Download
MailWasher [freeware]. Install it and configure it to read your mail.
Before ever opening Outlook, use MailWasher. It "pre-screens" mail before it actually downloads it to your system. You can, thus, weed out potentially harmful emails.
After you get MailWasher running, have it get mail from your normal Outlook source (your mail server). Use MailWasher to delete the offensive email.
Note: This will only help on future emails. [I habitually run MailWasher before ever opening Outlook to get mail.]

After you fix your email and run your anti-virus program, I recommend you only open emails through a third party server. I have Earthlink and they have a webmail server and its very easy to use. There is no need at all to risk another virus infection. All ISP should provide this type of service free of charge (included in ISP fees). Also, you may access your email from any computer safely.

Downlood Outlook 6 and Internet Explorer 6 from Microsoft (it's free) and install it. (Back up valuable data files first, as with any major install operation.)
Next, there is a setting that you can change, I believe in "Security", to force HTML e-mails to display as "Text Only". HTML e-mails may contain executable code, this setting prevents the code from executing.
Also recommended is the setting to prevent potentially risky file attachments (.exe, .com., .bat., .doc etc. files) being transferred from Outlook to any directory on your computer. When you receive a file attachment that you expect from a known correspondent, turn off this setting so that you can save the file attachment.
Good luck!

Just curious, are using the full Outlook or Outlook Express?
POP mail or an Exchange Server (Corporate Workgroup)
We've installed the security patch from MS on our full Outlook and it prevents the behavior you describe.
Registered, I'm interested in your patch also?

If you can access it through Outlook Web Access, delete it from there.

My favorite bit of Outlook humor is when someway commented a year or so ago, during the Foot and Mouth disease outbreak in the UK.
They said that F&M disease couldn't possible be a real virus, because Outlook hasn't caught it yet.

Sounds like you have the klez virus. My advice to you is to go to symantec.com, download Norton anti-virus and then download a file called "fixklez". Norton won't fix the klez virus, but it will protect you from others. The "fixklez" file should take care of your current problem, though.

Call your ISP and ask them to delete the message from their server. This worked for me when I had this problem a couple of years ago. And if they won't do it, or keep you on hold forever, get a new ISP (but not Earthlink, as it's a Scientology controlled company and I don't think you really want to be giving money to that outfit).

Highlight three e-mails--the one before, the offending one, and the one after--by clicking on the one above and the one below (while holding down SHIFT). Then hit the red X DELETE button.
