Now, the cleanup. More than 1.5 million people remain without electricity in North Carolina this morning.

Algore visited China recently, and it is believed he was paid to speak at a communist government-linked think tank. People could pay 50,000 yuan to get their picture taken with Algore, or 100,000 yuan to buy conference sponsorship packages.

Algore claims he was paid by BusinessWeek to attend the event: "I can tell you specifically our contract says DnmStrategies for BusinessWeek," says Jano Cabrera, spokesman for Algore, as reported by Drudge.

Drudge also reports that Nancy Sheed, spokeswoman for BusinessWeek, says: "This was not an official BusinessWeek-sponsored event. We did not pay any of the participants in the event. We did not pay any of the speakers at the event. BusinessWeek was also not aware that anybody had been invited on behalf of BusinessWeek to speak at the event."

Algore also attended an informal lunch on November 18 with approximately 30 members of the Asia society, sponsored by Hong Kong chairman Mr. Chan. Chan was an independent director of ENRON. Algore knew of Chan's relationship with ENRON because a source said he "told him before we went into the lunch."

Algore may be the master of reinvention, but he does not seem to have reinvented his pechant for Chinese money.

You haven't been on these threads. I am not concerned with understanding why these people post this garbage; resentment of other groups has a long history in this country. Advocating violence, racial and ethnic slurs, and religious slurs are not normally considered acceptable discourse, and that is what I am trying to address. I cannot make people like Hispanics, and I wouldn't even make the attempt to do so.

However, I resent very much the posting of these over-the-top statements and then, when I object, I am called silly, unpatriotic, and uncaring about national security.

Hi Janey, I haven't been "on" these threads either although I've read a few posts that made me very wary.

I agree with Mr Mulliner and what he is saying about understanding. But I also understand your concern and frustration. Being patriotic does not mean advocating the destruction of any one group of people's living in this great country. Nor does it mean favoring one group's needs over the other. And for years, in the name of political correctness, one group or another has been favored over another. So what is the solution, in your opinion?

I was staying at the Courtyard by Dulles Town Center the night of the "blizzard of '02" (LOFLMCO!). The next morning, I got in the car and drove into work at Reston via Rt 7 and the Reston Parkway. There was a guy with a Floriduh license plate driving 15 mph in the right lane with absolutely no one in sight ahead. I shifted lanes and passed him and then got back into the right lane. He goes sailing past me in the left lane, does a quick slide/skid and bango...back into the right lane...15 mph!

When I drove past him, he was holding onto the steering wheel so tight that I believe he left fingerprints through his gloves!

By the way, I just finished my last class of my last course in my MS in Systems Engineering! Three years but it is all done!

Well, I don't know. It seems to me that posts that advocate violence shouldn't be allowed. It seems that there are so many anymore that the moderators only delete the worst.

I also think that stopping illegal immigration doesn't require hating Hispanics or other groups. And I don't think the answer to radical Islam is to nuke Mecca.

It is getting so bad over there that you can't have a rational discussion.

Hi, Jane - it seems to me that everytime we get some national exposure, i.e., the Rush recognition, we get an influx of folk who confuse us with a different type of conservative or right-wing chat room. They bloviate for a while until we set them straight and then they leave, get banned or learn to express themselves more appropriately. I can think back to the early winter of 2000 we went through exactly the same thing. And THAT was pre-cheesehole days, LOL!

I am not particularly tolerant, and look at all of them with a high degree of suspicion after 9/11.

However, I do understand that the President is trying to keep moderate Muslim nations on board and also trying to forestall vigilanteism in our country. I think people refuse to understand the PRACTICAL reasons for his statements...and also I am sick of the anti-immigration people who never have any responsible solutions.

Well, enough of my ranting. I have to go to the grocery and I am delaying it because it is so cold outside and I HATE going to the grocery. So, I am drinking a cup of de-caf coffee and trying to warm up before I leave.
