Limbacher says Hillary's behind the Goron's withdrawal from the 2004 race, thread here.

Glad you're home safe and sound, IG. Do tell us tales from the capital!

The WashPost (Howard Kurtz) weighs in on Albert Jr.'s decision:

Maybe he didn't sell enough books. Or maybe he wasn't funny enough on "Saturday Night Live" (though we loved the scene with him and Joe Lieberman in the hot tub). Whatever the reason, Al Gore pulled the plug yesterday, pleasing Lieberman (who now gets to run), a large swath of the Democratic Party and, it must be admitted, the pundits, who were groaning at the prospect of a rematch against Bush.

.... Why did Gore, who after all won the popular vote two years ago, pass up another race? He told Stahl he had "come to closure" on the fact that he'll probably never be president, and that a rematch "would inevitably involve a focus on the past." But on some level he may have been facing reality. The combination of the post-9/11 climate and the feeling that he blew a great opportunity in '00 would have meant a tough time taking on a popular Republican incumbent.

Maybe that's why Gore seemed so loose lately. No matter what Gore did, the press kept accusing him of reinventing himself. Maybe this is the ultimate reinvention: a career politician deciding to have a life. Now they won't have Gore to kick around any more. ...

Hillary has been much too quiet lately. My gosh, the machinations that must be going on in her inner sanctum. And speaking of the hideous Clintons:

GENEVA -- Former U.S. president Bill Clinton joined actress Sophia Loren this weekend to narrate a recording by a Swiss orchestra, newspapers said yesterday. The weekly newspaper Dimanche said the recording project of the European company PentaTone was "top secret," but that Clinton and Loren read different passages as Kent Nagano conducted the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande.

It appears to have been connected with a project announced in October by the Russian National Orchestra, which said Nagano would make a record of Tchaikovsky's Peter and the Wolf for PentaTone with Clinton, Loren and Mikhail Gorbachev as narrators.

Clinton, in Geneva about 24 hours before he left yesterday, also gave a speech on the search for peace in the Middle East, the newspaper said.

The Zurich-based weekly SonntagsBlick said it had learned Clinton would be the top guest at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, next month. He attended the annual Alpine gathering of government and business leaders three years ago when still president. source

This must have been prior to his Rotterdam speech in which he claimed he gave the North Koreans the "what for" over their nukes.

I STILL cannot find a pic of flubber in the tub - I thought the net would be lousy with them by now.

Just saw one, JL. Wish I hadn't!

Ewwwwwww! I caught a glimpse of that wretched event on TV last night, just awful! Big Al, you looked and acted gay!

On a happier note, HGTV had a special on this year's Whitehouse decorations, as well as the VP mansion's.

Mountaineer, I have a french dessert question for you. What is the dessert that has round pasteries stacked to look like a Christmas tree, and then has honey or sugar syrup drizzled all over it? I knew at on time, but that info has left my brain for some reason.

Do you mean a croquembouche? I've never tried one, but believe you can do them with little cream puffs; I also have a recipe for a chocolate truffle croquembouche.

The first one was chocolates, here's a pastry version.

Here's the cones for assembling the goodies.
Different sizes available.

In other food news, in the "don't try this at home" category:

ANKARA (Reuters) - A man was killed and nine people were injured on Saturday when gas used to artificially ripen fruit exploded in a Turkish market, police said. Erbil Esmer, 36, was killed while shopping for bananas at a fruit wholesaler in the northwestern city of Balikesir, a policewoman said.

"A spark caused the gas used to (ripen) bananas ... to explode," she said. Nine people were treated in hospital for injuries from the strong explosion, she said. Several buildings and vehicles outside the market were damaged. link

More on J-Ho:

While out promoting her latest movie, Maid in Manhattan, Jennifer Lopez admits that before she got the role of a housekeeper she ignored domestic workers and looked the other way. Now she claims to have seen the light. But has she really changed her diva ways?

