In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of word for the day. Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the word of the day; in a sentence. The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day. The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-) Practice makes perfect.....post on....
stentorian \sten-TOR-ee-un\, adjective:
1. Extremely loud; powerful; as, a stentorian voice.
2. Of or pertaining to a stentor; extremely loud; powerful; as, a stentorian voice; stentorian lungs.
3. Use of the voice.
Around his family, Sergeant Charles Mingus Sr. was easily angered and often violent and closemouthed the rest of the time, except when he gave orders in a stentorian voice that carried the assumption of command.
--Gene Santoro, Myself When I Am Real: The Life and Music of Charles Mingus
Etymology: Stentorian comes from Stentor, a Greek herald in the Trojan War. According to Homer's Iliad, his voice was as loud as that of fifty men combined. Date: 1605

While stentorian Dems complain
Bush's economy causes pain
Rangel won't help us
Instead he will just cuss
And continue to sit on his brain.

Can't you just hear Queen Sheila's raucous stentorian tones as she entered this
affair an hour late, and approaching the Thai queen, while she was eating, no less.

"Funny that now these same people want US to surrender to terrorists in the name of international socialism."
Some grow wiser with age.....others more self-absorbed. Perhaps a serious terrorist incident on their soil would enable them to look at the issue of terrorism more objectively.......then again I've lost all hope for the French.

I find it oddly comforting that, no matter how dark, tragic, and terrifying a situation may be,
the stentorian Geraldo Rivera can always be counted on to provide comic relief.
I just came upon that "FR's Finest" thread. Now, you all try not to let sudden fame go to your heads, OK?
