito-borne virus that causes joint pain so severe it is nicknamed break-bone fever in Latin America and Asia. According to last weeks report from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Florida health authorities have since found 27 more cases, all in Key West, the last in April. . . . Although there have been outbreaks along the Texas-Mexico border since 1980, the disease had not been seen in Florida since 1934. Unlike malaria, which is caused by a parasite, dengue is a virus, and there is no cure.
BUT OF COURSE: Rear-end collisions jump at red-light camera intersections in West Palm Beach. Rear-end collisions more than doubled and accidents increased overall in the first 70 days of red-light cameras in West Palm Beach compared to the same period of 2009, traffic records reviewed by The Palm Beach Post show.

Oh well, it was all more or less predicted 7 months ago here on FR right after the famous November Tokyo "Bow" by Obama, but really a no-brainer...many of us saw it coming. Because we know how Asians in general and North Koreans in particular think and react to IMAGERY. Potent imagery:
"To: Candor7 Yep. This brilliant man just really stepped in the guano, didnt he, here in Asia? They will play him like a stradivarious all around Asia now, particularly in Beijing, and even where he is not going, in enemy Pyongyang. This was the tone he set at the OAS meeting where Chavez stepped up and used him, whereupon Zelaya in Honduras was immediately emboldened to try to seize unending power through a referendum coup and had to be constitutionally removed, I am convinced (looking at the timeline). This is dangerous. This imagery can become the precursors to the precursors to war, because it emboldens the enemy in their psych profiling of our leaders and whether they are made of "the stuff" or not. Now watch North Korea REALLY start to test him, to rattle his cage to see if he gets the squirts, by stepping up provocations in the Yellow (West) Sea along the NLL and the DMZ, prior to him going to Seoul next week. 211 posted on 11-14-2009 16:28:04 by AmericanInTokyo"

A FReeper once posted an experience he had a couple of years back when some computer systems at his local walmart failed (for debit/credit cards), and the ATM machine was not working either, and in 20 minutes people were complaining about people with cash being able to buy. When the Shining Path Maoist Communists took over the Japanese embassy, and offered to slit the throats of everyone inside, President Fujimori sent in a special police unit that sent every one of the evil bastards straight to Hell.
Lori Berensen was arrested in a Shining Path Maoist Communist safe house in Lima. The place was full of guns and explosives, and plans to conduct a horrific terrorist campaign against innocent people.
Dont for an instant let the left or the MSM pretend that the Shining Path Maoist Communists were anything better, or deserved to live any more than Nazi concentration camp guards, cannibal serial killers, Thuggee stranglers, or any other of the human monsters who have done their part to redefine the word evil throughout human history.

VICTOR DAVIS HANSON:
Death of the Postmodernist Dream. As crises mount abroad and voters anger grows at home, Obamas dream of a new world order has died a quiet death. . . . So the welfare state is discredited. In the past, we used to be warned that static population growth, vast public-sector employment, early and generous retirement benefits, and high taxes were not sustainable. In recent years, those lectures were caricatured as partisan or hypothetical. No longer. The Greek meltdown with Ireland, Italy, Portugal, and Spain on the brink has shown that European socialism does not work. Bankruptcy, not politics, is the final arbiter: Individuals, firms, and nations either buy particular bonds or they dont. And a nation like Greece, in turn, either pays what it has borrowed or it doesnt. All the op-eds in the
New York Times cannot change that fact.

