Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Journey to the Cross-roads
The Two Towers Edition
Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

I'll need to go back and check.

I teared up when in Helm's Deep Aragorn told the young one there was always hope. That scene, along with the women and children listening to the tramping sound of the coming horde, was chilling.
And, Gollum, ugh, I didn't feel as sorry for him as some here. But I was mesmerized by him. He was as mesmerizingly eerie a character as I've ever seen on film.

...what can we say?How about "the fix is in"?
Anyone know how closely the Academy mirrors the Golden Globes?

I picked February because that is the date I have heard that we will have everything in place. Of course that may be disinformation and for all we know everything is in place now, and that's why we have declared the material breach now.

Yeah. The sword the boy carried was the same one Aragorn has discarded earlier as trash. The blade was nicked and jagged.
Yet, Aragorn grabs the sword, gives it a few swings and announces "This is a good sword." Very noble. In the face of what appears to be certain death, Aragorn still finds the courage to rally a child's spirits and ease the unimaginable fright.
I put myself in the shoes of the mothers in the caves, naturally. How terrifying to be holding your children near and hearing the pounding from above. And the explosion! Never before heard to them! *shudder*
Not only that, but because of Theoden's fraility under Saruman's spell, these people were used to a meek and sullen albeit quiet life with little experience in the ways of war and bloodshed.

I thought that Eomer and Eowyn were cut too short. I wanted to see more of the Riders, myself. Soo little time, I know, and a proper presentation of those characters, and others, could take 6 not 3 hours. But, it reminded me of the scene in that Chevy Chase vacation lampoon when he walks up to the Grand Canyon, nods a head, then turns and leaves. 'Here are Eomer and Eowyn'. In 3 hours you got a lotta stuff though.

Sometimes very closely... sometimes not at all. The difference is at the Academy peers vote and at the Golden Globes the foreign journalists vote. In the past, they have voted for some weird things - stuff that only wins Golden Globes and nothing more.
The score is an outrage... and so is no nomination for both Viggo and Andy Serkis.

I didn't notice that, Ruthy!! About the sword!
I gotta go see this movie again!

You may be right. My opinion is based on what I hear others say... since "W" doesn't call me personally and inform me of what is going on. Wish he would though.

Aragorn looks at it and tosses back into the pile at the armory. It takes place just before the conversation between Aragorn, Gimli and Legolas when Gimli says "Most of these men have seen too many winters" and Legolas chimes "Or too few."
That is, if my memory serves. :)

Thanks OT!

Yes, everything you say makes perfect sense to me. Intellectually of course. It's one of these irrational gut-level reactions that I'm trivelling over, not a critical turning point of the film or anything.
Interestingly, the person with whom I attended the midnight showing was a co-worker who teaching animation and graphics. He has never READ the books (although his mother was Tolkeinite enough to give him the middle name of Lorien.) His take on the movies, is something completely different than mine - understandably I guess. He sees the films as a whole entity and artwork in themselves apart from literature. I have found it interesting to listen to his reactions. We view this whole epic from totally different perspectives.

Got it... read it... loved it...tonight, the last two churches. I know that we've been very ameny (another word I just made up)in all our letters, but all that's about to change! LOL! We will get down to brass tacks and all that good stuff... then the real learning beings. Annee lomehdet!

I'm taking off now, not feeling too well. If anyone thinks about it, could you pray that we find our dog? She got out yesterday when we had company over and has been gone since yesterday afternoon. The kids are devastated.
Thanks, see you all tomorrow.
Oh yeah........308 HOURS TO GO!!!!!!!!

Feel better!
To: ksen
Get better quick, Kevin!
And I'll pray for your dog too. I hope she's found. Maybe someone picked her up and has her in their home. Did she have a collar on?
To: ksen
Good grief Kevin... I pray your dog is found safe in someone's care! Call and describe her at all of the animal shelters, and leave your number in case she turns up later... Check the Lost and Found pets section of the paper... and flyers in the area with a picture would help!
