The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Posted on 12/17/2002 7:32:02 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Journey to the Cross-roads

The Two Towers Edition

Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)

Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

Well, you do have a point, I don't have a big hard drive by today's standards, but I also don't know how to install a new one.... would take a favor from one of the two computer geeks in my life, one of whom is not in my time zone, and the other who it takes a fire to rouse..... it is only 19 GB - I am down to 13 GB used..... and I am running out of useful room that I could gain. It's the games now.... and I have deleted all but the worst offender.... Unreal Tournament.

Hard drives are cheap these days - and pretty easy to install. You could probably do it on your own with the instructions they include, or we could talk ya through it.

Thanks! But it would be hard to talk me through it when I would have to talk to you through this one!

Scary!

I am doing OK - I just thought my computer was getting groggy lately, and I am hoping that running leaner now and defragging tonight will help it. What I really need I think is more ram... This computer used to be impossible to slow down, but now if I get too much going on at once I have been locking it up.

Then they left again.

Well, I'm back.

Had to drive home, cook-n-clean, and finish sewing a skirt for my stepdaughter. Very productive evening thus far.

Of course, productivity will come to a screeching halt now that I'm freeping again

I haven't been very productive. Sigh. Took pizza to my little sisters, who complained they had nothing good to eat and they had a friend over, came back here and IMed with my friend for an hour or so, and now expecting a phone call. Not very productive. But nice. Too bad the house is a wreck.

Yes... so I see. Housekeeping is always good.

It is true, though, that hard drives are getting pretty cheap anymore. though, it sounds like maybe you're after a performance improvement rather than just disk space? The defrag is a good thing for that. Also clean out your systray and get rid of anything that you absolutely can't live without.

Maybe, but I would rather just have fun..... I can guilt Ramius into my upgrade on less valuable time. :~D

Did someone say "palindromes"? How about this one:

Doctor Reubenstein was shocked and dismayed when he answered the ringing telephone, only to hear a strange, metallic, alien voice say, "Yasec iovn eilacilla temeg! Nartsa raehoty lnoenoh pelet gnig, nirehtde rewsnaehn ehw. Deya! Msid! Dnadek cohssaw nietsne buerro, tcod?"

get rid of anything that you absolutely can't live without.

That was the plan.... danger is in looking at all these little programs that I don't even know what they do!