BOOOOOOSH!
In an effort to better corral the BP oil spill story for which Obama is being increasingly scrutinized, even by some of his most diehard media fluffers Democrats have broken out an old standby: its all Bushs fault.
Reached for comment, John Boltons straight-talking mustache, Regis, shrugged. Yeah, well, whatd you expect? Theyre assholes.
Will no one rid me of this meddlesome chimp?
Someone, please, tell me again how smart Barack Obama is. Because I've lost sight of any proof of that statement.
First up, while the BP oil spill continues unchecked, he announces that he's going to take a break from keeping his boot on their neck to enjoy a little vacation time back in sweet home Chicago. On Memorial Day. Leaving the traditional laying of a wreath at the Tomb Of The Unknowns to Sheriff Joe.
Now, Barack Obama has no place at Arlington Cemetery. He never served in the military, has never shown any particular respect or reverence for the military, and spent way, way too much time palling around with someone who actively plotted to kill members of the military.
But the President of the United States... that's another story. It's become a tradition for the Commander In Chief, on that solemn day, to pay his respects to those who have fallen in our nation's service. It's a subtle reinforcement of the fact that our military is subject to civilian command, as well as the duly elected representative of the American people to show that loyalty, honor, and respect are a two-way street.
Media Matters, in defending Obama's decision to blow off this, cites two examples from the last 30-odd years when presidents didn't attend. (It's occasionally fun to use the "other side" as a source, and I'm perfectly content to let those tools do the rope-weaving before I hang them with it.) In 1983, President Reagan was attending an economic summit, so he sent a Deputy Secretary of Defense in his stead.
What they don't mention was that the Deputy in question was a distinguished World War II veteran, Navy ace, and former test pilot who, coincidentally enough, died barely two weeks ago. So, in that case, I think Reagan found a suitable proxy.
((On the other hand, in 1985 he pleaded guilty to participating in an insider-trading scheme where he didn't personally profit, but helped others, so he wasn't exactly a sterling character, but that wasn't known at the time he stood in for Reagan. But I digress.))
The other example was President George H. W. Bush in 1992, who -- like Obama -- took a family vacation and sent his vice-president, Dan Quayle, in his stead. But unlike Biden, Quayle had a military background -- an entirely undistinguished stint in the Illinois National Guard. And Bush himself was, like Reagan's proxy, a distinguished Navy pilot from World War II.
Another time Media Matters managed to overlook was in 2002, when George W. Bush skipped it. At the time, he was in Europe, and he paid his respects at Normandy.
Meanwhile, Obama is showing just how serious he's taking Arizona's concern about its southern border. After years of yelling, pleading, and begging, they're finally getting some National Guard support along the southern border. Obama finally heard them.
But apparently not too clearly. He's sending a grand total of 1,200 Guard members to cover the entire border, four states' worth. And he didn't bother to notify the states' members of Congress about it in advance.
VAN SUSTEREN: ...You and Senator Kyl have been writing the president on multiple occasions and for quite some time. Did the president actually respond to you and say, Senator McCain, I can't give you 6,000, but I can give you 1,200, or did you just learn about this in the press? MCCAIN: We learned about it in the press. And the interesting thing was that at the luncheon that the president came to with Republican senators, the issue came up and I discussed it with the president, including the fact that we had to secure the borders first, otherwise, we would be faced with a continuous problem of illegal immigrants. And Jon Kyl mentioned the supplemental and that we needed additional troops, and the president didn't say anything then. And a half hour afterwards, there was a statement or a press release from the administration saying they had 1,200 -- they were sending 1,200 additional. So -- and at the same time, I had an amendment on the floor, which we'll be voting on tomorrow, to fund 6,000 additional troops. Interesting -- all these are interesting coincidences.
I can't even find any accounts of whether he notified their governors first.
In both cases, while not strictly legally mandated, it's considered a common courtesy to notify the political leaders of a state before you send in the troops. Back during Hurricane Katrina, President Bush went to great pains to keep the governors of the afflicted states -- even the astonishingly incompetent Democratic governor of Louisiana, Kathleen Blanco -- in the loop as much as possible.
My own theory is that since three of the four states have Republican governors (California's Schwarzenegger, Arizona's Brewer, and Texas' Perry), politics probably played a part. New Mexico's Bill Richardson might have gotten a tip-off, but there's an old saw: "never ascribe to malice that which can be adequately explained by incompetence." Considering how inept this administration has proven thus far, I'll grant them the benefit of the doubt and guess they only thought of Brewer and Perry, and said "screw 'em." They simply didn't think about it enough to realize the full implications of the deployment.
The biggest problem Obama seems to have is that the guy just won't listen when others try to tell him he's making a mistake. Worse, he's surrounded himself with tons of people who won't even try to tell him.
Remember that Obama attended Harvard Law School? There's an old saying that comes to mind: "You can always tell a Harvard man, but you can't tell him much."
Because they already know it all. Just ask them.

