Tell Ed & Tom to pay up! The blackmailer thought they would.

And the more Ed opens his mouth, the more obvious he is. And I'll betcha Tom knows, too, as well as the police & the LDS.

I'm sorry lakey but this statement of yours is ridiculous. It’s back to the Church and the police in a conspiracy. Where is your evidence of this? I read the article in the Tribune and I saw not even one hint of Ed trying to squirm out of anything. What I have seen is you and others who think like you work themselves up into a frenzy over nothing.

No, it's not ridiculous, sandude. There's a cover-up & that's obvious.

Do ya think that maybe the NE was trying to limit their liability?

Not obvious to me, the press, the honest members of LE.

Thanks for being nice about it, anyway. Check it out on google, though: no defamation action for someone who is dead!

Here--will Minnesota do? There's going to be both federal and state stuff. Also remember there is criminal and civil. You were talking about a personal injury (civil) suit, I recall.

http://216.239.53.100/search?q=cache:o4b4dIvTji8C:www.weblocator.com/attorney/mn/law/artentspo.html+defamation+dead+person+United+States&hl=en&ie=UTF-8

There would be other defenses to the suit you proposed. For example, truth of the statement is a defense. If the statement is clearly an opinion, then it's not made as a statement of fact--so, no defamation.

Not hardly. Not when the grocers and others admitted they had pulled the magazine from the counters on order from corporate headquarters. They said they would only be available for sale if anyone specifically asked to buy one.

In fact one article had to audicity to proclaim it was being done so people who didn't want to see it wouldn't be traumatized!

Well, now, how 'bout "Maybe I'll hold you hostage."?

I've felt for sometime that this was a kidnapping for ransom that just didn't work out for the perp. My very first thoughts on the case were that Ed owed money to some nasty characters and that they were holding Elizabeth until he made good on his loans. I gave up on that idea after the FBI found no evidence supporting it. If Ed had an influx of money into his business that could not be explained then that would have raised all kinds of red flags. I'm sure that this was one of the first areas that the FBI looked into. The Feds are very good at checking on people’s money. Once again, no smoke, no fire.

Why do you think the orders came from corporate headquaters?

Yes there is a shred of evidence: his own confession. Are you saying that never happened?

I believe he was in the bedroom of Lin Lee. It wouldn't have been his first burglary. He'd been working in there that very day.

We can do a sort of mock trial of this incident, Jandji, but it would be a lot of effort for...what? We don't even know what evidence they were planning to present at his trial. Now the whole thing is aborted.

Because it so stated in a July article in the SLC Trib.

No, I didn't see that. Thanks. I have been reading some of the released transcripts, though. Have you seen those? Westerfield was a creepy guy long before he did this, according to what's in the transcripts.

I wonder what finally changed him into a killer. (Or did the change occur earlier than we think? Who knows?)

You misunderstood my question. Why do you think that the suits made this decision?
