Dominatrix pleads not guilty in client's death
Reuters News Service
DEDHAM, Mass. -- A dominatrix pleaded not guilty today to charges she chopped up a client after he died of an apparent heart attack during a bondage session, and then dumped the body parts in a trash bin, court officials in Massachusetts said.
Barbara Asher, also known as Mistress Lauren M, was indicted by a grand jury in Norfolk County, Mass., on charges of manslaughter and unlawful disposition of a body in connection with the disappearance of New Hampshire resident Michael Lord.
Asher pleaded not guilty to the charges during a brief hearing in Norfolk Superior Court, court officials said. The Quincy, Massachusetts, resident was released on her personal recognizance.
If convicted of both charges, she could face up to 23 years in prison.
The Boston Globe and the Boston Herald reported that police determined that Lord visited Asher immediately before he disappeared in July 2000.
Asher told police that Lord died while he was bound and wearing a hood, the Herald said.
Prosecutors said Asher said she panicked and called a friend who helped her cut up Lord's body and dispose of his remains in Maine, the newspapers said.
Lord's body has never been recovered.
Asher's attorney, Kevin Reddington, was not immediately available for comment.
