Word For The Day 12/24/02
12/24/02

In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of word for the day. Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the word of the day; in a sentence. The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day. The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-) Practice makes perfect.....post on....
Important teacher's notes:
There will be no school tomorrow. Class will resume on Thursday.
If you want to be on the WFTD Ping List, please let me know. I will be taking names all week and adding them to my new list. I scrapped the old list because of concerns raised on a thread about people be adding to lists without asking to be. Thank you for understanding.
And now for today's word....
jocund \JOCK-und; JOE-kund\, adjective:
Full of or expressing high-spirited merriment; light-hearted; pleasant, cheering, delightful
Etymology: Jocund is from Old French jocond, from Latin jucundus, pleasant, agreeable, delightful, from juvo, juvare, to please, to delight.

I agree. Actually what he is doing is a few last minute stocking stuff for the little princess. he gets to deal with her on his own later, so I can have a bit of time to myself!!
She ran me so ragged yesterday that I wrenched my knee and wound up in an ace bandage all night.

Different colored frostings on top of the same store bought dog biscuits do not count as nine different kinds of cookies Have you been peeking into my mother-in-law's cookbook, doubled?

I usually get that way too - for some reason this year time got away from me and so I didn't do any baking. jax thinks that is what we are going to do tomorrow. fine by me, I don't plan on doing much else tomorrow. No big dinner, only occassional drop in friends and family (maybe) - in other words, my kind of day!!!!

Trust me, I do not want anything near my tummy. I have the feeling that anything that goes in will come out quickly.
To: xsmommy
Oh no by jove, memsahib.
I've already been boiling the yams, tearing up bread for dressing, and preparing to inject turkeys for frying tomorrow. I'm only doing four so it won't take long. MIL will be kept safely at bay.

Jack London! A favorite of mine. Have you read his short story Bâtard? Stories of xspup often bring London's short story Bâtard to mind.
To: Bella_Bru
You poor thing, I hate that kind of feeling.
