Exactly. If Don Nickles is put in as ML, then they will attack him for his voting record. This Lott situation is a lose-lose situation. He stays, there are problems, he goes, the attack dogs move on. I know that some people view politics as a game, but somehow the phrase "Nero fiddled, while Rome burned" comes to mind.
On another thread I saw where someone suggested that President Bush address the nation on the racial issue. I actualy think that is a good idea. I noticed that when he talked to the people in Philadelphia the crowd (mostly black) was quite receptive and believed him.
I am thinking that we will get such an address after Christmas, with all the hypocrisy on both sides discussed. Then, perhaps, we can finally begin to deal with this issue honestly.
At any rate, if the President does that, it would remove the issue from the table, and whether Lott goes or stays would be immaterial.
