Lord of the Rings:
Return of the King!
Pictures, spy reports and spoilers thread (ongoing)
Countdown to December!
Larger version of above image here
Beyond this point there be spoilers!
Like spoilers? Keep reading!
Don't want spoilers? Click HERE and don't look back!
Don't say we didn't warn you! Spoilers are what this thread is all about. So bring your rumors (substantiated or not!), spoilers, spy reports, and bones of contention about them here as the snippets of RoTK news, photos and interviews come rolling in.
I wouldn't even recommend pinging people to this thread unless you know they want to see them. There are a lot of purists out there that hate to have anything given away before the movie comes out. I, however, am not one of those.
I will start a "RoTK spoilers ping list" separate from the other Tolkien ping lists
so let me know if you want to be on the spoiler alert list!" If we use this thread for that kind of stuff, we won't shock people who don't want to see it. (though I bet they look anyway!)
Report 'em if you got 'em!
One tip
.. Don't embed images from TORN (TheOneRing.Net) on this thread. If possible, load the image to another server, or just post a link to the TORN page. TORN's servers are powered by fleas I think, and are horrendously slow, particularly when they have something that is particularly good!

I hope so.
I'd rather have Elrond Bring Narsil than Arwen. It was kind of suggested that he would have something to do with the reforging of Narsil from the fotr EE scene.
Only 190 days!
Waiting for the ROTK EE will be just awful.

Yeah - I think re-forging swords of kings is above Arwen's pay grade too! :~D

My guess--Elrond's taking over the role of his sons in delivering Arwen's banner, and giving Aragorn the "bad news" that Arwen will leave Middle Earth. Of course WE know she won't, but that will add some drama to Aragorn riding into battle with a broken heart.
To: Mamzelle
I never thought of that!!
And it would explain all the weird Arwen stuff in TTT.
If you're right( I think you are) the "meeting" will probially take place sometime after Aragorn and Eowyn depart. Otherwise Eowyn would see Aragorn sad and...

Gamling The Old Confirmed In ROTK6/10/03, 12:18 pm EST - Xoanon
Jesse writes: The latest e-mail update for the Aussie LOTR Convention contained this message from special guest Bruce Hopkins: "Gidday, just a quick note to point out that Gamling is also in The return Of The King. I have just done some filming for the pick ups and have a couple more days to go over the next month. Cheers, looking forward to it Bruce."

re: And it would explain all the weird Arwen stuff in TTT.)))
I thought the discussion between Elrond and Arwen in TTT to be very effective movie storytelling--particularly that wonderful scene from the appendix about her own mortality should she choose to stay in Middle Earth.
If PJ wants to be very nice to his fans, he could film a "appendix documentary" for the extended version of ROTK to include the beginning of the Fourth Age of Middle Earth, and Sam's career as mayor of Hobbiton...the stuff that's in the appendix. With a voiceover narrative, wouldn't be too much trouble...(g)p>
To: Mamzelle
I liked the Arwen and Elrond scene in TTT. What was weird is how she walks off at the end of it, it isn't explained, and one is left to assume that she is going to the Grey Havens.
There will be a TTTEE scene, where Elrond and Arwen are talking about something else, and Arwen possibly goes to lorien instead. There is no evedence either way.
If PJ bes nice to us we be nice to him, Yes precious, we promises not to throw anythings nasty at him. :D

I think we are supposed to believe that Arwen has started for the Grey Havens, because she is going with the other elves in the same direction, wearing the cloak that drapes so perfectly. PJ needs some suspense to this love story, and in the book there was no suspense as to what Arwen's eventual choice would be.
Did you catch Galadriel's line to Aragorn in the FOTREE? She told him she wouldn't be seeing him again. Apparently she'll snub the wedding? But who'll be the grandmother of the bride?

ROTK Trailer: Early July?
6/11/03, 2:25 pm EST - Xoanon
Stian writes: I surfed to (the Norwegian) Cinema movie forums and to my surprise they had an announcement about the ROTK trailer. "We have today been in contact with the distributor, and if everything goes according to plan the trailer for Return of the King(ATTER EN KONGE is the Norwegian title for ROTK) be here in the beginning of July. Trondheim Kino will show the trailer before several movies as soon at it arrives"

How long was it before the TT trailer came out on the interent? Just a couple of days, right? There isn't one movie I care to see (except X-Men 2, and I'm sure it will be out of theaters by then) so there is no way I'm going to the a new trailer in the theater.

On an official trailer, It'll be on the official site probably the same day! The only one that was different was that 4 min preview at the end of the film... That one was intended to be exclusive to the theaters.