Thugocracy 2.0--
An American working in Mexico
From the other side of the fence...
"I spent five years working in Mexico. I worked under a tourist Visa for three months and could legally renew it for three more months. After that you were working illegally. I was technically illegal for three weeks waiting on the FM3 approval.
"During that six months our Mexican and U.S. attorneys were working to secure a permanent work visa called a 'FM3'. It was in addition to my U.S. passport that I had to show each time I entered and left the country. Barbara's was the same, except hers did not permit her to work.
"To apply for the FM3, I needed to submit the following notarized originals (not copies): 1. Birth certificate for Barbara and me. 2. Marriage certificate. 3. High school transcripts and proof of graduation. 4. College transcripts for every college I attended and proof of graduation. 5. Two letters of recommendation from supervisors I had worked for at least one year. 6. A letter from the St. Louis Chief of Police indicating that I had no arrest record in the U.S. and no outstanding warrants and, was "a citizen in good standing". 7. "Finally, I had to write a letter about myself that clearly stated why there was no Mexican citizen with my skills and why my skills were important to Mexico. We called it our 'I am the greatest person on Earth' letter. It was fun to write."
"All of the above were in English that had to be translated into Spanish and be certified as legal translations, and our signatures notarized. It produced a folder about 1.5 inches thick with English on the left side & Spanish on the right."
"Once they were completed Barbara and I spent about five hours, accompanied by a Mexican attorney, touring Mexican government office locations and being photographed and fingerprinted at least three times at each location, and we remember at least four locations where we were instructed on Mexican tax, labor, housing, and criminal law and that we were required to obey their laws or face the consequences. We could not protest any of the government's actions or we would be committing a felony. We paid out four thousand dollars in fees and bribes to complete the process. When this was done we could legally bring in our household goods that were held by U.S. Customs in Laredo, Texas. This meant we had rented furniture in Mexico while awaiting our goods. There were extensive fees involved here that the company paid. We could not buy a home and were required to rent at very high rates and under contract and compliance with Mexican law."
"We were required to get a Mexican driver's license. This was an amazing process. The company arranged for the licensing agency to come to our headquarters location with their photography and fingerprint equipment and the laminating machine. We showed our U.S. license, were photographed and fingerprinted again and issued the license instantly after paying out a six dollar fee. We did not take a written or driving test and never received instructions on the rules of the road. Our only instruction was to never give a policeman your license if stopped and asked. We were instructed to hold it against the inside window away from his grasp. If he got his hands on it you would have to pay ransom to get it back."
"We then had to pay and file Mexican income tax annually using the number of our FM3 as our ID number. The company's Mexican accountants did this for us and we just signed what they prepared. It was about twenty legal size pages annually."
"The FM3 was good for three years and renewable for two more after paying more fees."
"Leaving the country meant turning in the FM3 and certifying we were leaving no debts behind and no outstanding legal affairs (warrants, tickets or liens) before our household goods were released to customs."
"It was a real adventure and if any of our Senators or Congressmen went through it once they would have a different attitude toward Mexico. The Mexican government uses its vast military and police forces to keep its citizens intimidated and compliant. They never protest at their capitol or government offices, but do protest daily in front of the United States Embassy. The U.S. Embassy looks like a strongly reinforced fortress and during most protests the Mexican military surrounds the block with their men standing shoulder to shoulder in full riot gear to protect the Embassy. These protests are never shown on U.S. or Mexican TV. There is a large public park across the street where they do their protesting. Anything can cause a protest such as proposed law changes in California or Texas."
Please feel free to share this with everyone who thinks we are being hard on the illegals.
DAMMIT!
When are these vermin going to stop squandering our money?
Carvilles a liar. Of course, he knows why obama is doing nothing. And Carville would approve of this tactic if the disaster were anywhere but his own back yard.
Obamas doing nothing in order to capitalize on a crisis; the hope among the Axelrod-Emanuel-Obama axis of evil is that the environmental damage will be so severe and long lasting that big oil will be forever demonized in the minds of all Americans, and domestic drilling will be doomed for all time.
And the dirty little secret is that, even if he did decide to act, even with the power of the entire US executive department at his disposal, he wouldnt know what to do...
WRONG! President Bush was planning for Katrina BEFORE she ever made landfall. It was Ma Blanco and Ray "Chocolate City" Nagin who dropped the ball on preparations for the hurricane. Even afterwards, it was the responsibility of the State's Governor to ask the President for assistance, though she was in charge of her own National Guard, so she could have sent them to NO at any time.
In Katrina, the Bush Administration had the Coast Guard in the air within 24 hours, plucking people off their rooftops. FEMA was waiting outside the city, not being allowed to go in because the media was putting out reports (erroneous it turns out) that rescue workers were being fired on by who knows who! FEMA wasn't going to place its folks in harms way, so they held off til there was protection for them. The blame for so many people living in squalid conditions until FEMA could get there should be laid squarely at the feet of the City of New Orleans and the State of Louisiana.
On the other hand, as soon as this BP accident occurred, whatever Federal agency in charge of responding to this sort of thing should have been on the horn IMMEDIATELY to the President, who could have called on the Navy and Coast Guard who could have begun action to contain the spill closer to the site. Apparently the person who was supposed to be in charge of those things either didn't KNOW they were in charge, or they simply didn't bother to do what they're supposed to do. OR it's possible that Obama WAS informed, but his 'get out the minority vote' tour was too important to be interrupted.

