Watching TWC a few min. ago, the winter storm guy was saying y'all would definitely be getting the high end of the " estimate...so that was about 6" according to them.

And it looks like as usual with these kind of storms from the south, we're just n. of the snow line....

I am predicting 7". Let's see how it stands up.

Baseball is in deep trouble, but Bud Selig is not the only party responsible. What is really the problem is the fact that the owners have overpaid for so long that it's no longer economical for a family to take a trip to the ballpark. The players don't help themselves by their spoiled, conceited attitude either. Lou Whitaker was a legend to Tigers' fans, but he destroyed that relationship when he with a few pigheaded comments directed at those same fans during the nuclear winter of '94.

The NBA is headed in the same direction, I believe. When Michael Jordan finally does retire after this season, the face of pro basketball will be who? Shaq, a headcase with a bad toe that will probably end his career early? Allen Iverson, a street thug? Kobe Bryant, a spoiled brat? There's no Larry Bird or Magic Johnson waiting in the wings to revive the league like they did in the 80's. And it's already started: like baseball, the TV ratings for pro hoops are sliding. The Hornets may be living it up now, but they're going to discover a harsh reality in a couple of years: New Orleans can not support two professional sports franchises(it can barely support one). And when the $%#& hits the fan as far as where hardpressed fans are going to spend their money, the Saints are going to be the ones who win out. Outside of the city, folks around the state could care less about basketball, but we love our Saints(except for the few Cowboys bandwagon folks, but thanfully, they've gone back into the closet the last few years).

IMHO, one of the reasons hockey is becoming so popular around the country is because of the workman-like attitude of the players. The humble, "I'm just happy to be here" attitude appeals to fans(yeah, the fights too), and the game means more to them than being on the Forbes 500 list. Likewise the owners have made the effort to keep themselves under control as far as player salaries and making the game affordable to the average fan.

Now, as to football, I do believe it has replaced baseball as the national pastime, but they do need to do something to get rid of the bad apple segment of players. Players names belong on the sports page, not the front page for assault and battery, drug use, or in one extreme case, murder. Thanks to Michael Jackson, Jerry Jones is no longer the creepiest looking man on Earth, but a he few other owners do need to remember that fans don't pay money to see them stroke their own egos.

/end rant

Be careful, those things can start a nasty fire..

I am a culinary professional. Snerk! LOL!

Yes, they can, but I have a mark for the oil level for several sizes of turkeys. And we'll have fire extinguishers. grin!

I very much agree with your assessment about pro sports.

I don't blame baseball's problems on Bud Selig. They've been developing for a while, certainly much longer than Selig's been in a position to do anything about them. But the very fact that NOW is the time to make some changes, and NOW is the time when he is in charge, makes me hold him responsible for the future of the game.

Call me crazy, but I liked Bart Giamatti as a commissioner. He had so much love and respect for the game to do any harm.

Right now half of baseball's allure is its history. The shake up that baseball is trying these days is actually shaking it loose from its history and that will eventually come back to haunt them.

I completely agree with you about the need for sports to police their players. The NBA is the worst. When most of the players have tattoos and piercings and father about a dozen children in various cities, they have got to be losing fan appeal. The NFL better keep their eyes open and do something to keep a few people off their rosters who will otherwise become a cancer to the game.

Have you guys been blanketed? or do you still await blanketing?

I don't know how to read snow-storms from radar images. It never came up, for some reason. T-storms, yes. S-storms? No. grin!

Global warming is just beginning to enter the Washington DC metro area from the south and from the west. The closest point to "white" is still about 20 miles from the cottage.

It looks like it will start at about 12:30 AM.

Actually, it's magic.

Seriously - there is absolutely no difference between an image that is snow and an image that is rain (except snow echoes tend to produce lower dB levels than rain, so they will be mostly blues and greens (greens are heavy snow rates) on the NWS shots they put on the web. Sometimes there will be a yellow, but that's rare, and usually in a blizzard.

So how do I - or anyone else for that matter - know it is snow and not rain?

I guess. But with a little help from nearby station data as to whether the surface temp is above or below 32, and reading the forecast discussions for the affected areas.

Otherwise, there isn't any way to tell.

Sounds like you guys may have a snow day. As I recall, you have all the preparedness gear to help out your family and neighbors. Thank you for that. Too many conservatives don't prepare for life's little bumps.

It's time for me to call it a night. God bless Deej's family and her father this night. Give them strength and relief.

God bless us all. Each, and every one.

I'm back from the church dinner. A good time was had by all. Dinner was good, but ordinary (roast beef, potatoes and gravy, corn, rolls, and salad.) The program was lively, my favorite part was the four piano rendition of 'Carol of the Bells'. It was spectacular with eight people playing. I sat by a family with five children, all boys, ages 2-14. The requisite glass of water was spilled, the centerpieces were eaten (they were made out of red and green tootsie rolls, peanuts, and candy canes.) Their two year old was fascinated by the peanuts, he would dunk them in his glass of water, and then carefully place them back on the table. Cute, cute family.

Hi, Utah Girl. I'm probably headed off to bed in a few minutes, but just wanted to share something with a fellow Red Dwarf fan: "Oh smeg indeed me laddo", said by 2nd Technician Arnold Rimmer.

Deej, so very sorry for your loss.

How wonderful that you were able to let your father know how much you loved him and to be with him to the end.

Prayers for you as you give a wonderful rememberance for your family.
