In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of “word for the day”. Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the “word of the day”; in a sentence. The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day. slue \slew\, also slew verb:
slueing, slued, slues, slewing, slewed, slewes
slue or slew; noun
- To turn (something) on an axis; rotate: slued the swivel chair around; sluing the boom of a crane.
- To turn sharply; veer: braked and slued the car around.
- To turn about an axis; pivot
- To turn or slide sideways or off course; skid
- The act of sluing
- The position to which something has slued
I know that there are many definitions of Slue/Slew; but today we are using this one.
Etymology: [Prov. E. slew to turn round, Scot. to lean or incline to a side; cf. Icel. sn?a to turn, bend.] Date: circa 1860
