The nation's security chief explained that he had yet to unearth any hard evidence that the killer has ties to al-Qaeda or any other terrorist group, and stressed that "you don't want to draw conclusions prematurely."

That is.. unless you think the killer is a white man trained by the military... happens to be a hunter AND a Christian..

Sheesh...talk about profiling.

Molly, here's a site http://www.atkinsloser.homestead.com/with some low carb recipes. I haven't checked it out thoroughly. Seems as though there is a nice variety.

Now it's on the AP wire:

Terrorism a Possibility Behind Shootings

But ATRW was discussing this possibility a week ago. ;)

Chambliss said people's reaction to the sniper is "completely understandable" but still overblown. "People are used to lightning striking and they don't get scared every time it rains -- and they're much more likely to be hit by lightning than they are to be shot by the sniper," he said.

These words upset me. Overall the last statement may be true, but how about the lightning statics since the beginning of October in the Va, DC, Maryland area.

Faulty logic in that statement, lysie. We know how to avoid being struck by lightning. Very few people would go stand on a golf course in a lightning storm.

Similarly, I think quite a few people avoid gassing up in places that are likely spots.

I thought the AP wire story was trying extremely hard to defend Al Qa'eda without saying that was what they were up to.

There were numerous references to the notion that our sniper hasn't made any demands, and should not therefore be considered a terrorist - and they use many "experts" to back up this notion.

They, however, forget one simple fact--

WE ARE AT WAR WITH AL QA'EDA - and Al Qa'eda could very well use stealth to mask their activities in persuit of their objectives.

But to make them happy - Al Qa'eda has, in the larger sense, already presented their demands - their war aims, if you will: the US must withdrawl from the mid-east, and cut off all support for Israel.

The problem is they don't get it - Al Qa'eda wishes to operate more as a state than as the traditional terrorist organization. And, of course, the terrorists who slammed into the Twin Towers or the Pentagon didn't leave any note or demands, or even accept responsibility - none of that. It wasn't until much later that The Evil One said, yep, we did it.

The problem is they don't get it....

And why don't they get it? Is it because if they did get it..it would give the impression they were supporting the Bush administration? *gasp* These people are so transparent. It's sickening.

As eyewitness accounts emerged yesterday describing the Beltway sniper as Mid-Eastern in appearance, Homeland Security Czar Tom Ridge revealed that the White House suspects the deadly attacks could be part of the recent wave of global terrorism.

Eh? Domestic terrorism, maybe. Al Qaeda, I'd have to doubt.
I don't think he's gonna end up being Mid-Eastern either. And I also think he'll be caught this week. He's basically throwing himself out there now, what with the jumping out of his van to take the shot at that unfortunate FBI worker.

Hopefully, he won't have to stand trial, and will be "shot attempting to escape" rather than arrested.

Al Qaeda, I'd have to doubt.

From the Al Qa'eda Training Manual:

Missions Required of the Military Organization:

***********

3. Assassinating enemy personnel as well as foreign tourists. [Emphasis added.]

I wouldn't so quickly rule it out.

Also, consider that he has been thus far, extremely successful in alluding the authorities, which then promotes a distrust/lack of confidence/questioning thereof, of our "government" and her "officials" which is one of the three pronged attack methods (financial, defense forces, people questioning government's ability).

If there were legitimate evidence that he -knew- his latest victim was FBI, I'd consider the allegation. But so far, I think it's too much of a conjecture, and seems too tinfoilish for my blood.

Gah, Calculus class time :(

ImClone founder will plead guilty to illegal insider trading.

[Well, Martha – it may not be a good week after all, what do you think?]

I think Martha is in the clear. Waksal plead guilty to insider trading. He claims he told his father and daughter to sell but did not tell them why. He will not admit telling Martha anything at all. They would have to prove that Waksal told them. They have no proof. Waksal has zero reason to rat on anyone else. It is impossible to prove that he told anyone anything that makes the other peoples acts illegal. There is zero proof he told Martha anything.

There is proof that a Merril Lynch assistant broker called Martha first. She did not call him. He told her to sell. She did. If they take Martha to court she will put Merril Lynch and the SEC on trial. They will not want that.

There is evidence that the assistant Broker from Merrill Lynch called Martha and told her the FDA had rejected the drug and advised her to sell. She acted on the information of her broker and that is not an insider trade. They could get her for lying to a federal officer. But a conviction on that is not likely. Not in New York.

Putting someone in jail for selling stock when her broker tells her to do so, is not something that will help a rally on wall street.

What is not a crime and should be is a brokerage firm selling stock that it knows to be worthless. Merrill Lynch sold the WakSal families ImClone stock for millions of dollars. The Merril Lynch agent knew it was worthless stock and he knew it involved insider trading. Merril Lynch, the prosecuter, and the SEC see nothing wrong with brokerage firms such as Merril Lynch making such a sale. It is legal for the broker to rip off the buyers and brokerage firm has no responsiblity at all. It is legal for a brokerage firm to make illegal trades.

Could a drug store sell you a bad drug that it knew was bad.... because the drug maker said to sell it? Would that be OK? Then why is it legal for a brokerage firm to do the same thing?

Can you imagine what would happen to a used car dealer that sold worthless cars it knew to be worthless for millions of dollars?

But a wall street brokerage firm can legally conduct trades it knows are illegal insider trades. It can conduct these trades when it knows the stock it is trading is worthless.

It takes a broker to sell stock. If a brokers went to prision and brokerage firms were put out of business for selling stock they knew to be an insider trade or worthless, there would be no insider trades of worthless stock sold.

If there were legitimate evidence that he -knew- his latest victim was FBI, I'd consider the allegation.

Doesn't need to know his target was FBI - merely needs to know his target is on American soil. We're all enemy - that's the point.
