London kicks off the international fashion circuit this season instead of New York which switched dates rather than clash with the anniversary of the September 11 terrorist attacks.

Forty-four catwalk shows are planned in addition to an exhibition of clothes and accessories from 130 designers.

Liz Smith takes a not so subtle swipe at our foreign policy, and our President:

'MISGOVERNMENT IS of four kinds, often in combination. They are: (1) tyranny or oppression, of which history provides so many well-known examples that they do not need citing; (2) excessive ambition, such as Athens' attempted conquest of Sicily in the Peloponnesian war . . . Phillip II's of England via the Armada . . . Germany's twice-attempted rule of Europe by a self-conceived master race . . . Japan's bid for an empire of Asia; (3) incompetence or decadence, as in the case of the late Roman empire, the last Romanovs and the last imperial dynasty of China; and finally, (4) folly or perversity."

Good morning. I've been busy running errands, and am just now catching up on the Emmys thread, even though I didn't watch any of the show, opting instead for Ken Burns' Civil War documentary. I'll do a little surfing for news, and be back tout de suite.

Gag alert, Richard Chamberlain comes to grips (ouch) with his sexuality and wants to tell us all about it:

DR. KILDARE's prescription for us is his "open heart" autobio. Due summer of '03, for spirituality buffs, Richard Chamberlain says he questioned his own self-worth, was haunted by insecurity, "began the painful process of reconciling his deepest self with his public persona" via spiritual guru J. Krishnamurti. He tells of a lifelong struggle to find happiness, come to terms with his imperfections, develop a relationship with his father and be honest about his sexual orientation. Title: "Toward Love." Publisher: Reganbooks. Cindy Adams.

Life was much simpler (and more pleasant) when people kept certain things to themselves. Too much info, Dick.

Has life outside the limelight gone to Barbra Streisand's hips? When the diva showed up at a party in L.A. recently, many guests remarked about how zaftig she looked. "She must have put on 20 pounds," a spy tells us. But one friend argues, "She's still in great shape for 60." You can bet she'll be hitting the treadmill before her performance at the Democratic fund-raiser in L.A. Sept. 29. NY Daily News

I just love the word zaftig. Here's a news flash, x42 and 97 spending some time together (for a political cause, of course):

Vaclav Havel caught up with New York friends Friday night on what he's calling his "farewell trip" to the U.S. before he steps down as president of the Czech Republic in four months. On hand for a symposium on Havel's career at the Graduate Center on E. 34th St. were ex-President Bill Clinton, Lou Reed, Toni Morrison and Caroline Kennedy Schlossberg. They all met up with Sen. Hillary Clinton at Ian Schrager's Morgan's Bar on Madison Ave. afterward.

She's a gossip columnist, or did she forget? Here she is right where she belongs.

Yeah, we know what kind of chemicals x42 loves. Hey, the Harlem Globetrotter is in Africa. Please stay, Slick!

You didn't miss anything with Miss America and I did notice that some of those girls walked like men in those swim suits and high heels. My dentist even remarked about it this morning as he was sticking me with the needle.

Regarding Melanie and her stupidity, this simple fact is what many parents don't have a clue about. Children want a parent. They want discipline. It shows them that you love them. They don't want a friend, those they have plenty of. Parents don't grow on trees and these adults just don't understand how their children look up to them for guidance.

That and too many of the Melanie ilk are just down right lazy. Horsewhipping would be too good for these low lifes.
