Exactly. I'm so damn sick of the GOP(especially the national level) acting like a bunch of p***ies. John Engler understood this, and played on the dems level.

There are three major things that affect campaigns.
1. Numbers game. A certain population is dem or GOP. This is the handicap that the other party needs to overcome. For example, Dems have trouble in Nebraska, and the GOP has trouble in Rhode Island.
2. Campaign organization. This was Gore's ace in the hole in 2000. Organized campaigns win. Campaigns in disarray lose.(Taylor)
3. Work ethic. Who works harderst and smartest usually wins. That means hitting below the belt. That means working 24/7. Engler was a master here.

I was just reading about the sniper's calls to the authorities. Now I can't get out of my mind the image of this creep calling up the cops, getting lost in their voice mail directory, getting more and more irritated by the bureaucracy he's running up against...probably yelling to some woman who is hanging up on him, "What's the matter, are you people crazy or something???"...

...At which point, I begin to feel very weary with the world. They have to find this guy fast, things have gotten way too weird way too quickly.

Thats my point. The only ones with the B@!!s to run nasty, hard hitting ads are all on the ohter side.

If it were me, I would compile a dossier on every member of congress, filled with scandalous quotes before I ran Ads like that, and when questioned by the press about the propriety of such ads, I would start trotting out smears from the left.

The game of politics used to at least be Polite Up front, and dirty in the back, a defacto set of Marquis of Queensbury rules. If both sides dont adhere to them, then no side can. That is the common sense that the Right in this country is lacking.
