Lord of the Rings:
Return of the King!
Pictures, spy reports and spoilers thread (ongoing)

Countdown to December!

Larger version of above image here

Beyond this point there be spoilers!

Like spoilers? – Keep reading!

Don't want spoilers? – Click HERE and don't look back!

Don't say we didn't warn you! Spoilers are what this thread is all about. So bring your rumors (substantiated or not!), spoilers, spy reports, and bones of contention about them here as the snippets of RoTK news, photos and interviews come rolling in.

I wouldn't even recommend pinging people to this thread unless you know they want to see them. There are a lot of purists out there that hate to have anything given away before the movie comes out. I, however, am not one of those.

I will start a "RoTK spoilers ping list" separate from the other Tolkien ping lists… so let me know if you want to be on the spoiler alert list!" If we use this thread for that kind of stuff, we won't shock people who don't want to see it. (though I bet they look anyway!)

Report 'em if you got 'em!

One tip….. Don't embed images from TORN (TheOneRing.Net) on this thread. If possible, load the image to another server, or just post a link to the TORN page. TORN's servers are powered by fleas I think, and are horrendously slow, particularly when they have something that is particularly good!

Boromir inherited that bitterness," says Noble. "It's what led Boromir to try to steal the Ring in the first film"

I didn't really get that as a prime motivation in either the book or the film. If it had been, his big rivalry would have been with Aragorn, while actually you can see his respect and admiration for Aragorn growing all along. Although, as Tolkien said, they had not yet become rivals in the wars of Gondor.

I see Boromir as being primarily motivated by a desperate desire to defend his people, not personal ambition. Although there is an element of that there also, which of course the Ring plays on beautifully.

That's the big difference between Boromir and Faramir, who doesn't have that intense desire to shine in the eyes of others. Faramir's desire to help his people is unmixed.

His motivations were mixed. I think his resentment about the lack of permanent status of the stewards was "real".... but I would call it "righteously indignant". His motives were not corrupt, his understanding of what he was dealing with was. He couldn't grasp the unseen. He saw the ring as a weapon, not intrinsically evil. He saw the ring as an inanimate tool, which it really isn't. But his respect for Aragorn did grow, because he was a man, and could see the worth in Aragorn. He just honestly thought he knew better. The temptation of the ring cuts through every heart, and Boromir's heart just had the most fertile ground to plant the seeds of doubt. That is how I see him. :~D

Me too, I like being 'spoiled'.
BTW, do either of you have those nice pics of Treebeard? I've looked all over and can't find them.

"So "Daddy", will the new one's name be "Short Cut"? LOL! "

Actually, the impending bundle of joy (BOJ) has the nickname "Mini Cut", this having been given by one of the fine ladies over at the USO Canteen FReeper Style, where I'm known to visit from time to time.

Mrs. Cut is due to complete the construction phase in early July. We're very excited...it's our first. I got to hear the heartbeat last Friday...how strange that it's so strong so soon. What a moment!

Hair; great job, three and half hours for ROTK, wonder how long the "extended" version will be? That could add up to 10-11 hours for all three. Unbelievable.

I LOVE the part in Shelob's Lair when Frodo uses Earendil. I am so looking forward to seeing this movie (eleven months from now).

I have the feeling, from seeing FotR, TTT, and the special DVD features, and from all the other stuff I've read on FR and the Internet in general, that these actors and actresses absolutely know they are never going to have another filmmaking experience that even approximates "The Lord of the Rings," and somehow, somehow! they wish they could. Sort of like what the filmmaker makes you feel when Dorothy returns to Kansas.
