Bush took a huge gamble by basically making the midterms a referendum on him. On this, IMO, he is dead wrong. It was the demoflops, in their zeal to avenge 2000, that sought to make it a referendum on the President. In fact, Minority Leader (oh, how it feels so good to say that!!!!!) Daschle - I've got to say it again, MINORITY LEADER Daschle - in the middle of October laid out that he intended to make the election a decision by America on the President's policies.

What you say is true, but I remember both '82 and '84....And as much as I love Reagan, he didn't go out much to campaign for the local Rs. especially in '84 when he had the popularity to do so....THIS President did it, flying in the face of tradition and the usual midterm trends.
I'd like to credit him, too.
