Hi all,

My job is requiring the relocation of my family to either the Houston or Dallas, Texas area. We'd appreciate your input on the area.

Thanks in advance! Dave & Vicky

LOL I have lived in Houston for 60+ years, that would be just about all my life. I have allergies. I was talking about the weather, you know temperature, humidity, sun, wind, that kind of stuff. Houston has some of the most fabulous winter weather in the country. Clear cool, low humidity, sunny. Where can you play golf in shirts sheeves over Christmas & New Years? We have a very long growing season & wet periods that encourage mold. You had better check your house for hidden mold you might have a very serious problem.

Housing in Plano and Richardson is probably going down due to the telecommuncations meltdown.

Good for you regarding firearms. Without private possession, we are sunk. As for Dallas, I am from Fort Worth and the biggest problem I had when I lived there was sinus. Sometimes Texas weather can get strange and be 25 degrees in the morning and 95 degrees in the afternoon on the same day; but we love it. Regarding Houston, a lot of people who leave to visit relatives, etc. comment on how much lighter the air is everywhere else. Houstonians, this is not slam. I like Houston.

One other thing about weather in Dallas-Fort Worth, it can sleet and ice. That usually happens about now in time for the Fort Worth Fat Stock Show and Rodeo. I haven't seen it happen in Houston, although I hear it does. It does flood here. My husband was coming into the driveway a month or two ago and found himself floating. It was dark and he didn't see the water at the end of the drive. His car did survive. It's a good thing because he loves his car. (A 1996 white Lincoln Towncar) You would have to fight him to give it up.

I am outside *every day* that is not raining or hot. I just came in from a walk. It is FABULOUS outside right now, a little colder than usual, but not damp & not windy.

Being from Fort Worth, you are correct about Dallas. They are much more cosmopolitan than Fort Worth (they think we are common) but we, as well as Houston, have a lot of old money. And the Bass Bros.(Fort Worth)started out as old, being that they are Sid Richarson's great nephews. Dallas is a fun place; but sometimes it's too fast paced. The rivalry was started by Amon Carter, Sr. who also labled Fort Worth as "where the west begins". I believe that honor belongs to Midland-Odessa, since we are pretty east in Texas. Even Dallas is more west than we are. But I like all of them. And they are just as different as they are the same.

I have to ditto the mid-cities suggestion.

Frisco, Plano, McKinney,...North Dallas is like living in the mouth of a traffic volcano.

Grapevine, Flower Mound, Trophy Club, etc. are great areas and you would have easy access to most of the metroplex.

On the other issues I'm not a good source, but I'll vouch for the Flower Mound Grapevine area. It's wonderful.

Fizzy, did you look at the date on the post that you responded to? It is dated January 10, 2003. I don't know how you happened to find it.
