The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Posted on 12/17/2002 7:32:02 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Journey to the Cross-roads

The Two Towers Edition

Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)

Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

Hobbits and dwarves are my cup of tea!

I could look into Sean Astin's eyes and melt away. I'd drown in Elijah's and pass right out looking into Billy's or Dom's.

But one word from the mouth of that Gimli and all others are forgotten. Dwarves have- hands down- the toughest personalities of all races. I like that. No wishy washy, "I'm so scared" in-touch-with-their-feminine-side types for me.

It's amazing how much I learned 25 years ago by arriving first and making coffee that has served me well over the years.

I haven't EVER thought of myself as that stereotypical feminist career woman type. I took a few years off and raised kids and then cried when I had to go back to work. But, I've never focused on job primarily.

It's nice to be able to be of help to other people in general. i.e. make some coffee. run a few errands. Consequently after a few years, I received quite a few notable awards and recognitions in my field of which some other women have been envious. But, while they were worried about being mistaken for slaves, I was making coffee, or picking up a mess, or some other thing like that - that wasn't really in my job description. Can't get it across to 'em though.

If you aren't ready to wear a zillion hats, you aren't ready for most jobs.

Exactly. When I first went to work in D.C. even though I was doing policy stuff, I learned to do everything. Now, I'm the only male in the office that can figure out how to clear a copier jam. (and I don't leave it for the secretaries)

I can see that with Gimli. The hobbits don't do much of anything for me. Sorry. They just look so awefully young even though we know the true age thing.

And, I guess I'm a little taller than most women. I kind of like a male to be taller than me. It's rare enough without figuring hobbits and dwarves in to the picture. But, I expect I would love the shire. I can get into growing food and eating it and not much else to do.

It's Grima. I kept thinking all through the movie that Jackson could've played the role...without makeup...

Besides, I'd rather drink my coffee than have to choke down their stuff!

Wow! We're a lot alike.

I really wanted to stay home too, but couldn't. At least I have a no/low stress job that doesn't fuel my desire to kill someone. LOL!

The coffee thing is something that a lot of companies ask you to do, just to see if you are a team player. They use various personality tests also to be sure they aren't getting someone with a lousy work ethic.

If your coffee ain't strong, say so long.

If your coffee is weak, don't bother to speak. :)

Hehehe....I actually did a VOA analysis on coffee one time. Did you know that it foams when you purge it with nitrogen?

Where?

Melbourne, FL.

That is where we are having our Entmoot for the release of RoTK. As many as possible will get together, watch FoTR and TTT and then hit the theatre to view RoTK.

We'll also eat ourselves silly, visit in person with each other, and some will go about and do the Florida tourist thingy, or just hang out on the beach.

I think we've got the date nailed to the week and/or weekend of Jan. 5-9, 2004. So start saving your pennies. ;^)

Yes, I've been going along here thinking how much alike we sound.

I think I may have found a relatively low stress job - for me - in this college teaching atmosphere. Some students still sometimes need to be strangled. But, now I'm able to walk out of the classroom and mark 'em a low grade!!!! Bwaaaahaaaahaaaahaaah

I also inform my students of company's many tactics on checking out personalities. They give me all the discrimination speeches etc. I tell 'em they better grin and bear it, Texas is a right to work state and they'll get fired (or not hired) in the blink of an eye for that attitude.

"...figure out how to clear a copier jam. "

I've had people comment on what a wonderous mechanic I was because I take out the jammed paper! (shaking head sadly and in wonder)

I hope you didn't share your secret that the directions are on the inside of the door...

Wow, that sounds like fun. And by then I'll have no kids left at home. I'm already booking plans for the no-kids at home time.
