In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of word for the day. Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the word of the day; in a sentence. The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day. The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-) Practice makes perfect.....post on....
atrabilious\at-ruh-BIL-yuhs\, adjective:
1. 1. Melancholic; gloomy.
2. Irritable; ill-natured; peevish.
Etymology: Atrabilious is from Latin atra bilis, black (atra) bile (bilis). It is a translation of Greek melankholia (see melancholy), from melan-, black + khole, bile. According to ancient physiological theory, there are four principal humors (fluids) in the body: phlegm, blood, choler ("yellow bile"), and black bile. As any one of these predominates it is supposed to determine the temper of the mind and body. Thus an individual with a preponderance of black bile in his system would be atrabilious (or melancholic) by nature.

i need a HAUNTED HOUSE! xsboy's bday is at the end of the month and he doesn't want to do the laser tag as he has the past 2 years. i think haunted houses are unbelievably cool, and i think that would be a great party event for 11 yo boys.
there was an awesome one, when i was in college. some charity had converted an abandoned mansion in Shadyside into a haunted house. i have the greatest memories of that. i like to be scared til i practically pee my pants!
i heard an ad for a Haunted Forest on the radio, but it is up in Darnestown, MD, which is too far to go for this.

The atrabilious junior Senator* from New York .... Oh, never mind. What's the point?

[* "B!tch" is often more appropriate]

Can't help you in VA. Haunted Cornfield mazes are big up here. There's one in
Leesburg, VA.
To: CholeraJoe
Did you ever make fake boogers out of rubber cement? Seems like a lot of work when REAL boogers are so cheap and plentiful.....
To: TheGrimReaper
But the supply is intermittent. Rubber cement is reliable, scalable and always available.
To: CholeraJoe
Yes, but can you flick them all the way across the room, or do they tend to stick to your fingers? (Moreso than the real thing, that is)
To: TheGrimReaper
If you wait long enough to let the rubber cement cure you can zing one pretty far.
To: CholeraJoe; TheGrimReaper
after this repartee, you two are going to be hard pressed to convince me that you are not really 2 eleven year old boys....

hey, thanks for the link, Leesburg is do-able. the hockey team all lives out in Ashburn, except for us, so further out that way is better, actually.
