THAT is fantastic, WR! you are the best on that issue, from your standing O on the Cervantes quote last week on the construction girlie thread, to this great story! kudos to you!

I could use the extra credit.

had xskids known you were serving that, they would have asked to go to your house last night for dinner!
they have outgrown a few of their more extreme culinary prejudices, i remember them being up at xsgrandpa's house once and he got them the Velveeta shells and sauce instead of the Kraft crap that they preferred, and xsboy was asking for the STRAIGHT LINE MACARONI (granted he was pretty little then!)

morning, gabz...if that makes you a bad mommy, then i know very few good ones.
it's unamerican for a kid not to have packaged mac&cheese and mcdonald's, isn't it? ;)
To: christine; Gabz
i am a worse mommy. they have come out with EASYMAC which is microwavable and they can make it themselves, no boiling water, etc. Xsteen turns her nose up at it but the other 2 swear by it.

Because New Yorkers are SOOOO brogdingnagian in their waistlines, NY gov is mandating
diets for the porcine.... Does he have some kind of gig going with Jenny Craig, so that all NYers will now have to join Jenny or WW for tax credits?

Believe me, they would have been more than welcome. When I make it from scratch I make ALOT of it. There is probably enough left for 4 more dinners for the 3 of us.
Even though it was a last minute decision, it has long term benefits - I plan on going out and getting VERY drunk tomorrow, so will be in no mood for cooking dinner - this way it's already done and I can be guilt free as I party for my birthday.
I am very fortunate that I do not have picky eaters in this household. there are very few things that Jax won't eat, so if she says she doesn't like something, I take her word for it.

why thank you, Christine, that's a very nice thing to say.
I admit to my fair share of feeding her packaged mac and cheese and mcdonald's, although a hapy meal is usually done only as a treat. Not for any other reason than I think that Mickey's D's is WAY over priced for what it is.

i really am not a
hard@$$ on making them eat stuff, i generally try to make at least one thing that they will eat, but make them try the other stuff. I have to say that they are all lightyears better eaters than their father. A LOT of the problem will stem from them eating junk too close to dinner time or sucking down a bunch of drink, which xsboy in particular is famous for.

Fortunately for me, she hasn't discovered the EASYMAC yet - when she does I will propbably not be able to avoid it. Heck she already knows how long to put a hotdog in the microwave. child scares me.

what a horrible situation that was. i agree she was reprehensible in what she did, but sending the kid to a foster home seems a little extreme? and what is with this irish gypsy travellers business? odd!

I understand the drinking - I sometimes have to limit how much she gets to drink with her dinner. If I were to put a quart of milk in front of her she would drink the whole thing.
When we first met, hubby swore he would never eat pot roast or meatloaf even at pistol point. well I happen to love meatloaf. One day I particularly had a hankering for it and offered to fix something different for him, but he was a good sport and said he would eat the meatloaf.
Now he asks for meatloaf. Apparently his mothers idea of meetloaf was gound meat cooked to deah with ketchup poured over the top. And pot roast was meat and vegetables boiled until there was no flavor left. what a deprived childhood he had.
And yes, tomorrow is my b'day. Fortunatly the NASCAR fans have finally left town and I will be able to get a seat at the bar.

my mother's meatloaf and chili both were not good, but when i had it elsewhere i discovered i liked them both. i have to say that i learned most of my cooking skills from my best friend in law school. she is an excellent cook. a group of us used to have homemade pasta and sauces parties etc.
my friend's husband is SOOOOO spoiled that when she goes out of town, she makes and freezes him entire meals of things like lobster newburg etc. complete down to the desserts. She is the one who taught me how to make tiramisu, my all time fave dessert.