Brilliant idea in the middle of a recession.
this from Judge Napolitano earlier:
Sestak case deepens--did White House commit a felony by offering a job to Sestak?
Well the ramifications are potentially enormous. I mean to offer someone something of value in order to affect their official behavior as a member of Congress is a felony. We call it a bribe. To offer someone something of value to affect the outcome of an election is a felony. Each of those carries five years with them.

In the land of zero nukes, the 1-nuke man is king. As weve seen with the failed efforts of UN arms inspectors to contain the development of nukes in Iraq, Iran and elsewhere, we lack the capacity to prevent rogue states from covertly developing nukes. Thus, by going to zero, the U.S. will set off a race among many nations to covertly develop and deploy just a handful of nukes that could become a game-changer when push comes to shove.
The mentality behind zero nukes is the same one that drives draconian efforts at gun control: that things are somehow made safer if everyone is disarmed. But what that really does is just make the world safer for bad guys. In a world where many are armed, the bad-guy advantage goes away etc.

Yesterday, hackers changed the message on one of the ubiquitous portable illuminated traffic signs in Florida. From NBC Miami, we get this report:
A highway sign flashing NO LATINOS NO TACOS greeted drivers on the Palmetto Expressway in Northwest Miami-Dade, after hackers managed to alter it early Tuesday morning.
The sign was in the northbound side of the 826, right near the Northwest 25th street exit.
Its unknown how long the sign had been flashing the message, but by 6 a.m., members of the Florida Highway Patrol and a road crew had turned the sign away from the highway and were working to erase the message.
Almost immediately the MSM and left-wing blogs (like this one) tagged the prank as right-wing racism. Seems that everyone has forgotten about this unadulterated image:
According to the race-baiters, illegal immigrants and legal hispanics are way too stooopid to figure out the complexity of a programmable road sign, so its gotta be the evil Mr. Whitey McConservative. "Worse than Jimmy Carter,"
Lawbreaking: There's only one way to find out if Pennsylvania's Democratic Senate nominee, Joe Sestak, is telling the truth about the White House bribe offer: Have a prosecutor place him under oath.
The White House has a real, live snowballing scandal on its hands. And Rep. Sestak, who won the Senate primary against Democrat-turned-Republican-turned-Democrat Sen. Arlen Specter, is painting himself into a corner it will be tough to get out of before November.
In February, then repeatedly since, the maverick Democrat claimed that a White House aide offered him a big government job if he wouldn't run against Specter.
That's a felony, pure and simple. The Daily Caller this week featured the text of three areas of federal statute that apply, which House Oversight Committee ranking Republican Darrell Issa of California cited in a letter to Attorney General Eric Holder calling for a special prosecutor.
One, 18 USC 600, prohibits promising "any employment, position, compensation, contract, appointment or other benefit, provided for or made possible in whole or in part by any Act of Congress ... in connection with any primary election" under penalty of fine or prison or both.
A second, 18 USC 211, prohibits soliciting or receiving "any money or thing of value, in consideration of the promise of support or use of influence in obtaining for any person any appointive office or place under the United States."

James Carville loves Louisana the way we love Cleveland, Pittsburgh, and Texas some of our own home towns and states. You dont mess with Texas, and you dont f*** with Cleveland, not on our watches. No matter how old we get, or what city we currently live in, we have that strong attachment to where we came from and we would do anything we could to strike back against those who hurt our home towns in any way.
So, that makes us wonder whats going through the mind of Ragin Cajun James Carville Democrat operative to the core, but Louisiana native at his heart.
Carvilles an interesting bird, to put it mildly...

"Remember, people, when Obama campaigned in 2008 he stood on pedestals in the capitals of Europe and declared himself to be sent from the stars to lower the oceans, plug the hole in the ozone, and usher in a new era of Hope and Change. He waived his hand, Christ-like, and klieg lights ignited from the stage, the way the band members of KISS used to do, only with less makeup and better costuming."

I think Obama and his staff failed to grasp the enormity of the problem. Whoever thought it was a great idea for him to go on two vacations, play golf (twice in the past week), play basketball (daily), have a party for Mexico (two months early so they could politicize Arizona), go campaigning for Boxer TWICE, and have the usual Wednesday cocktail parties was NOT thinking straight. It is becoming obvious what this presidents priorities are. As this situation worsens and ordinary Americans see the damage, this president is mud.

