is this a real phrase or is it just idiosyncratic xsfamilyspeak? it is something my dad used to say. xsteen often wonders about some of the stuff we say and whether it is in common parlance or whether it is xsfamilyspeak.

Trick with a nosebleed other than putting a cold compress on it: Use a Q-tip. Put a little Vaseline on it. Cover the entire affected area. It works. The 'bot gets nosebleeds.
I'm just sitting here waiting for phone calls from the insurance company. I've been through five long phone calls this morning. The head person is out on a family-related death emergency. She left an idiot in charge. I'm talking real idiocy here. I'm ready to tear my hair out.
I'm going to be in the loony bin soon if someone doesn't do something quickly. Thank goodness I keep a file on this stuff.

well. frank hath improved muchly - he spent all weekend backing up all over the garage/drive areas. Burnt a whole tank of gas in reverse. he sez he can do anything backwards now. we'll see.
he called me - they're just about heating it up and banging it back into shape. they're gonna have it for a couple of days so they can strip and repaint the whole thing - that way the paint matches. they're grinding it down smooth.

First off, camle, I'm sorry about Gus. He was really a good guy. Frank sounds great, too.
FWIW, I can't back a car into the garage to save my soul. It's pretty embarrassing. I call Cyber from my cell phone while getting close to the house. He then comes out to back my car into the garage when I'm overloaded with stuff.
Yesterday morning while driving Cyber to Lowe's (a hardware store), I had the car in the wrong gear, and almost took out the garage.
If I've posted this more than once it's because FR is down again, and I'm not getting through. Sorry in advance.

don't fret about gus none, he can use the front door now. he dropped by last weekend, sez he's doing well. I offerred to let him and his wife go on the motor vessel when it left for winter quarters in the bahamas, and he declines. he wishes he hadn't.
captain smith is mad at me because i almost sacked his extravegant @$$. found out that he was spec-ing out the new motor vessel and was giving himself a better cabin than me! by the time I was done with him, he was grateful I didn't put him in the engine room (enginner objected). I let him keep his paneling, but the gold plated private bath was out. his cabion is now much more navy like in archetecture, if you get my drift.
if ship's captins were a tad easier to find, i'd get me a new one in a heartbeat. as it is, i have some USCG contacts on the lookout.

Miss Strom, although not very substantive and actually not a word for the day
these may help in the writing styles that the class uses.
