The Verbivores | 9/25/02 | Mistress Bella and Miss Rika

Posted on 09/25/2002 6:45:01 AM PDT by Bella_Bru

In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of “word for the day”. Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the “word of the day”; in a sentence. The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day. The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-) Practice makes perfect.....post on....

assiduous \uh-SIJ-oo-us\, adjective:

1. 1. Constant in application or attention; devoted; attentive; unremitting.
2. Performed with constant diligence or attention; unremitting; persistent; as, assiduous labor.

"I can scarcely find time to write you even a Love Letter," Samuel Adams, an assiduous committeeman, wrote his wife in early 1776.
--Pauline Maier, American Scripture: Making the Declaration of Independence

Etymology: Assiduous is from Latin assiduus, constantly sitting near, hence diligent, persistent, from assidere, to attend to, from ad-, to + sedere, to sit.

Al Gore, after an assiduous application of ample lipstick, proves once again he is not presidential material.

Good Morning All,

"We know it was you from this photo copy of your butt," said Tom assiduously.

Saddam Hussein, a wicked cuss,
No help from Saudi, so U.S.,
Alone takes him out.
There's really no doubt,
Dubya proves he's assiduous.

Homework:

Her TV show for some reason (see below) is a good example of the curren/classic Roman/American cultural decline in morals and values. When do we begin to kill people on AMerican Gladiator?

..... Then again, some may consider her assisdelicious.

Or, as they say a little further south:
¡Mantengan la fe, mis amigos! ¡Somos los salvadores de la Republica! ¡Ahora y siempre!

Schroeder was quite assiduous
In blaming the US, perfidious.
Now that he's won
He's under the gun
And all his stances seem ridiculous.

Top 30?

For those of us who have been assiduously following the insidious problem of vote fraud, a story like this just confirms my worst suspicions that little or nothing has been done to ensure honest elections since Bush oh-so-nearly got the Presidency stolen from him in 2000. (I will maintain to my dying day that he won the legitimate popular vote!) There are few people who deserve to be tossed out of public life more than Janet Reno, but I suspect she's right about one thing--she got swindled. And this was just the Democrats' warm-up act for what they're planning to pull against Jeb in the general election. In short, meet the new Florida--same as the old Florida. Pretty depressing.

That was a great link, white rose.

FL had almost a year and a half to get their voting machines/computers working correctly, and they failed miserably. It's the dangling and pregnant chads all over again.

The assiduous insistence of the nanny statists and do-gooders is starting to go from ridiculous to utterly absurd. I truly think many of these folks should be in rubber rooms.

we've got Bloominidiot in NYC going after private clubs in his smoke ban quest, Veterans clubs about to close because of smoking bans in Weymouth, Mass, Mom & Pop corner shops losing money because of insidious tax hikes on cigarettes. But are the antis happy -NOOOOOOOOOOOO - they want it ALL:

LAS VEGAS! Casino profits could go up in (no) smoke

Is the whole world going NUTS!!!!!!!!!!

Vegas already saw profits level off a bit when they started making is "family friendly". I'll bet smokers spend way more in their casinos than non-smokers.

BTW, A+.
