This was an interesting race. Bush and Rowe was hoping Davis would win. McAuliffe, the Clintons, Gore and Daschle were all hoping for a Simon win.
The race in California went exactly as I predicted. Simon has to be very very dumb. I wrote post after post saying that the Davis strategy was to drive the race to the point where only the Democrat and Republican bases voted. It may be that Davis did not get the entire Democrat base. But he got enough to win.
Simon tried to run a race in which he attacked Davis. That can not work.
Carl Rowe showed tonight the validity of his strategy. He chose moderate Republicans to run in Democrat states. Had he chosen right wing ideologs every state race would have turned out like California.
If you have read any of my posting over time you understand where Dubya and Rowe were coming from. To win in democratic states Repubicans must get Democrats to vote for them. To get Democrats to vote for you, you must say things that attract Democrats.
That is why Thune, Talent, and Coleman are going to win. What bush did was elect 3 RINO's. And we will get hundreds of conservative judges because he did.
California Republicans were so elated to nominate a conservative. ... but what they will get 4 more years of liberal government.
Bush worked for RINOs that gave him the senate. IT will get tax cuts, homeland defense, and conservative judges.
Had the republicans nominated Riordan the Republicans would have swept California. Some of those that would have been elected would have been conservative. But all, all, all, did I mention all, went down in California defeat.
Bush and Rowe have taught us how to win. I hope some more of us have learned how it is done.
I just hope that the victory of moderates is one step of the journey of incrementalism and is not the destination. So many people here seem to think that we can suddenly turn the clock back 40-50 years at one time but that just won't happen. You have to do it in little pieces ..... let everyone get used to the new "standard" and then move a bit more to the right. Today should help with that process!
