AMERICA - The Right Way!! (Day 697) [Remember the Trade Center!!]
Various News Sources and FReepers | December 18, 2002 | All of Us

We will not tire, we will not falter, and we will not fail! [President Bush]

Good morning!! Do not let the victims of the attacks on New York and Washington, nor the brave members of our Nation's military who have given their lives to protect our freedom, die in vain!!

In response to the 12,000-page Iraqi declaration, one unnamed Administration official has termed the report "an incredible joke."

Senator Lott vowed to fight for his position as Majority Leader. New GOP elections are set for January 6 in the Senate to decide the matter.

Hitlery is likely to get the position of the Criminal Party's Senate Steering Committee - a group in charge of positioning Senators and the party as a whole for the 2004 election cycle by shaping the attack lines on the GOP.

The United States is concerned the situation in Venezuela could deteriorate rapidly. Already, crude oil prices are back over $30/bbl.

France claims it has arrested three men who plotting a WMD attack using either chemical or biological weapons.

MacDonalds is expected to post its first quarterly loss in its history.

And British meteorologists claim that 2002 will end up being the second warmest year worldwide since records started being kept more than 140 years ago. (Of course, this would require readers of the UK Independent to accept there are both records for everywhere in the world and they have been kept for 140 years.)

For AMERICA - The Right Way, I remain yours in the Cause, the Chairman.

Lott doesn't need any votes to become ML. He already is ML-elect. If someone wants to depose him, that is, to keep from happening what has already happened, then that someone needs all the votes, including Lott's to do it. It would be like a "confidence" vote in Parliamentary systems, and would be highly irregular in the U.S. Senate.

This is media-generated hype to get people to think that the Republicans can still decide what to do with Lott. Furthermore, if it were a simple election, Lott would have no excuse to resign office. If he is deposed, that's another matter. That's the card he holds.

When nothing happens -- i.e., Lott remains ML, the media will scream, "See! See! The Republicans are racist since they elected Lott ML." Guess what: the Republicans already have elected Lott to ML. They don't want us to know this.

The issue should be should the party REMOVE him, not ELECT him. The media are liars.

Good luck. I applied for the job just to see where my skills are, not realizing I might actually GET the job.

I have a question. If the Republican senators refuse to pay attention to Lott, how much power does he have? In other words, what actions in the Senate would he control without the confidence of the rest of his peers? I know that he schedules floor votes and apparently appoints committee chairmen. What else does he do?

In other words, can he end up as ML in name only?

Re-read the news articles. No one's saying it, but there is no scheduled election of the Speaker. It already happened. Lott's website makes that exceedingly clear.

Actually, Lott's website is anything but clear on the subject because it comes from the target of the issue himself. Thus I can hardly conclude that his personal "official" website is going to contain the answer to this that can be considered definitive. Instead, what Senator Lott's website gives me is the information tha Senator Lott decides is appropriate for his webpage. Senator Lott has decided there won't be any mention of any "elections" other than those for the procedural positions of the Senate. Senator Lott has not, however, stated on his web page that there wouldn't be other votes on leadership positions.

Frankly, what I surmize from news articles is this:

The Republicans have not, on December 18th, figured out exactly what it is that they want to do. There is a growing consensus - this is the term that is used in media stories I have read today - that Lott is a liability. This would suggest movement toward a consensus, but that it hasn't been reached.

That said, you have this from Sen. Hutchison (R-TX), Conference Vice Chair:

Republican senators are working all over their states during December, and we have not had the opportunity to come together to discuss the developments on this issue. I believe the matter to be vitally important for all Republican senators to discuss as a group, and the need for a meeting is clear.

Senator Lott has apologized and is doing everything he can to make this situation right. This meeting will provide Republican senators the opportunity for a full and open discussion about Senator Lott and his ability to lead the Republican majority.

And this from Sen. Kyl (R-AZ), Chairman, Republican Policy Committee:

Put yourself in his position: You've just been humiliated by the media, your opposition and now your colleagues, but they want you to hang around to make sure they still have a majority. It's hard to make it work that way.

These are not statements of people who think the issue is foreclosed.

That would be an absolutely horrendous proposition.

The issue should be should the party REMOVE him, not ELECT him. The media are liars.

I won't dispute the last sentence, they usually are.

They did, however, report the fact that Senator Lott was elected Majority Leader when the Party caucus was held for that purpose. I even remember seeing it in the Pravda. It just wasn't highlighted because it was, well, yawn! Seriously - who would have thought anything else, so it didn't rate much print space.

I guess, for me, it is in what context the term "election" is being used. I read it as "contest." And if it comes to pass there is a vote taken among Republicans on Lott's future, that surely becomes a contest. So I didn't have a problem with the word "election," but that was because I passed it through the prism I just described.

But the sheeple probably didn't, so you have a point.

Oh, boy. Look at the time. I'm late getting out of here. This has been a good discussion (which is why I ran long here), but I've really got to go.

Later.

As soon as the dims see it is over and if he stays it is over, no more will be said.

I think it is time now for them to jump ole little dickie g., he as been courting the same group as Lott is suppose to have befriended. Think we will here anything? Think about it, they can get rid of a presidential canidate, he is no longer speaker, it would be his death blow.

I am not proposing it...just asking if that could happen. The last thing we need is 50 senators going their own way on every issue.

I missed your comment before on your daughter's surgery! I am so sorry...I didn't read your post until I traced it back after I read kassie's comment.

I will keep her in my prayers. Please let us know how she is doing as soon as you can. I have one daughter, too, and she means the world to me, so I know how you feel.

It stands to reason that Carville would be deep in the fray and would do his "thing" on Crossfire. However, this morning on the radio Melanie Morgan said that she had researched how the buried story - unnoticed by the press - had suddenly become so hot. Her research indicated that Sidney Blumenthal, a Clintonista, had started hyping the story on the internet - which is where the media finally caught up with it.

So, if that is true and Carville was the next one to really hop on the band wagon, it seems there has to be some Clinton tweaking going on.

I heard that also by Mickey Klaus of Slate magazine. I just found the transcript where Carville said something, he really goes ballistic ("Strom Thurmond -- what is it that makes -- why do all of you conservatives like segregation? Why do you want to return to it?"). It was still a couple of days before it really hit the fan, but Carville started the ball rolling in the TV media. Thanks for the info, as I stated to the Chairman above, this has the Clintons' fingerprints all over it.