J.Lo recently told BBC Radio 1 that she was humbled by playing a maid and promises to be more human when she stays in hotels in the future: "It did make me realize, you know, when I was staying in Philadelphia, I was like 'Hey, hello' to the maids and to the other people working in the hotel. The concierge and all the people I would usually rush by. Because it does give you an understanding. I'm like 'stop for a second and say hello to these people,' you know what I mean. It was a good experience." Stop the presses! She actually said hello to people? Wow.

.... While she now claims all of this compassion and understanding for "domestic help," this is still coming from one of the biggest known divas in the business. She may smile and giggle sweetly in front of the camera, but behind the scenes nobody tops her.

Just some of her previously rumored demands include ... a minimum 250 thread count on sheets, Body Shop body butter available to her at any given time of day, burning candles in her rooms, a pricey fragrance sprayed into her path as she walks, her coffee stirred counter-clockwise, and accommodations for an entourage of up to 60 who cater to her whims.

But nothing could compare to J.Lo's behavior in December of 1999 when she and Puff Daddy were picked up by the police following a shoot-out at a New York nightclub. StarsOnline.com reports that a "tantrum erupted and hysterics ensued, not because of mistreatment by police but because they were holding her without access to her 'cuticle cream.' To remedy this life-threatening, earth-shattering situation, an officer was sent on a mission to procure some cuticle cream and Jennifer was duly calmed." So yeah, I'm sure she knows exactly how hotel housekeepers feel. MSN

J-Lo must have had Hillary-like epiphany concerning domestics. Does anyone remember Rush making fun of Hillary's idiotic statements about cleaning staff being people too some years ago?

I saw an ad for her little maid movie several weeks ago, lovely dialogue. She is in the park and almost sits down on a magazine that has her love interest on the cover. I think the brilliant line went, "Oops, I almost sat on your face."

Charming.

I happened to be flipping through the channels on my way to the Whitehouse Christmas special, and she was being interviewed on E! I loved the explanation for her failed marriages: people just grow apart, things sometimes just don't work out, sometimes you just have to move on, other people get in the way, etc. In the next breath she was babbling about honesty and integrity.

Uh-huh.

Anyone seen her new video? She's on a boat in a bikini and Ben kisses her butt. I laughed so hard I almost fell of the sofa, what class!

Hiya, back to you. I'm a busy bee with all the holiday prep, parties and school activities. Tonight we have a choral concert, then I have a garden club party to attend. Tomorrow the kindergarten classes will be going to a local rest home to perform Christmas carols, and tomorrow night a program will be held for the parents.

Glad to know mini is now staying with you.

Hi, T, nice to see you. Sounds like you'll have a nice full house for Christmas! I'm glad to hear miniT has made it back, and hope all the legal wrangling works out in her (and her little boy's) favor.

pubmom: I saw that J-Lo video. Poor Ben looked like a fish out of water. He probably was aiming elsewhere for that kiss but couldn't avoid her bootiliciousness.

Phone Woes Update.

My new phone number was supposed to be activated today, but alas it wasn't. So at 2:30 I called the phone company to ask when the phone would be turned on. They couldn't even FIND THE ORDER!! Oh my heavens. This couldn't possibly be happening. The respresentative said that she couldn't even find the new number, but that my old number should be working ( it wasn't). She also said that I couldn't get the new number that I was assigned. After 45 minutes of this crud, she got Terri, the account specialist.

Terri said that they had to work on my account because my phone never should have been turned off, and it would take a couple of weeks to connect a new phone. She then figured out that if I would accept having two seperate accounts, instead of my home and computer line on the same bill, I could get the new number hooked up on Thursday.

She also gave me $10 off per month for the next year, and $25 off my first bill. I can also possibly get back my original number that I had for 10 years, next month.

What a hassle. I have enjoyed the peace and quiet, and since no one will have my new number, I am sure the house will be quiet for a long time.

I will update on Thursday to let you know if I have a phone.

Hey there, girl. I've missed a whole week, so I don't know why you're trying to get a different phone & number. Things used to be so easy,,, but that has changed. Truth be known,,, I suspect they only have to flip a switch, but they want to punish us for somethin'.
