A man puts packing hooks through his cheek in Phuket province, 690 kilometers (428 miles) southwest of Bangkok, Thailand, to celebrate the annual Vegetarian Festival Saturday, Oct. 12, 2002. Every year around early October devout Buddhists in the overseas Chinese community celebrate the nine-day festival, during which some perform acts of self-mortification including body-piercing, although such acts are not part of mainstream Buddhist faith.

I hope they've got a "catch and release" policy in Thailand!

Beginning stages of becoming a "Hook Line & Sinker Democrat".

After this initiation, they are ready to swallow anything.

Why is this moved to chat, when it should be in BREAKING.

It's a diversity thing, right?

I just touch my face with a safety razor and I bleed for minutes. No blood in any of the pictures? The one with the swords is most easy to see the trick. Push two halves of sword sets against the cheeks and you got the arrow through the head trick. The first picture is a little more artful. The charlatan has a mouth piece holding the hooks to his mouth and pushing against his cheek while the grip end of the hooks are held in hand with as though pulling on the cheek.

I was wondering why there was no blood but I wouldn't have figured out their trick. Fakirs!

A man puts packing hooks through his cheek in Phuket province...

Friend: "Hey dude, I have an idea - jam this steel object through your face."

Dude: "Phuket, hand it over."
