Tee hee, Trent looks like a sissy cowboy!!!
How's your m-i-l doing? And your husband and his sister? I'm praying for you all. :)

I have tears in my eyes from laughing at that silly picture!

Dog, you can buy wasabi in a tube, just like toothpaste. In fact, I think you should use it for toothpaste and instead of rinsing, you can just swallow.

My phone book was delievered a while ago ..... by someone who not only placed it on the porch in front of the door but rang the doorbell before leaving. Just thought you'd like to know that you're not the only conscientious phone book deliverer. Ours has usually been left by the mail box. We don't live in a rural area with a loooooong driveway though ...... I think it was smart of you to start doing it that way in that situation.
I must say that I wish this person had been just a little less considerate. I had just come home from being out all afternoon. I was checking the gazillion voice mail messages (business and personal) and trying to find out if hubby made it to Wilmington ok (he did) and if any catastrophes had befallen us when the doorbell rang. And I got downstairs in time to see the van driving off and to find the phone book at my door. Next year (*snerk*) don't take up the practice of ringing doorbells.

Lott has the ultimate threat, resignation. At this point he has nothing to lose. Do you bet your all against a player who has nothing to lose? If you win, he loses nothing. If you lose, well, you both lose, and only one of you is happy about that.
I agree with Common Tator that the stakes here are huge. CT says that Lott's ego is the most important factor. I'm not sure I agree, for that assumes that Lott wants or will be forced out. I say he stays. If I'm right, than it has already been arranged.
The President's hands are tied on this one. He can come out in full defense of Lott, and thereby give critics something else to complain about. He can damn Lott publicly -- note that he criticized the statement, not the man -- and merely score points for the Left. General condemnation and silence on the specifics are his only options. Leadership will come of a steady hand.
Otherwise, the weekend noise is fading. A mild backslap is quieting the howls. Even the (com)Post published a letter today that admonished those that would associate Republican politics with racism just because of Lott's statement. George Will made this point today, as well. It will get quieter as we approach Christmas.
We shall have the added, longterm benefit of a clear demonstration of the emptiness of Democratic hysteria. I liked the President's speech from Philly, btw. It was consistent with the situation, consistent with his past statements, and consistent with his Party. If Lott stays, the Party will have to swallow hard. At this point, the President should step in and make a statement of support. He ought demand that Lott provide the Maalox.

Good points, all. I'm hoping the buzz is starting to die down, that it has peaked already. Lott does seem to be a decent sort of man, he saw first hand the debacle of Jeffords leaving the Republican party, and hopefully, he will put some other things ahead of his own ambitions. We shall see in the next few days.

Hubby made it to Wilmington ok. Right now his mother is doing a little better. It will be a couple of days before the results of the MRI are back but the doctor gave her a prescription for a morphine-derivative. She's been insistent that she didn't want any narcotics but there are some decisions that are going to have to be taken out of her hands ..... she's simply not exercising good enough judgement ....... *sigh*
Hubby will probably stay through the end of the week. Then, depending on how things are going, I will probably go down there Saturday and we will try to get Mom to my s-i-l's home (which is about 3 hours both from here and from Wilmington). We're not happy about taking her out of town (and all her doctors and medical records) but she cannot be left alone right now. This would give us time to consider other options.

Hugs to you too. :) Are you left alone running the business? Good luck, my thoughts are with you.

Hey kayak, God bless you and your husband. Prayers for you all that you'll be able to handle everything and find God's grace in it all.
Glad you got your phone book. I knocked on a few doors early on, but it seemed kind of rude to knock and run. I saw more of those phone books lying open in the driveway and it just made me mad to think of the jerk who is collecting money to throw phone books out the window.
I gotta run and take one more load of stuff to our new place. Hopefully we can start putting stuff away tonight and tomorrow as it's a jumbled mess right now.

I'm off for the evening! Dinner and a concert in Salt Lake City (Kurt Bestor.) Hopefully the weather will cooperate. Talk to you all later...

Well, we've sort of got a triumvirate running the business right now ...... hubby via long distance; the new operations manager, who is good but hasn't been with us long enough to know even a fraction of what he needs to know ..... but is reacting wonderfully!; and me. I know the office end of things but not the "production" part. As long as things are routine, we'll be ok ..... it's the emergencies and unusual circumstances that can come up that could cause real problems.
I've been telling hubby for a long time that he carried too much info in his head and now it's biting us, BIG TIME. If this had happened even a month from now it wouldn't be as critical because the new manager should be up to speed by then. But right now it's quite stressful for all of us.
I have to run over to Charlotte for a while now (lepton, if you're lurking, that's a figure of speech ..... I will drive the car) ..... back later.

Lott does seem to be a decent sort of man...
What he said was tactless and asinine. We need to ensure we don't lose the war for this stupid, useless and entirely unnecessary battle. The war is the Courts. Too many judges at stake, which means that the future of the country rides on it.
If keeping Lott as Majority Leader is what is needed to replace four SCOTUS judges, so be it. Let's not lose sight of the endgame. I'd rather be called an idiot, a racist and a hypocrite than lose the Court.
Sorry, but this reminds me of another Taft quotation. On leaving office, he told a reporter,
I have succeeded in securing the adoption of a new set of rules for equity proceedings in the United States courts. I hope to be able to secure new rules to govern proceedings at common law and if I succeed in my efforts in that direction I shall have accomplished more for so-called social justice than all the hollering and hysteria of the professional reformers could achieve in a thousand years.
Later, he added,
The thing that is mentioned least is the thing in which I take the most pride... Six of the nine Justices, including the Chief Justice, to-day bear my commission. And I have said to them, Damn you, if any of you die, Ill disown you.

Oh Yeah, the tractor I went and looked at? TERRIBLE looking, didn't even get out of the car, turned around and came home. What kind of tractor are you looking for? A small Utility type? Even used, those are probably pretty pricey in Acrageland. Have you considered looking at a larger model, with more hp than you really need? It's possible you could pick one of those up for a song.

Would you believe the Chamber of Commerce has asked if they can use our house for next year's Christmas dinner and style show? I've printed some of the snowflakes to use for next year's extraveganza. I'll enlarge the prints and have some friends over for a cutting, gluing and sparkle sprinkling luncheon sometime before then. We'll hang the "snow flakes" from the beams in the living room and sprinkle some around the ceiling of the basement.

Wow, tillacum, you are planning a year in advance!! Some days I don't know what I'm doing in the afternoon! LOL!

I bookmarked the whole sheebang. Gonna see how many the ladies can make.
To: Miss Marple
I do that too, MM. Dip it in the sweet and sour then into the mustard. I LOVE IT.
