Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Journey to the Cross-roads
The Two Towers Edition
Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

Thank you Corin! I have brought along only a few
mathoms this time, to help us feel at home in our new thread as we get on our way, in this Journey to the Cross-roads:
Thanks for the smiles... My fellowship has split up and gone off hunting orcs, Soldiers are preparing for war and I am desperately worried about Frodo and Sam...

Tolkien on moving in:
Frodo looked round. It did look like home. Many of his own favourite things - or Bilbos things (they reminded him sharply of him in their new selling) - were arranged as nearly as possible as they had been at Bag End. It was a pleasant, comfortable, welcoming place; and he found himself wishing that he was really coming here to settle down in quiet retirement.
Tolkien on new names and places:
There was some discussion of the name that the new row should be given. Battle Gardens was thought of, or Better Smials. But after a while in sensible hobbit-fashion it was just called New Row. It was a purely Bywater joke to refer to it as Sharkeys End.

And finally, Tolkien on starting out on new journeys:
The hobbits' packs were brought to them (a little heavier than they had been), and also two stout staves of polished wood, shod with iron, and with carven heads through which ran plaited leathern thongs. 'I have no fitting gifts to give you at our parting,' said Faramir; `but take these staves. They may be of service to those who walk or climb in the wild
a virtue has been set upon them of finding and returning. May that virtue not wholly fail under the Shadow into which you go!'
The hobbits bowed low. `Most gracious host,' said Frodo, 'it was said to me by Elrond Halfelven that I should find friendship upon the way, secret and unlooked for. Certainly I looked for no such friendship as you have shown. To have found it turns evil to great good.'

Yes, it looks nice. I am happy with it. Hope you like it here!
It is Two Towers Day and I am a little nervous!

Only nine posts in, and I'm already on janitor duty.

Please direct 2Jedismom and me to the medicine cabinet.

I know how you feel (kind of, maybe you're more crazy than me)!
I'm going to be all a-twitter when I get up on Saturday morning, knowing I've got to wait until noon.

FREE REPUBLIC In a surprise move noticed by almost no one, the regulars at the Hobbit Hole at Free Republic moved suddenly to a new thread Tuesday. The Hobbit Hole, inhabited daily by an eclectic mix of hobbits, dwarves, men, elves, a beorning and one ent, had grown to monstrous length, leading some to wonder if it may in fact implode under its own weight.
Some of posters there rarely go anywhere at all, preferring to discuss news and events with each other, and harmony is almost always enjoyed. A few adventurous folk do wander out on occasion, often returning quickly, having found the outside world to be inhabited by even weirder people with bad tempers and poor manners.
They seem very reluctant to leave, once settled back in familiar surroundings. Talk of moving to a new hobbit hole was met with resistance, some preferring to stay put. Saying things like "I like it here!" and "Let it implode" and "Have some spam". And then, one morning, they all just quietly packed up and moved. Anyone who noticed would find that unusual indeed. Something is most definitely happening.
The Hobbit Holers, (don't call all of them hobbits or they will sharply correct you!) are not known for much at all. They seem to enjoy good conversation, particularly talking about things they have talked about already. You will not find a friendlier place in all of Free Republic, if you are a friendly sort yourself, of course.

Well... TTT got their first offical nomination as best picture of the year. AFI has named it as one of the best 10 movies of 2002. The Two Towers along with The Gangs of New York are the 2 top movies, and now TTT gets to compete to see if it is the best picture in January at the annual AFI award ceremonies.
To: carton253
I'm standing by my prediction: TTT will be considered the greatest action/adventure movie of all time.

Welcome!
Did anyone see Elijah Wood on Jay Leno last night?
I fell asleep.
