We just got back from talking to a loan officer at our bank about getting pre-approved for a home loan.

Don't forget, however, pre-approval is nothing more than the banks willingness to put you through the rest of the meat-grinder. You didn't hit any of the very basic trip wires, so you have entered the maze ready to look for the cheese.
