TED McGINLEY...
Jump the Shark's Patron Saint

Ted is the patron saint of shark jumping. Chances are that if Ted is anywhere near your cast, consider the show on the downward spiral. That's not to take away from Ted's fine acting skills. Consensus here enjoys Ted more on the big screen (Revenge of the Nerds) than on our sets. Then again, we wouldn't have a patron saint...thanks Ted!

An overwhelming majority of "Never Jumped" votes is required for safe passage here. And you've got to have more than a handful of total votes as well. We present the few, the proud...

Oh, dear friend, you may disagree and I honor your disagreement.

However, I do want to clarify my position - If we are going to have a dept of Homeland Security, then I agree w/the President that his hands can't be tied in needing to hire, fire, and move folks into position. That said, I agree with Kate O'Beirne, that a dept of Homeland Security would do little to improve our current situation.

I hate adding more dead layers to government, and I think a dept of Homeland Security will do that simply beccause many Congresscritters will refuse to give up their control and oversight of various integral parts without first laying on more oversight layers which do nothing but give them something to do.

If oversight worked, we wouldn't have had the total injustice done to us by the Dept of State re: their approval of the 15 out of 19 visas for the Sept 11th terrorists.

IMHO, Bush needs to cut the fat out of govt. Then he needs to hold those in State accountable - at the supervisor level, for criminal liability re: letting the Sept 11th terrorists into this country. That's right "CRIMINAL LIABILITY." They caused many deaths and should be held accountable. PERIOD.

That would not only start to avenge/judiciously address those deaths on Sept 11th, and put the State Dept on notice that it had better realize the consequences of its actions. There is a terrible strain of disease in State that has perpetuated the notion that we should let anyone and everyone in - it's past time we held those individuals accountable for such an insane policy. That policy cost us 3,0000 lives on Sept 11th. One of those lives meant a lot to me - Barbara Olson. I want change. I want accountability. I want justice.

Even better stated than before - like gun control, immigration, and any other number of problems - all the freaking laws are already on the books, all the agencies known to man are getting paid to do the job - but it's not getting done. Many of us are sick to death of giving up 50%+ of our money to live like this.

Where's the accountability?

I would not have a paycheck if I were such a screw-up as our Congress and our federal employees...there's no lodwick union to save my bacon from the fire.

If I screw-up, I pay...if those dickheads screw-up I still pay - what is wrong with this picture?

Oh, and I do know about significant figures - sorry about the mis-stated number of deaths on September 11th -- I meant to say 3,000. Nonetheless, you all get my point.

One of my primary interests is taking back control of the INS. I think a Homeland Security Dept could be the beginning of that happening.

I agree and disagree with you. Like IG said I think this HLS would help with problems like those in the INS. And no, we don't need anymore government. So how do we address these problems? As long as we allow these agencies to continue with their SOP things will go slowly. My hope is with the new agency is a fresh start.

But I'm talking out of my ear because I'm sure there's much I don't know, nor understand. I put much trust in our president, if he says doing it this particular way is a good thing I believe him.

But like you I'm peeved that people who should have been doing their jobs have so far gone uninvestigated. I'm sure it's a difficult balancing act, getting things turned around to track, arrest and prosecute terrorists all over the world and changing things in all the different agencies and finding out who's responsible for the bungles that lead up to 9/11. It makes my head spin.

I am grateful that smart people like you are keeping an eye on it though. Just goes to prove that it does matter who our president is!

Good morning all!

Gag,,, I was greeted this morning by the Toon on NBC crowing about how he's being inducted into the Black Hall of Fame (or whatever it is).

What luck I had nothing in my stomach at the time!

bent at the Arkansas BHOF:

"I owe you way more than you owe me," Clinton told the audience of 850 people, who gave him a thunderous, standing ovation.

"You have looked beyond the color of my skin to the truth of my heart."

Rodney Slater, a fellow Arkansan who served as Clinton's transportation secretary and was one of many blacks Clinton appointed to higher office, said some have wondered if Clinton was just a white politician trying to get the black vote.

"President Clinton is here tonight not because he needs your vote but because he has always wanted our love and wanted to share his love with us," Slater said. "It is not about the skin. It is about the spirit and the soul of this soul brother."

