Prayers lifted for Frank.

Well, today is my last day here at work. And I've got orientation at school over the lunch hour(s). It dawned on me this morning that I am free. Free to make my decisions, free to live with the consequences. Free to sink or swim. Times of change are stressful.

Did you all hear this? That a man made a threat against the President this morning and has been taken into federal custody? The HAZMAT Unit are in the process of scanning and searching a Ryder truck/van on Independence Avenue for biological/chemical weapons and/or explosives. A lot of emergency vehicles on the scene.
Of course, FNC is the only channel that I have seen in the last few minutes that is covering this.

Just saw the thread on this and went out and saw the Fox coverage. Sounds pretty serious.

BTW - The scene of this occurrence is some distance from where I am now.

Yes...Bridget Quinn just asked one of the reporters(I think it was a reporter) a question, and the person she was talking to said, "All of the sudden there is a lot noise going on, I don't know why but I am having a hard time hearing you."
The person is probably your average everyday fruitcake although the possibility is certainly there that it is something more than that. Creepy.

Same person I am asking....
We will be short two people by then...however this is my FIRST real leave for the entire year...everyone else has had their time...
The boss had previously said it was ok because the boss wasn't taking holiday time, but since then has changed her mind.
i know it's confusing.

I'm glad you are not nearby. It appears that traffic has been halted all around that area. Although I am rethinking the fruitcake part of this...perhaps it is a test to see how quickly a diversion could be made in DC. The person has to have some of his wits about him to have rented a Ryder truck knowing full well that this would cause a great amount of concern among local and federal law enforcement agencies.
Well....I am hoping that this is nothing more than some kook who wanted to talk to the President, although I cannot help but think about how the 911 hijackers, who flew several times in order to prepare themselves.

No, I hadn't heard that. Are there explosives on the truck?

The man in custody SAID he had explosives.

You're welcome Jane.
Back from successful...VERY successful Christmas shopping trip...Target and Borders! WOOHOO!!
Dog - Hope you get som help at the Dr.'s
Yes, ohio - that part of W.'s life was discussed a little, also the early & broken engagement.
And the idea that Laura and George keep each other balanced.
The author's appreciation came thru, but like Guenevere, I was surprised to hear that L. smokes sometimes....or whatever.
To: Molly Pitcher
I believe both Laura and the President were smokers years ago. Both quit, (I believe Laura did when she was pregnant) but like many ex-smokers, once in a while she will bum one from a friend.
Of course, one will never hear that Jacqueline Kennedy was a CHAIN smoker all her life.

There should be a law passed that would put a restriction on the number of times that Fox News Channel is allowed to use the phrase
"THIS IS A FOX NEWS ALERT" in any 24 hour period, because it appears to me that they think
every story is worthy of an alert. I mean, come ON, is Alan Greenspan testifying about the economy
that unusual? Isn't that part of his job? Is the President getting on/off Marine 1 or AirForce 1
that spectacular?
If they keep it up, they are going to have to have "levels" of Fox News Alerts like the color-coded Terrorist Threat levels. Before you know it, they'll have 5 different types of 'FOX NEWS ALERTS' and the most serious of stories will require FNC to use the "THIS IS A SUPER DUPER REALLY SCARY YOU'LL NEVER BELIEVE THIS SO YOU BETTER SIT DOWN FOX NEWS ALERT".
I am going to send them a copy of the story, "The Boy Who Cried Wolf" along with a suggestion that they actually read it. Sheesh.

It's very heartening that security was on it so quickly. Maybe we are more prepared than pre 9/11.

Apparently they have given the truck the all-clear.
I will be interested to know who the guy is who is in custody.
To: DJ88
The worst was the Fox News alert for the dog rescue, complete with aerial shots from a copter. I am all for rescuing dogs, but it did NOT need the Alert. I am with you on this!!
