Yes, We do have to remember how early this report was, and PJ may not have had it completely figured out in his own head yet, how the final edit of even the first film would go. PJ himself spoke clearly on the issue of the scouring later on.

The psychology of Denethor sounds spot on! I most liked the nice report of the wedding of Faramir and Eowyn.

I'm still hoping they'll show Merry, Pippin and Sam driving the brutes from the Shire !! Merry and Pippin need their 'heroic' scenes too!
