The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Journey to the Cross-roads
The Two Towers Edition
Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

I DON'T think they were playing backgammon.
Looks like maybe they had advanced to Trivial Pursuit.

I'd spam but I'm having ISP problems... takes forever to get the page to load in the first place. Good luck though.

Actually it's a Stormhands family joke. I didn't really have an Aunt Fanny.
I DID have a Great Aunt Zenobia. She was married to Great Uncle Wirt. (this is SW Virginia remember).
So for years in the family, something would come up and I'd say "I had an Aunt Zenobia" which evolved into things like:
I had an Auntie Bacterial
I had a Auntie Pasta...
etc.
When Jr. was about 8 he picked up on it and would chime in "I had a Great Auntie Bacterial..."
It has a tendency to be a bit bizarre at times. But that's no surprise to anyone around here.

I only say that because I once dated a girl that *could not* say two words in the english language. She had some kind of mental block. She simply would not form the words. You could hold her down and tickle her for hours (OK, not that you would, but I would and I even tried this technique once) but she still *would not* say the words "fanny" or "underpants". Not ever. Not if her hair was on fire. Nothing doing.
She was a big fan of South Park. I gave her no end of aggravation over the "underpants gnomes".

Pardon me? Why?
Have you thought about checkin' out what's goin' on with your sister over at the Backgammon Inn?

Have you thought about checkin' out what's goin' on with your sister over at the Backgammon Inn? Oh heavens no. Not me. There are certain things in the world that I simply choose not to know.

Lessee, there was Uncle Basil.
'Course the weirdest one was a great Uncle. His given name was Ernest. But he had been in the Navy.
So they called him "Uncle Seaman"
I actually sang at his funeral.
To: Ramius

Hhehe... yep... that would be it.
It made for hours of entertainment at her expense. I never did get to the bottom (so to speak) of the phobia, but I did find out in the end (so to speak) that immersion therapy had no clinical effect.
To: Ramius
Well, wasn't she also kinda weird about Mayonaise?