Gag me with a spoon.

Morning Gran -

The virtual dishwasher I guess.

I just found out we may be waiting for a freeze to get the corn out of the fields - not perfect, but not unheard of either. Hoping all your crops are in by now.

The Bill Cosby Show when they named their twin grandchildren Nelson and Winnie (after Mandella).

Thankfully I had stopped watching the Cosby before that but had I not that would have surely done it.

Good Lord how can these seemingly smart people be so dense?!

Crop Report: Fields here are completed. Moved the equipment East to each of the Son's farms. One place left to conquer. Yields are slightly above average, compared to 5 miles North of us where they got rain and have a bin buster.

There is some custom cutting to do when we finish our own. Hubby will leave for Colorado's 4th elk season on the 7th,,, come he!! or high water.

I think Dowd is secretly in love with President Bush and is crushed that she can't have him. She's one of those feminazis that really loves strong men but can't admit it because of her friends and associates. So she has to constantly convince herself that he's really a cad by writing these ridiculous columns.

It's sad, really.

I hadn't seen much of the Cosby show because I was in college, and frankly, no one watches TV in college.

I finally saw the show when it was in reruns and I thought that it was stupid, boring, and racist.

My two sense.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The U.S. Supreme Court (news - web sites) rejected on Tuesday an appeal by Maria Hsia, a Democratic fund-raiser convicted of hiding more than $100,000 in illegal contributions to the 1996 Clinton-Gore re-election effort and other campaigns.

Without comment, the justices let stand a federal appeals court ruling that upheld the conviction of Hsia, a Los Angeles-based immigration consultant, who was sentenced to three years probation, 250 hours of community service and a $5,000 fine.

Hsia arranged a visit on April 29, 1996, by Vice President Al Gore (news - web sites) to the Hsi Lai Temple, the largest Buddhist temple in the United States, near Los Angeles. Gore attended the event, but said he did not know it was for fund raising.

She was convicted on five felony counts for causing false statements to be filed with federal regulators about money she raised from the temple and others for Democratic candidates.

Prosecutors said the $109,000 in illegal contributions went to the Clinton-Gore re-election effort, the Democratic Party and the campaign of Rep. Patrick Kennedy, a Rhode Island Democrat.

In appealing to the Supreme Court, Hsia's lawyers argued that a prosecution for causing political committees to submit false statements to the Federal Election Commission (news - web sites) requires proof that the defendant knew her conduct was unlawful.

Hsia's lawyers also challenged the trial judge's instruction to the jury that the government did not have to prove that Hsia knew of the specific reporting requirements or the Federal Election Commission's prohibitions.

In refusing to hear the case, the high court sided with the U.S. Justice Department (news - web sites), which argued that review of the narrow legal issue presented in Hsia's appeal was not justified.

The only thing that I enjoyed was Cosby's view on parenthood. Now that I think about it, that show finally left my radar when I watched some of that spin off that the one daughter had. Talk about stupid, boring and racist! That really clued me into what was going on with the Cosby clan and I found something new to occupy that 30 minutes of my time.

Former President Bill Clinton is introduced during the 10th Anniversary of the Arkansas Black Hall of Fame dinner, Saturday, Oct. 19, 2002, in Little Rock, Ark. Those "other five individuals" must be thilled to pieces that the Toon was included with them for this induction. How wonderful it must be to work hard for your community and then be recognized as "other five individuals" in news reports because of our first black president.

Which reminds me, how will the first actual black person to be president feel about being the second black president? But they can't say a word because then they'll be Uncle Toms.

Here's a link to Kate O'Beirne's article: http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/chat/771117/posts?page=86#86

Until I read it, I agreed we needed to put the homeland security oriented agencies under on singular umbrella. After reading it, I think the implementation will be impossible due to congressional weenies who won't let go and have already changed the silk purse W sent to them into a sow's ear. And they still can't agree to pass it. Do take the time to read Kate's article - it's a good one.

If you missed Colin Powell's speech you missed a good one. Before he got to the serious stuff he killed with some comic relief! Who knew Powell was such a cut up?!