A man has his priorities, you know.
Obama will hold a few more photo ops before addressing the BP oil spill disaster today.
President Barack Obama, flanked by Vice President Joe Biden, left, and former President Bill Clinton, right, pose for a photo with the U.S. World Cup soccer team under the North Portico of the White House in Washington, Thursday, May 27, 2010. (AP)
Political Punch reported:
This morning, President Obama will meet with the NCAA mens basketball champion Duke Blue Devils at the White House to honor their 2009-2010 championship season in the Rose Garden.
Keeping up the sports theme, the president and the vice president will take a photo with the U.S. World Cup soccer team and former President Bill Clinton, who is chairing the 2018 World Cup bid, on the North Portico. The White House has previously announced that Vice President Biden and Jill Biden will attend the World Cup in South Africa next month.
Afterward, the president will a private have lunch with President Clinton in the Private Dining Room.
In the afternoon, the President will deliver remarks on the BP oil spill and the conclusions of his ordered 30-day safety review and hold a press conference in the East Room.
The president will announce standards to strengthen oversight of the industry and enhance safety, a first step in a process that the independent Presidential Commission will continue, a White House official says.
In the meantime, the moratorium on permits to drill new deepwater wells will continue for a period of six months
A country gets the foreign policy, nearly all the time, that its population WANTS. About 60% of the US population want the US humiliated and defeated because they are not in fact, American. They are Post-American. Citizens of the World.

Obama To Appear on Coast Guard Ship With "Plug the Damn Hole! Mission Accomplished" Sign

I made up that last part, but my oh my, the victory laps this guy is going to take after letting oil gout into the Gulf for 36 days.
When he makes his Memorial Day photo-op here, I expect the letter "I" to be used an awful lot in speaking of the disaster arrested; on the other hand, I expect the letters "BP" to be used a lot when speaking of the month before.
Now that the flood of oil was stopped, they can safely admit how much oil they had been allowing into the Gulf:
Allen also said that later today, an interagency team will release a revised estimate of how much oil was flowing from the well into the Gulf. The Coast Guard has estimated the flow at 5,000 barrels a day, but independent estimates suggest it is much higher -- perhaps tens of thousands of barrels a day.
You might think that this could help the cause of energy production a little. A Worst Case Scenario has been handled (we think), after all. But you'd be wrong: Obama's cancelling licenses for offshore drilling.

Their flying of the Gadsden Flag, a Revolutionary War-era flag depicting a coiled rattlesnake with the slogan Dont Tread On Me below it, angered some residents because though it was originally created to protest the British government prior to and during the American Revolution, it has become a symbol to some of the American Tea Party movement....

OBAMAS KATRINA: The media started riding Bush about his response to Katrina within a couple of days. Obama got a pass for over a month.
Katrina? More like Chernobyl.
Yes, Mo'Bambam is an idiot...
Yes, you put him in office...
Yes, you are...
As Shawn mentioned below, the Obama press conference today was literally unbelievable. The "checkers moment" ("daddy, did you plug the hole"?) he tried to insert in the presser came after an hour of unctuous lecturing and evasion. This may have been the most disastrous presidential press news conference since Nixon's famous "I am not a crook" moment.
It's hard to imagine a Republican president getting away with the weasel words offered today by Barack Obama. The President couldn't determine if MMS head Elizabeth Birnbaum was fired or she resigned. Even the Obama bread carriers at CBS were skeptical:
Elizabeth Birnbaum's departure was first reported as a "firing." Later, a "resignation." When asked for clarity, President Obama told the press corps today he had no idea. "Did she resign," asked CBS White House Correspondent Chip Reid. "Was she fired? Was she forced out? And if so, why?"
"I found out about her resignation today," the president answered, "so I don't know the circumstances in which this occurred."
An incredulous press corps followed up.
"How is it that you didn't know about Ms. Birnbaum's resignation/firing before?" asked another reporter.
Mr. Obama: "Well, you're assuming it was a firing. If it was a resignation, then she would have submitted a letter to Mr. Salazar this morning at a time when I had a whole bunch of other stuff going on... Come on, I don't know. I'm telling you I found out about it this morning. So I don't yet know the circumstances, and Ken Salazar has been in testimony on the Hill."
After unequivocally stating that he owned and controlled every aspect of the BP oil spill catastrophe, this President doesn't know if his own Minerals and Management Service Director, which had oversight authority of the BP, was fired or resigned? He found out about it just this morning? What we need to know, actually, is who owns Interior Secretary Ken Salazar: the President or Congress?
Then came this whopper from Fox News about the Sestak job kick back/bribe allegation that simply won't go away:
President Obama said Thursday that the White House is preparing to issue a formal explanation regarding the allegation that it offered Rep. Joe Sestak a job to drop out of the Democratic primary race against Sen. Arlen Specter. The president, addressing the matter in public for the first time since the Pennsylvania congressman leveled the claim in February, said the statement should answer questions about the claim and insisted "nothing improper" happened.
"There will be an official response shortly on the Sestak matter," Obama said, when asked about the issue by Fox News at the president's press conference. "I mean shortly -- I don't mean weeks or months. ... I can assure the public that nothing improper took place."
This form of "I'll get back to you on that" answer is truly outrageous. Even the genuflecting hard core liberals in the White House Press Corps had trouble swallowing that command. Is there anything that this president believes he can't make happen with his ability to turn a phrase and make his listeners disabuse themselves of doubt? As Allah noted, via Breitbart:
"White House cover-up of Sestak job offer not quite finished yet."
What makes me think this inexperienced young President, a recipient of the odd combination of a nation's goodwill and racial guilt, has suddenly found himself wagering greatly on the outcome of one press conference? (That was Charles Krauthammer's point tonight on Fox News) Barak Obama did not have to hold this presser today but he did, perhaps because of a confluence of events that were bearing down on him: the Sestak matter, the BP disaster, his falling poll numbers, the looming 2010 midterms and maybe James Carville's unhinged and unguarded critique of the president this weekend. So why did he do it? And perform so poorly?
This president is not just losing the ideological battle spectacularly. He is being consumed by a tidal wave of events that only an experienced executive can effectively manage. In short, he's in over his head and we will suffer the consequences.

