Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Journey to the Cross-roads
The Two Towers Edition
Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

I don't know what the long term effects of pop in one's brains really is... I am getting better... But I am imagining a headache in my future.

Hi Sam!

Hey Corin, I found a story about Nathan Bedford Forrest that reminds me of that scene in TTT in which Legolas gets pulled up on a horse during the warg attack:
"The trouble was, he was charging by himself; the others, seeing the steady brigade front, had turned back and were already busy gathering up their 43 prisoners. Forrest was one gray uniform, high above a sea of blue. 'Kill him! Kill the goddam rebel! Knock him off his horse!' It was no easy thing to do; the horse was slashing and kicking and plunging and Forrest was hacking and slashing; but one of the soldiers did his best. Reaching far out, he shoved the muzzle of his rifle in to the colonel's side and pulled the trigger. <
The force of the explosion lifted Forrest clear out of the saddle, but he regained his seat and sawed the horse around. As he came out the mass of dark blue uniforms and furious white faces, clearing a path with his saber, he reached down and grabbed one of the soldiers by the collar, swung him onto the rear of the horse, and galloped back to safety, using the Federal as a shield against the bullets fired after him. Once he was out of range, he flung the hapless fellow off and rode on up to the ridge where his men were waiting in open-mouthed amazement."
True story, Battle of Shiloh, apparently.

HA! Don't know!

That is the copy I have....

Hi, 2J, sounds like you guys' movie watching is kind of interactive!
To: Sam Cree
Interesting story.
I don't think Gimli meant to use Legolas as a shield...

We had such a great day. It was so warm that the boys played outside all day in tee-shirt and shorts! Steve and I tidied the garden, getting it ready for an early spring crop of radishes and snow peas. We also got the birdhouse finished that the boys helped Steve make. I'm downloading pictures now.

LOL That would be one word to describe it! We have a good time, though...only once has Matthew ever not wanted to go to bed and that was the other night when he came in after seeing Signs and said "To tell you the truth, I don't think I should have watched that movie, Signs." I just sent him back to bed, but let him keep his door open where he could see me in here.
Joshua never misses a wink. He's always out before his head hits the pillow, no matter what he watches. He is a hard-playing kid!

"To tell you the truth, I don't think I should have watched that movie, Signs." Just give him a glass of water to put beside his bed.

These were taken right after lunch...they still have their sweat pants on in them...but they ultimately had to get rid of them for shorts and went barefoot. It actually got hot!

Was the shot in the head a suicide? I don't remember. I vaguely remember the boy talking to the Haley Joel Osment character about getting his Daddy's gun. That's why you need to see it first, so you can make those determinations.

True story, Battle of Shiloh, apparently. We went there in 1992 for a tour of the Battlefield. It was so fascinating. The Park Ranger was very knowledgeable, not only about the battle but about anecdotes like that one!
