The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Posted on 12/17/2002 7:32:02 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Journey to the Cross-roads

The Two Towers Edition

Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)

Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

I said I was "glad I had not been offered the Ring" and would prefer to marry and was very surprised when Eowyn's lovely face appeared.

Elfdom.....sigh.....that's what I get for not wanting anything to do with the Ring.

No, never.

I would never see you as an elf.

But if I find a pair of those pointy shoes anywhere near your room in the Hobbit Hole, all bets are off!

Being an Elf is marvelous! Think of all the chemical things you can learn as an immortal!

You will never find them near my room. Besides, pointed shoes scrunch your toes up. Maybe Elrond's shoes are pinching him.

Could probably learn more as a wizard...immortality in this world is a curse!

Nah... remember, it took Gandalf 17 years to research the Ring?

Probably because Gandalf was associated with a university. If he were doing R&D with a private company, it wouldn't have taken so long.

Minas Tirith U?

Quite. And that must be where Saruman comes in. The way I figure it, Saruman was the department head and followed Gandalf's One Ring reasearch closely for 17 years before he got impatient and cut Gandalf's research grant. It was then that Gandalf, sensing that danger was near and that he was on his own, made the breakthrough in determining that Bilbo's ring was in truth the One Ring.

I'm afraid to tell y'all what I came up as....

Oh all right. First two times, with different answers.....EOWYN! Now, I love Eowyn and all - she is truly wonderful, but I am male, so I had to keep trying, right? ;^)

Third try, slightly different answers again, and.......CELEBORN! Yeeecchchh! Right gender, but...... well, I guess I can live with that. He comes off a lot better in the Extended version.

As far as that goes, the elves in general have redeemed themselves in my eyes. I even forgive Haldir all his former snootiness. He died nobly serving men well, with nary a girly scream....and I shed a symbolic tear for him...

I don't know if there is enough Metamucil on the planet for our friend, Elrond, however.... ;^)

CONGRATULATIONS G'NAD!

". Are you anywhere near Melbourne or Miami? "

I'm in Jacksonville. Just saw TTT again last night, MUCH better experience. Better sound quality, too, since the theater was digital-equipped.

What are the chances of you and Mrs. Long Cut making it to Miami on 1/25? I live in Palm Bay, and we're going to visit with RMDupree and Sam Cree to watch the movie together. 6 hours is kind of a long way to drive though.

We are having a get together in Melbourne/Palm Bay for the RoTK in January 04. Hopefully you and the Mrs. could make that trip.

Hi Vim! So nice to see you!

I had no problem taking the test and arriving at an elf-free answer.

Certain individuals appear to be in denial of their "true" race. heheheheheheeee...

Maybe that's why Corin isn't here yet. He probably got Elrond as his answer and is in mourning. :)