News leaking ahead of President Obamas scheduled 12:45pm Eastern press conference today: the first head has been delivered.
Via AP:
Democratic sources say the Obama administration has fired the head of the U.S. Minerals Management Service in response to blistering criticism over lax oversight of offshore drilling.
The sources, speaking on condition of anonymity before the official announcement, tell The Associated Press that President Barack Obama will announce the decision Thursday.
Meanwhile, there are reports that BPs Top Kill strategy to plug the leak is working:
BP has stopped the flow of oil and gas from a ruptured well into the Gulf of Mexico, a US official told local media.
The companys top kill effort has stabilised the wellhead, Coast Guard commander Thad Allen said, adding that it was too early to declare success.
This is the first step, using mud, in BPs plan to seal the well for good with cement.
Eleven workers were killed in the initial explosion on the Deepwater Horizon rig five weeks ago.

1:00pm Eastern Summary of Obamas oil spill remarks: Bush at fault. Cozy regulators at fault. Solution: More government, no more drilling.
Obama defends his sluggish response by criticizing dumb Americans. Bottom line: You all are too stupid and uninformed to realize that this has been his highest priority and that the White House has been singularly focused on the oil spill.
Obama: Those who think we were slow in our response or lacked urgency dont know the facts.
Thats always his excuse.
Obama writes his own self-aggrandizing history: Im confident that people are going to look back and say that this administration was on top of what was an unprecedented crisis.
1:42pm Eastern. Obama insists he is working with full urgency on the issue, but refuses to take ownership of firing MMS head Liz Birnbaum. He said he only found out about it this morning when he was busy with other things (um, wasnt he singularly focused on oil spill?) and that he is unclear about the circumstances of her stepping down.

Mark Steyn, reflecting on Western folly says that by rights, "Were too broke to be this stupid" , funding one crapola program after the other. After enumerating ever misbegotten program he can think of, Steyn writes:
By the way, where does the government get the money to fund all these immensely useful programs?
According to a Fox News poll earlier this year, 65 per cent of Americans understand that the government gets its money from taxpayers, but 24 per cent think the government has plenty of its own money without using taxpayer dollars. You can hardly blame them for getting that impression in an age in which there is almost nothing the state wont pay for. I confess I warmed to that much-mocked mayor in Doncaster, England, who announced a year or two back that he wanted to stop funding for the Gay Pride parade on the grounds that, if theyre so damn proud of it, why cant they pay for it? He was actually making a rather profound point, but, as I recall, he was soon forced to back down. In Canada, almost every ethnocultural booster group is on the public teat. Outside Palestine House in Toronto the other week, the young Muslim men were caught on tape making explicitly eliminationist threats about Jews, but cmon, everything else in Canada is taxpayer-funded, why not genocidal incitement? Were rich enough that we can afford to be stupid.
But what happens when the money runs out, the check kiting no longer works?
24 per cent think the government has plenty of its own money without using taxpayer dollars.
When Obama came down to Florida to help announce the new Sunrail high speed train between Miami, Orlando and Tampa one local mayor was quoted as saying:
I hope the government will pay for the entire cost of the train so that the taxpayers dont have to.

