The Verbivores | 11/13/02 | Mistress Bella

Posted on 11/13/2002 8:52:13 AM PST by Bella_Bru

In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of word for the day. Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the word of the day in a sentence. The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day. The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-) Practice makes perfect.....post on....

insouciant\in-SOO-see-uhnt\, adjective
insouciance noun

Marked by blithe unconcern; nonchalant; as, "an elegantly insouciant manner"

Etymology: Insouciant is from the French, from in-, not + souciant, caring.

Good Morning, class!

You better check with Mrs. Claus first. I heard she held the purse strings in the family.

Of course, Santa's too masculine to own a purse But I have obviated the deleterious effects of your possible confusion by sending Mrs. Claus the following email:

Dear Mrs. Claus,

Kindly note that the lovely and talented Slip 18 of The Great State of Arizona (34th in healthiness), U.S.A. (you've heard of the U.S.A.? It's been in all the papers) has sent me copious amounts of $U.S. in a spontaneous display of her affection and respect for my intelligence, good taste, and suavity. There's probably a little lust thrown in there too, but I would advise her not to hold her breath because I don't go in for that cheap physical stuff. Anyhow, she appears to have accidentally sent this money at the same time as her annual letter to your esteemed husband, and, being female, she confused the envelopes. You are presumably in receipt of my cash, which I would appreciate your forwarding to me posthaste. I shall forward her letter to Mr. Claus likewise (Mrs. Claus, what the heck is a "Mr. Vibrator"?)

Thank you very much for your consideration. Give Rudolph a hug from his Uncle Arghie.

Your friend,
Argh

That should do it.

Lest we get too insouciant about terrorism, there are still threats which we must be ready for. Apparently the National Guard is recruiting .

They won't take me (I'm too old at 45).

I'm not lulled by Saddam's "acceptance" of the UN resolution.

"I'm afraid not, you're still a 34. But you're aces with me, kiddo!..."

(Psssst. Psst.)

(Whispers again...) Hey Arghie! Arghie!

Are you sure this would fit that 34 ... or do we need to cut out some bigger holes in it?

Maybe I'm paranoid. I was at the credit union at work this morning, and two Arab or Indian looking guys were taking a half-inch pile of Travelers Checks out of their account. They later met with a third guy and they sat talking in some foreign language about the money, as if they were going over some plan.

I didn't alert security, due to the "politically correct" climate here (we get more "diversity" mailings from corporate than we do business-related ones.)

So call me paranoid, but that doesn't mean they're not out to get us.
