Lord of the Rings:
Return of the King!
Pictures, spy reports and spoilers thread (ongoing)

Countdown to December!

Larger version of above image here

Beyond this point there be spoilers!

Like spoilers? – Keep reading!

Don't want spoilers? – Click HERE and don't look back!

Don't say we didn't warn you! Spoilers are what this thread is all about. So bring your rumors (substantiated or not!), spoilers, spy reports, and bones of contention about them here as the snippets of RoTK news, photos and interviews come rolling in.

I wouldn't even recommend pinging people to this thread unless you know they want to see them. There are a lot of purists out there that hate to have anything given away before the movie comes out. I, however, am not one of those.

I will start a "RoTK spoilers ping list" separate from the other Tolkien ping lists… so let me know if you want to be on the spoiler alert list!" If we use this thread for that kind of stuff, we won't shock people who don't want to see it. (though I bet they look anyway!)

Report 'em if you got 'em!

One tip….. Don't embed images from TORN (TheOneRing.Net) on this thread. If possible, load the image to another server, or just post a link to the TORN page. TORN's servers are powered by fleas I think, and are horrendously slow, particularly when they have something that is particularly good!

I transcribed some of the interview with Peter Jackson. The one where you got those bulletpoints from above:

"The Return Of The King is quite close to the book. There are notable exceptions. The first thing with the Return of the King is that we still have to wrap up The Two Towers. We have the Isengard sequence in -in which they go to Isengard to deal with Saruman who is imprisoned at the top of a tower -which is at the tail end of the Two Towers book. It is now at the beginning of the Return of the King movie.
Likewise, we don't have the scouring of the Shire, which is a major chapter at the end of the book. I have always found that sort of anti-climactic...It felt wrong when I read it, so we definitely don't have that in the film. When the Ring is destroyed at the ring at the end of the Return of the King, that is the real climax of the film.
Those two are the notable major expections as well as Shelob, which is another spill-over from The Two Towers-Minas Morgul, the stairs of Cirith Ungol and into Shelob's tunnel are now in Return of the King. When fans of the book see that sequence, I think they will understand immeadiately how impossible it would have been for it to have been it in The Two Towers film. It feels so right to be where we've got it from a story point of view -for reasons I can't discuss now!
At this point, we don't have Ghan-buri-Ghan...I don't know if this will change with us doing pick-ups, but I doubt it.
Having said that, the rest of the Return of the King movie is going to follow the book reasonably well. What I like about the Return of the King is that the story is the centerpiece of the film, more so than in the first two films...It has a story that unfolds in a very exciting way. I think that is going to make it a very strong film, because you know the places, you know the characters and you know the situation. We only meet one new character, which is Denethor- and he's only new if you don't check out The Two Towers extended cut in November! We're now just simply paying it all off withn a narrative that twists and turns and unfolds in quite a thrilling way."

That's pretty much all the interesting stuff regarding RotK. There's a lot more in the interview, but it's pretty general stuff about the film making and editing process, not worth transcribing.

Thank you thank you! Its only a lowly 13 (I know...we're just youngsters yet...) years. We havent really decided. Erin wants to go the beach, Chief wants to go to the local state park for hiking, and I was thinking NASA. We will definitely go out to eat, but the most expensive things we will get for each other is a brand new watch for me (a marble faced watch) and a new fishing rod and reel for him. The big money we are planning to spend is on a new house, which we will hopefully be in by September.

Right now I am trying to talk him into throwing a party for our 15th...kind of the way WE would have liked to do our wedding reception. We both had to rely on our parents money to fund THAT one, and so we couldnt be as picky and choosy as we wanted.

Thank you for your blessings. God has given us a LOT of His Good Grace. I hope He continues to do so. I need him this year!!! LOL

You may be youngsters but 13 is nothing to sneeze at these days. It's quite a shining example of the way committment is supposed to work. I admire ya'll.

I also think it's wonderful about having that 15th anniversary party. Matter of fact, there is something I really want to do for my brother and his wife this September and I haven't quite figured out how I'm going to do it yet. They will have been married for 25 years!!! YEA!!! They live in Bryan, I am in Wichita Falls but I want to throw them a party in Bryan. When they married they were ostracized from the family for a couple of years. They eloped first because of the horrible opposition and then my parents were really nasty. All those things were said by the family about them never making it etc. AND I always loved my s-i-l from the time he started dating her. She's really stuck it out through a lot as has my brother. I think they deserve a BIG party! And if they're going to have it I reckon it will have to be me to do it. I need to get on this don't I?

Heck YEAH, throw em a party...25 years is DEFINITELY something to celebrate.

My grandparents were married 66 yrs before they both passed away, so I have soemthing to look forward to. We have definitely had our rough periods, but I am very very lucky to be married to the decent loving man I call my husband. He is more than I deserve, I am sure!

oh man...that pic of Pippin was first posted on the khazad-dum forum...and it took forever...I was trembling while waited. That is definitely a picture I have been waiting for.

am going to have it printed on photo-quality paper...

I just hope ROTK doesnt shock me in the same way as TTT did. There were some twists and changes that I was not prepared for and until the Extended version comes out and I can see more of what they had to leave out, the jury will be out on my opinion. I am really not sure I like Jackson's take on Merry and Pippin, although Billy Boyd FLOORS me with his talent. He is Pippin, through and through.
