Quick start. Ice storm. Already lost power once and don't know how long it will stay on. Up to 1/4" on trees.
Pushing........pushing.............
...ORANGE NY- ...THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE CONTINUES A WINTER STORM WARNING FOR FREEZING RAIN THROUGH THURSDAY MORNING...
RAIN ASSOCIATED WITH A LOW PRESSURE CENTER APPROACHING FROM THE SOUTH IS EXPECTED TO CONTINUE INTO THE OVERNIGHT HOURS. AS TEMPERATURES REMAIN AT OR JUST BELOW THE FREEZING MARK...THE RAIN ASSOCIATED WITH THIS LOW IS EXPECTED TO FREEZE ON CONTACT WITH THE SURFACE..PRODUCING A SIGNIFICANT ICING EVENT. THE NORTHERN AND WESTERN PORTIONS OF ORANGE COUNTY ARE MORE LIKELY TO EXPERIENCE THE SEVERE ICING. AS A RESULT...THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE HAS ISSUED A WINTER STORM WARNING FOR FREEZING RAIN.
WEATHER CONDITIONS WILL IMPROVE BY LATE THURSDAY MORNING AS THE LOW AND ITS ASSOCIATED PRECIPITATION PULLS AWAY FROM OUR REGION.
ALL TRAVELERS AND MOTORISTS IN THE WARNING AREA SHOULD START PLANNING FOR THE LIKELIHOOD OF FREEZING RAIN. REMEMBER THAT IT DOES NOT TAKE MUCH FREEZING RAIN TO CAUSE SOME VERY SLIPPERY ROADS AND DANGEROUS DRIVING CONDITIONS.
FORECASTERS WILL BE MONITORING THIS WEATHER DEVELOPMENT CLOSELY. PLEASE STAY TUNED TO NOAA WEATHER RADIO AND OTHER LOCAL MEDIA FOR FURTHER DETAILS OR UPDATES.
The air over large bodies of water is warmer than air over land. There is also evaporation from the water; so the air becomes saturated (warm air can hold more moisture than cold air). As that air mass moves over land (and the colder temps) the moisture is squeezed out of the air and falls as snow ...... LOTS of snow. The heavy snowfalls are always downwind ..... where the air is moving from the water towards land.
When it's cold enough that the Great Lakes (or whatever body of water) freezes over, then the snake-effect lows end for the season. I would guess that the Great Salt Lake would not freeze over, or only do so in an extremely cold winter, so that it would cause snake-effect lows all winter.
Lemon Bars
2 cups flour
2 sticks butter
1/2 cup powdered sugar
Mix the ingredients together until crumbly (the mixture should come together when it is pressed). Press into the bottom of a 9" by 13" pan. (The original recipe recommends putting foil on the bottom of the pan, and then greasing the foil. I use those Silpat liners. These bars get really sticky.) Bake at 350 degrees for 20 to 25 minutes, until the mixture is pale brown. Remove from oven.
3 cups sugar
Juice and grated zest of 3 lemons
6 tablespoons flour
6 eggs, beaten
1/4 teaspoon salt
Mix the sugar, lemon juice, and zest together. Add the flour, mix, then add the eggs and salt. Mix until smooth. Pour over the crust. Bake in a 350 degree oven for 40 minutes, or until the middle is set. Cool. Sprinkle with powdered sugar. Cut into squares. Enjoy.
A guy who was nowhere near the play at the time..........
Well, we'll see how it all shakes out when the refs hand out the fines. And since Sapp didn't get even a slap on the wrist for injuring a guy who BTW has yet to walk unassisted, I will be amazed if they fine Edwards for making a hit on the ball-carrier during a live play.
But stranger things have happened, I guess.
It's only so that those nearby know who it belongs to and that it's not going to go visiting anyone else - at least in those quantities.
I think the "wind chill factor" is ridiculous.....most of the time. But when it's in the 50 to 75 below range, I think people need to be aware of it. It scares people into dressing for the weather, knowing that frostbite could set in within seconds.
I'm gonna call you something in about two seconds...........
He shocked the socks off of me one day when I had him at the doctor's office when he was about 2 1/2. The nurse said something about the thermometer ..... and he piped up that it wasn't a thermometer ...... it was a therbabyter! He was quite insistent that since it was being used on the 'baby' it couldn't be a thermometer.
When his sister got home from school, I handed the instrument to her and asked son what it was ...... he quickly replied that it was a therpameter.
