I'm not posting this because it's the best I've ever seen of the Kilauea eruption, but because in the midst of the unusual activity at Stromboli, I didn't note that January 3, 2003 is the 20th anniversary of the Pu'u O'o eruption of Kilauea. It's interesting to note that although shield volcanoes like Hawaii must build up by long-term ongoing activity like this eruption, this is the longest sustained activity ever observed (in the modern historical era) at Kilauea. And it could just keep going and going and going...
