The laws of physics apply equally in world affairs: politics hates a vacuum. Someone was going to fill it, and it wasn't going to be Kofi Annan. Two years ago, world politics were in disarray. Multilateralists wanted all divide and no conquer, or, they were incapable to conquer. They are all process, and they'd rather split differences in half continually until there's nothing left.
Guess who tried to step in? (And I loved the President's comment on him and his pals, "Theyre no longer a problem to the United States and our friends and our allies...")
As per your report of what the President said today, the United States will not allow empty UN multilateralism to define American interests.