The unprecedented economic boom unleashed by Obamas debt spending as claimed by Newsweek and Bob Beckel, has slowed from 5.6% in the 4th quarter of 2009 to just 3% in the 1st quarter of 2010. The Stock Market has declined 11% in the last month due to the European debt crisis and Obamas spending policies. These facts dont matter. The media is still pushing the Obama boom theme and it seems to be having an effect. Two months ago the GOP had an average lead in the Congressional races of 3-5%, now in most polls they are trailing the Democrats. Clearly the Progressive medias propaganda is working and the GOP is blowing it by not getting aggressive. The 3% growth is being called healthy in contrast to the Bush years when it was called stagnant.

Energy: An administration never enthusiastic about offshore drilling is using the Gulf oil spill as an excuse to suspend Arctic exploration. Who could've seen that coming? Now we'll be more dependent on foreign oil.
Suspicions in some quarters that the administration was being deliberately lax in its response to the Deepwater Horizon oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico in order to pursue a larger, anti-domestic energy agenda were met with derision. But if not deliberate, the effect is the same as the administration prepares to shut down our search for new oil.
President Obama on Thursday announced a suspension of offshore drilling in the Arctic until the causes and solutions to the Gulf spill are found. Interior Secretary Ken Salazar said in a report delivered to the White House on Thursday that he will not consider applications for permits to drill in the Arctic until 2011. Shell Oil was poised to begin exploratory drilling this summer on leases as far as 140 miles offshore.
The irony here is that it's been the reluctance of Congress and the White House to allow more onshore development of our vast untapped oil and natural gas energy reserves that has forced oil companies such as Shell and British Petroleum to go farther and farther offshore to drill deeper and deeper in riskier waters.
"I am frustrated that this decision by the Obama administration to halt offshore development for a year will cause more delays and higher costs for domestic oil and gas production to meet the nation's energy needs," Sen. Mark Begich, D-Alaska, said in a statement. As with nuclear power, domestic oil exploration will now be consigned to the "study forever, develop never" category.

The revelation is an unsettling reminder of how jihadists are using Americas freedoms and ineptitude of the government to their advantage.
The Investigative Project on Terrorism has found that the Census Bureau has been paying Dar al-Hijrah about $23,000 per month since November 2008 to rent space in one of its buildings. The State Department has used the mosque in its videos about Americas Muslim community and sent students from its Foreign Service Institute to Dar al-Hijrah this month.

Obutthole had fear in his eyes yesterday. Clueless and fearful...someone who is in over their head and has no idea what to do.
Not only does this man of the Left believe what he is saying, but he does it with passion and conviction. Smiley--a so-called Christian--is the product of a liberal education. Liberalism in America has triumphed. Its disciples use the Christian label only for leftist political means. The label is a badge of authenticity and authority in order to destroy the foundation of the structure they claim to live in.
For liberal "Christians" like Smiley, the old America was a concentration camp where blacks, Indians, women, and homosexuals were persecuted, while the America-to-come--always just a little beyond the horizon--is a Marxist paradise or multicultural university campus in which any human being's desires are satisfied regardless of the quality of those desires or his willingness to work for them.
Smiley sees the world through a left-wing lens--not a Christian one. This is the only way one can explain such idiocy. If leftists continue to succeed in maligning Christians and excusing or exalting Muslims, we can only hope that American pop culture and education will destroy the character of their people as it has done to ours.

Record of Previous Answers Says Sestak and White House Are Coordinating In a Lie
Ace
Either Joe Sestak was lying then, or he's lying now.
Comparing Sestak's present tale to the first answers he gave to Larry Kane...
Sestak confirms to Kane that the White House offered him a job, or at least he fails to disabuse Kane of that notion in his affirmative answer. And note Sestak assents that he was offered a high-ranking federal job. Each word here is important. There are more than 60 boards, commissions and committees that at one time or another have advised the president. Most are not considered "high-ranking" administration positions, nor upgrades from a House seat, let alone a seat in the Senate. Besides, though vague on details, both the White House memo and Sestak use the words "Advisory Board," of which there are only two currently active: The Economic Recovery Board and the Intelligence Advisory Board. Sestak is no economist, so the most logical conclusion to draw from the White House memo that "By virtue of his career in public service, including distinguished military service, Congressman Sestak was viewed to be highly qualified to hold a range of advisory positions. . .while holding his House seat" is that Sestak was being considered for the Intelligence Advisory Board. The only problem with that option, as the NYT reported, is that Sestak could not have retained his House seat while serving.
In short, it appears that there is no "advisory position" in existence that Sestak would 1) be qualified for and 2) consider preferable to a Senate run and 3) allow him to retain his House seat. Which brings us to the word "job." Sestak uses it himself, not "position" or "role" or "advisory capacity" or anything else. Federal jobs pay (just ask Derb). Jobs bring clout. Jobs open up, in the language of the White House memo, "alternative paths to service" (read: power) that could give a man second thoughts about a Senate run. Could this just be sloppy language from Sestak? Maybe, maybe not.
Umm... I say no.
Via SorenKay.
Oh Dear:
Clinton doesn't merely refuse comment. He refuses to even say "no comment."
260Slick Willie knows better than anyone it is the stuff that you think is little shit that gets you. Rahm probably told Sestak's brother - You know that Clinton almost got taken down by a chubby blowjob, after getting away with the FBI files, the travel office, Vince Foster, the Rose billing records, and Whitewater. Don't let Joe be Obama's blowjob.
7 The post LauraW put up this morning (about the Denver Post maintaining radio silence on its own story about a Colorado Senate candidate getting a job offer from the Obama White House as an enticement to drop his primary challenge) is also very important. It establishes a pattern, and also demonstrates how the White House could have been emboldened by the lack of press follow-up on that story, enough to feel safe about Sestak.

