Well, I saw the press conference, and I watched the various threads on FR.....which eventually became a blood bath. I think that this apology was a lot better than the previous ones, but he went on far too long, and began to run off his mouth, in an attempt to look better. He had to deal with a Sharpton disruptor towards the end of the press conference.

I'm really torn by this whole thing, for I've never liked Trent Lott, nor have I thought he was a good spokesman for the party. But there are a majority of Republican Senators that continue to vote for him as leader. The Senate will always mystify me, I've become convinced.

I can't see that calling for him to step down as leader would accomplish anything, but caving into yet another RAT attack.

I just checked the answer: Good King Wenceslas. That's what first came to mind, but I rejected it because I don't understand how despot fits in there. King Wenceslas was benevolent, but certainly not a despot (like his brother).

You know, you can really increase your speed if you lower your quality. Today I was delivering phone books next to another delivery area and noticed that theirs were all in the middle of the driveway, many of them in puddles. I've been taking them to the doorstep as we were instructed and with the big yards and long drives here in rural Tennessee, that's just too much trouble. Besides, everyone seemed surprised to actually have someone deliver it to their door and my parents said they've never yet had one delivered to their door.

So this afternoon I got Mrs. Mulliner to drive and we whipped through a pretty good-sized area as I dropped them off precisely (or approximately) below their mailboxes. Wow! We made good time. And in the few places we had to go to the steps, I had daughter #2 run a few up while I did some so we got even more done. We've now done over 400 books and I hope to get another 250-300 done by noon tomorrow and let someone else do what's left over.

I got a little frustrated while I was out on my own today and pulled too hard on the inside door handle. It came loose and now is kind of a pain to open. Not a good thing.

I finished grading all papers and assignments today, then calculated all my students' grades and recorded them. I then said my goodbyes to my colleagues, at least those who were around.

Gotta brag a little. One of my students from Uzbekistan e-mailed me last night to turn in a paper he had forgotten to give me earlier. He said (and I hope this wasn't just flattery), "You are the best teacher I have known."

I spent 5 hours at the high school today rehearsing for the Monday night choral concert. For a public school, they are doing a surprising amount of Christmas music. The director is hoping he doesn't catch any flak. The kids certainly don't seem to mind.

He said he & the band director get a memo from district headquarters every year cautioning them to use restraint in their choice of music and decor; even trees and wreaths are now considered "religious symbols" and are, if not taboo, actively discouraged.

I am back from the play, it was great and you know, tears swelled up in my eyes for some reason, what can I say. I am waiting for Hollywood to call any minute now, a Star is Born. Her NaNa would have been so proud of her. I know I am.

You belong here, you sound like you are one of us cause we do all those things every day when we log on. Tell me, how about you family, how many kids do ya'll have, me, my wife died two years ago, retired law enforcement, a GREAT PawPaw, moving to the farm soon I hope.

Oh, I am so glad! Don't you love seeing those children at Christmas? It puts me in such a good mood!

We are getting a lot of wet snow here. Got in fom shopping and I can't seem to get warmed up.

Inflation has hit the Christmas tree market. I usually get a 10-foot tree, but this year there were few tall trees, and the ones they had left were $150.00!!! Yikes!

We bought an 8-foot tree which was much cheaper, and Mr. Marple said he would bring in some cement blocks to elevate it (we have a cathedral ceiling).

Oh yeah, I told her I would take her where she wanted for something to eat, PIZZA she said right off the bat, waiting for them to call me when they get finished cleaning up the school.

LOL! And there is always one who is REALLY enthusiastic and practically screams!

I used to direct a children's choir at church. My main accomplishment was getting them to stand still and not make faces! Ha!

They were picking their nose, twisting and turning, puncing each other when it was time for them to sing, it was great. They get on one line in the song they really know and they scream it.
