I made the horseradish salad last year and it was a huge success. This year I'm not contributing anything to TG dinner, as my mother insists on doing the whole thing herself, and I'm all at loose ends! The day after TG I'm riding in my first parade on behalf of the Republican party, but I may throw a dinner together for my in-laws on Saturday.

I'd be at loose ends, too, if I were told not to bring anything. I mean, what else do you do those few days before Turkey Day???
As for the parade....hope you're practicing your wave:

Well, that's helpful, but I doubt the weather will permit me to wear what those girls are wearing! (On the other hand, it might bring the whole thing to an abrupt halt). The main thing is to exercise self-control while tossing candy to the gathered throng of parade-wathcers, as I might be tempted to zing Tootsie Pops at their heads, being the mean-spirited Republican I am.
To: mountaineer
No, as a mean-spirited pubbie you'll have to snatch away from the kiddies all the candy they caught from the car in front of you. (And give some dog food to the old ladies while you're at it!)

The old ladies around here don't have to eat dog food. There's plenty of road kill.

You owe my client a new keyboard :)

It's snowing here. Last night it was 65. Go figure.
I thought roadkill was an Arkansas delicacy - isn't that wear Rottenbottom gets her make-up techniques?

Did anyone watch David & Liza on LKL last night? I was watching the 'beast on Puffball so missed the return of the Rocky Horror Picture Show on King.

I briefly viewed it, then could stand no more. Hillary was on one channel, Larry had the freaks, and Puff Daschle was on cspan2. If I had watched any one of them for long, I would need a jumbo-sized dramamine.

I watched the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show so I could make out my Christmas List. I think I need wings. 20 foot wings.
I saw Liza and David on LKL. Bless her heart for adopting older children, and I was really touched that she wants a family to love, but those are some really strange folks. Let's hope it lasts, I wouldn't want to have to hear her regrets over marrying a gay man for the second time.

I've wanted to brine a turky for quite awhile. I may do one for Christmas. I saw Ming Tsai brine a turkey in the out of doors, he used an eclectic mix of spices and herbs. The big thing in Utah for Thanksgiving is to deep fry the turkey. The men gather round and talk about the equipment they have at home to deep fry the turkeys and trade war stories about the event. It is a very male activity, no women or children allowed. :)

I saw the preview for Liza and David on LKL! Did you watch it?
To: Utah Girl
It is a very male activity, no women or children allowed. :)...and the problem is ???
To: Utah Girl
If you brine the bird it may shorten the baking time a bit so watch your thermometer. We have a Dacor 30 inch electric convection oven and that affects baking time also. The First Wife bakes up to 50 dozen cookies a week for our customers in our waiting area (we call her the "Corporate Chef"). She could bake six sheets at a time if she had more hands. ( perhaps the second wife...naaa...)

GLORIA'S CARROT CASSEROLE
Cook 2 pounds sliced carrots until tender (4-5 cups).
Stir together:
1 can cream of celery soup
½ cup grated sharp cheese
½ teaspoon salt
Saute l small onion in 3 tablespoons butter. Stir into soup mix.
Put all ingredients into a 2 quart greased casserole. Cover with ¾ cup herb dry stuffing mix (crush with rolling pin).
Pour l/2 cup melted butter over top (could skip this if you choose).
Bake 20 minutes, uncovered, in a 350 degree oven
NOTE: I always name the recipe after the person who gave it to me.

Enough butter and cheese could make this thing work - thank you very much.

Annudder Carrot Recipe
Slice carrots across as in quarter or dime size(depending on the size of carrots). Cook until tender.
Mircrowave 1 lb. bacon until crisp, crumble.
2 Cans Condensed Tomato Soup (no liquid added)
3/4 C. Brown Sugar
add sugar to soup and microwave on high, stirring occasionally until sugar has dissolved. Add a healthy squirt of yellow mustard, and microwave until bubbly.
Drain carrots, turn into bowl or casserole dish
Pour tomato soup mixture over carrots, taking care to make sure carrots are totally coated.
Sprinkle crumbled bacon over top.
Bake half hour to 45 minutes, depending on whether or not the carrots are hot when you put them in the oven.
This can be prepared the day ahead of serving, then placed in the oven to bake with the rest of the meal.
(Apologies to those who require exact measurements)

Just getting on line. Am planning on sending in reservation tomorrow. Also have never been on a cruise. Few big boats though! Love the sailing ships. Haven't really decided which cabin etc. Will definately call tomorrow.
To: hoosiermama
Good job with the cruise - I'm looking forward to meeting everyone there.
