Last evening we had a break from Christmas turkey......we had turkey mole'......at a neighbors home.....I'm still stuffed....hope Roomey isn't hungry.
CNN this morning posted our President Bush as the most admired man this year and 97 the most admired ????? they did not mention ophrey and Laura Bush. Later it was announced that ophrey and Laura Bush were also included as most admired, but Laura was mentioned last. Only CNN, "the most trusted news" HA!

Appreciative
stealth ping response: Feel free to implicate me in any subsequent scorching unveilings of the
beat generation. :)
As simplistic as it may sound, I have always held to the belief that the bottom-line question that I ask myself when attempting to measure the real worth of a person (forgive the possible appearance of arrogance in that consideration) is If I had to choose one person with whom to be marooned on a deserted island, would he/she be on the short list? i.e., does this person possess enough character, depth, ingenuity, creativity, compassion, sense of humor for me to desire his/her companionship in a possibly long-term life-or-death situation?
The prominent members of the beat generation possessed little or none of the above. So your you wouldnt last two hours in the woods really struck a chord with me.
I remember being required to read some of Ferlinghettis (so-called) poetry in college. It didnt take but an instant for me to develop a distaste for this man and the societal squalor that he championed. One of his (so-called) creations that I was required to read and analyze described some sort of destruction (what else?). Cant remember the name of it, but a few of the lines are burned into my brain --
An orchestra on stage in Omaha,
kept playing Handel's Water Music.
Horns filled with water,
and bass players floated away on their instruments.
Cant quite explain why, but I became terribly angry in reading especially that -- even moreso than in reading his other lines of drivel. It seemed somehow sacrilegious that this depraved man felt that he had the right to refer to Handels Water Music in one of his vile rants. Wish I still had a copy of my analysis of his (so-called) poem. As I recall, itd curl your hair.
Thank you for taking us back. We all occasionally need to be reminded of the unpleasantness of a festering wound in order to remember to avoid the dangers of infection.

How's the weather back there?60 degrees yesterday. We were gone all day and I couldn't take advantage of it.
We're suppose to have an even nicer day today. I will definitely get outside to pile more mulch on top of the bulbs. I fear they may break dormancy, especially on the East side of the house, where they are protected.

Amazing weather back there.

George W. Bush Is 2002's Most Admired Man
Man of the Year: George W. Bush
Bush runs White House with few frills
The last article was posted today but isn't new, since I read it in the paper yesterday. Anyway, I got a kick out of a couple of the lines ...
"Bush is said to believe that "Hail to the Chief" was overused for former President Bill Clinton. He has directed the song - played to herald the commander-in-chief's entrance into a room - be reserved only for official and more formal occasions."
Former President Jimmy Carter insisted on carrying his own luggage - a garment bag later discovered to have been empty all along. (emphasis mine! ... what a dolt!)

Long day for me today. The kids and kidlings will be leaving right after dinner ..... and then hubby and I are leaving to go to s-i-l's house (3 hours away). We're going to have a family conference about m-i-l ...... i.e., convince her that only harm will be done by putting off surgery, help her to understand her choices so she can decided whether she wants to have surgery/convalesence in her home town (with not much family close by but lots of friends and her church family) or in s-i-l's home town (her daughter as well as two grandchildren and their spouses and 6 great-grands close by but she knows no one else).
S-i-l is going to pressure her to have it done in Chapel Hill ...... we want to make sure Mom understands the implications of each choice and isn't railroaded. (*sigh*)
She fell yesterday but, thankfully, there was no harm done ...... this time. She was very lucky.
We'll be pretty late getting back tonight so I won't be here until time to cook up breakfast.
Keeping each of you in my prayers!

what a dolt!Yes, this is the guy who fought off an attack rabbit (PETA was noticably silent) with an oar. And was amazed at the public reaction to the "Lust in my Heart" comment.
DOLT is an excellent description.

In re the 'empty garment bag of Jimmah':
How appropriate -- an empty garment bag to go along with the empty suit!!!! ;-)

And the apparently empty soul that was once thought to have substance also.

Trusting that you won't find yourself on a desert island with Ferlinghetti, thanks for the consideration.
You are rightly offended by the rape of Handel. Kings of England have exploited and killed, but it was Wagner's folk who drowned the band at Omaha -- assuming he was referring to the beach, that is.
Ferlinghetti claims he "turned" after walking Nagasaki a few days after it turned ruby green. Please explain to me, Joanie, somebody, why don't these fools write poems about murderers? They've inverted the world, and I can't think but why other than because some people treat their relations worse than they treat strangers. I'd bet the average Ferlinghetti audience has far more "personal" and "childhood" issues than your average crowd at a Fourth of July parade.
It's easier to destroy than to construct. Forgive the platitude, but that's what it's all about with Ferlinghetti. It took a hell of a lot more effort to beat Hirohito than it took for Hirohito to destroy half of Asia. Those two bombs -- America got there first, you dumb ass, Ferlinghetti, and not because America was wrong. And it wasn't easy. No celebration that the good guys got there first? Or, could we have a poem for the atomic bomb in, say, Hitler's toying hands? Or maybe something modern, like how it would feel if tossed about by a certain North Korean half-wit..?
Thanks for your note, Joanie. Not to disturb your peace, but if you ever run across your critique of that poem, let us know. Sounds like fun!
Thanks for sharin'.

Your resolutions sound good to me, particularly the budget, losing weight, and keeping a good attitude. So many people around me are suffering from poor health or disease or they just have lousy attitudes in general. I just want to find joy in everyday ordinary life and be thankful for what I have.
(I also want to be better organized, but that's an ongoing project!)
