NEW YORK, Dec. 20 /PRNewswire/ -- Former President Bill Clinton and his wife, Hillary Rodham Clinton, are the top celebrities in the nation's First Annual Tabloid Choice Awards, sponsored by the nation's top celebrity tabloids, National Enquirer, Star and Globe.
"These awards are the ultimate measure of who's been naughty or not so nice," said Steve Coz, Editorial Director of the tabloids. "The editors counted up stories in the nation's tabloids and the Clintons got way more than anyone else this year. Competition from the world of show business was tough, but the Clintons led the pack all the way. The Clintons can't stay out of the spotlight and readers just can't get enough about them."
The full rundown on the Awards will be in the editions of National Enquirer, Star and Globe coming on newsstands this weekend.
The Star said the Clintons got the top Tabby "for demonstrating that power really is the greatest aphrodisiac ... and for staying together in spite of it."
Latina celebrity Jennifer Lopez was second in the Awards. The Enquirer said that J.Lo's "rocky love life put the tabloid spotlight" on her and asked, "Is she happy with new love Ben Affleck?"
Songbird Britney Spears came in third, the Star noting that while "she supposedly was a good girl saving herself for marriage," revelations "about her romance with Ben Affleck" show that "Britney has left her innocent past behind."
Former Michigan Girl Madonna came in fourth, the Enquirer noting that while "the Material Girl has a new baby, a new man in her life and a new home in Britain ... what she doesn't have is a hit movie."
Comedian Rosie O'Donnell came in fifth, the Star awarding her a Tabby " ... for the star who could fit Lara Flynn Boyle and Debra Messing in her sweatpants ... and enjoy it."
Honorable mentions in the Awards went to runners-up Julia Roberts, Oprah Winfrey, Ben Affleck (purported boyfriend of No. 2 winner J.Lo and No. 3 Britney Spears), Tom Cruise, Halle Berry, Gwyneth Paltrow, Jennifer Aniston, Eminem, Michael Jackson and Calista Flockhart.
The top five winners will receive awards from the tabloids to mark their distinction, Mr. Coz said. [wish I could see hillary's face when she receives hers!] Link
Murray said in a statement Friday that Vance and other critics were twisting her words.
"Having a challenging and thoughtful discussion about Americas future reflects the best values of a free democracy; to sensationalize and distort in an attempt to divide is not," she said.
Murray's spokesman, Todd Webster, called the senator a victim of a right-wing media machine.
"This is being turned into a circus by the right-wing media outlets and fed by right-wing haters," Webster said.
Asked if he included Vance in that category, Webster said, "Absolutely. I include Vance and the right-wing media and the right-wing establishment." For the rest of the story