BP Buses In 400 Fake Workers to Serve as Backdrop For Obama's Fake Photo Op
Ace
Let's all stand on the beach together lookin' like we're large and in charge.
President Obama pauses after burning away
an acre of oil slick with his heat-ray vision.
Perhaps you saw news footage of President Obama in Grand Isle, La., on Friday and thought things didn't look all that bad. Well, there may have been a reason for that: The town was evidently swarmed by an army of temp workers to spruce it up for the president and the national news crews following him. Jefferson Parish Councilman Chris Roberts, whose district encompasses Grand Isle, told Yahoo! News that BP bused in "hundreds" of temporary workers to clean up local beaches. And as soon as the president was en route back to Washington, the workers were clearing out of Grand Isle too, Roberts said.
"The level of cleanup and cooperation we've gotten from BP in the past is in no way consistent to the effort shown on the island today," Roberts said by telephone. "As soon as the president left, they were immediately put back on the buses and sent home."
A pretend army for a pretend president.
And for those of you who doubted Obama's willingness to cut the federal budget: doubt no more.
Three months before the massive BP oil spill erupted in the Gulf of Mexico, the Obama administration proposed downsizing the Coast Guard national coordination center for oil spill responses, prompting its senior officers to warn that the agency's readiness for catastrophic events would be weakened. That proposal is feeding a mounting debate over whether the federal government is able to regulate deep-sea oil extraction. Defense analysts and retired agency leaders question whether the Coast Guard -- which shares oversight of offshore drilling with the Interior Department's Minerals Management Service -- has the expertise and resources to keep pace with industry advances.
Accidents happen, "but what you're seeing here is the government is not properly set up to deal with this kind of issue," said Robbin Laird, a defense consultant who has worked on Coast Guard issues. "The idea that you would even think about getting rid of catastrophic environmental spill equipment or expertise at the Department of Homeland Security, are you kidding me?"
But Obama has to cut things like this because he's so inflated the size of government spending on what are, frankly, secondary and tertiary responsibilities of the government, if at all.
Thanks to Phil for that last one.

Well, we all figured this would be a carefully choreographed photo op for the current occupant of the White House, but little did we know having their boot firmly on the neck of BP meant the folks at BP were obliged to send in some stooges for the visuals.

FASTER, PLEASE: Bodys Own Stem Cells Can Lead to Tooth Regeneration: Work at Columbia University College of Dental Medicine Holds Promise for a Biological Substitute for Dental Implants. Ive got a dental implant, replacing a tooth that was damaged by trauma some years ago. Its fine, but the process was annoyingly lengthy. Id rather grow a new tooth. FASTER, PLEASE: Retina Grown From Stem Cells.
DO WE CLAMP THE UMBILICAL CORD TOO SOON? Delaying clamping the umbilical cord for a slightly longer period of time allows more umbilical cord blood volume to transfer from mother to infant and, with that critical period extended, many good physiological gifts are transferred through natures first stem cell transplant occurring at birth. . . . The researchers concluded that many common disorders in newborns related to the immaturity of organ systems may receive benefits from delayed clamping. These may include: respiratory distress; anemia; sepsis; intraventricular haemorrhage; and periventricular leukomalacia. They also speculate that other health problems, such as chronic lung disease, prematurity apneas and retinopathy of prematurity, may also be affected by a delay in cord blood clamping.
UPDATE: Reader Fernando Colina writes: So this is a case in which you might say, slower, please? Heh. Indeed.
