For the record, I am neutral at this point on taking military action against Iraq. I'm not opposed to it on principle, but I'm not completely convinced yet either (not that my thoughts on the matter will make a whit of difference).
That being said, I think what many of the ardent Bush supporters fail to realize is that this forum was built through the efforts of people who opposed Clinton, and who specifically opposed his interventionist foreign exploits in places like Serbia. Many of the old-time freepers are essentially isolationists, and don't cotton to the U.S. being the world policeman.
Therefore I am not at all surprised that many of these same people oppose what the administration is proposing to do. You are way off base in calling most of these people "democrats" or "commies" or "leftists". Rather, they are paleo-conservatives. It is unreasonable to expect such people to slough off their political and philosophical beliefs simply because the man in the White House happens to have an (R) after his name.

That is correct and that is why they are not subject to reason on the issue. There comes a point in time that all the arguments pro and con have been argued so many times with no movement on either side that it becomes crystal clear that to continue is a waste of time. You say you are not persuaded and I would say that if you were not convinced by now you would never be. Both Bush and Blair have made their cases to their respective governments and to the UN. That phase is over; the next steps are congressional resolution and possibly a UN resolution. The die is cast.
Excellent assessment. The best one I have seen.
We, (party loyalist) do not mind debating these points, but tempers are frayed and will get worse as the election draws near. We have been attacked and debased for far too long. This is point #1.
Point #2 is that President Bush is OUR president and if he takes us to war with Iraq I don't want to see a bunch of dissenters throwing rocks at him on this forum. I guarantee you I will puke all over the place. I went through that in 69 and I'm not gonna take it anymore.
All these fears! All this hand wringing! All these claims that the G-men are going to spy on everyone! I have heard it all before!
If it takes a few fives to get the constitutionalists to listen to what they are saying and the cause and effect of dissent in time of war, I am willing to high five a few folks to get their attention.
The reaction has been amazing.
