In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of word for the day. Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the word of the day; in a sentence. The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day. The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-) Practice makes perfect.....post on....
raffish \RAF-ish,or RAYF-ish\, adjective:
raffishly; adverb
raffishness; noun
1. Characterized by or suggestive of flashy vulgarity, crudeness, or rowdiness; tawdry.
2. Marked by a carefree unconventionality or disreputableness; rakish.
3. Resembling, or having the character of, raff, or a raff; worthless; low.
4. Marked by smartness in dress and manners
We are told about Bacon's taste for raffish, lower-class lovers, his penchant for gambling and his almost complete disregard for money.
--Michiko Kakutani, "Portrait of a Portraitist Of a Century's Horrors," review of Francis Bacon: His Life and Violent Times, by Andrew Sinclair, New York Times,, December 14, 1993
[Probably from dialectal raff, rubbish, from Middle English raf, perhaps of Scandinavian origin.]. Date: 1801

Yeah, I wore on of those yesterday after we.... ummmmm
went 'panning for gold.' So today's topics seem to be flannel, Britney's hand-me-downs, and autumn chill?

Love those hats!
I didn't know raffia was bamboo. Here's a photo of the raffia grass.

Flannel sheets in the winter are the best. I don't know if they are good for heat, though. Do you have an ideas on that?

I hope this
raffish character is coughing up some good info. Twenty years is not NEARLY enough for what he did. Mike Spann's life is worth more than 20 years in prison for this little fruit.

No, it was not the mushrooms on the pizza. It was a gif I brought in. It is pretty frightening, though, isn't it?
We might have to save that gif for the presidential election of 2004. I wonder if we could somehow get Hitlary's face in there.

Well, the nice thing about them is if it suddenly gets hot, the flannel is better at keeping you comfortable(talking about a bottom sheet) if you dont have the air on.
I sleep with a blanket 12 mos a year, though when hot, I will just drape it around a leg and over my tummy. I sleep much better with something there, Heck, in order to nap on the Bus home, i put my bag there and ...poof....out i go.
